New Viega MegaPress and Steam Piping on Crown Gas Boiler Installed by Neighbor Handyman

- When she contracted a neighborhood handyman who she thought was also a local plumber, to replace her leaking boiler, she thought she was getting a great deal! Instead she got deceived into a poorly installed Crown steam boiler. Watch how we cut out and replace the steam piping, including installing a drop header, equalizer, Hartford Loop and flush valves on the wet return for future maintenance. For the past 18 months, the homeowner has been dealing with intensive banging and hammering sounds every time the steam heat comes up.

Really enjoyed the final results and seeing the B20 scans! Wish you had turned off the TV during the video as it was very distracting. No mention of the steam vents?
Hi, right at the end of the video when you were showing the home owner what you have done, I saw there’s water dripping down on the connection for the sweating which there’s water in the pipe, I hope you guys catch that before leaving! Keep up the good work!
I noticed the same thing. Beautiful work!
It’s still leaking to this day
Nice when the customer is impressed with the beauty of the piping. Makes the cost less painful.
Mikey Pipes = A+ QUALITY JOB !!!
Good job brother. U just got another customer for life. Beautiful work
Piping is correctly done. Nicely nice
So sweet,I like your boldness =)
After that job , you deserve a ''Crown '' Good looking piping job as usual ... Thx for posting ...
Wow this is amazing
stupendaaaa,Super ! You are so striking!
Gotta get an Evolution saw gor cutting the pipe, the Rage would be perfect! I just did a gas line and the guys that had the megapress were like blown away at the nice square clean cuts!
great leadership skills
Hi, just wanted to tell you, I like this,.It was great keep on videoing
That looks so much better and depending on the price of nat gas and how cold it is they will recover the cost in no time.
Love the micro b 20 I need to add one to my bag
I love how loud the tv-radio is
FYI milwaukee just came out with a tri-pod called the stable lok I have one in my truck! It folds flat unlike the ridgid
Brilliant
you slayed my heart
Hi, right the end of the video when you were showing the home owner, there’s water dripping down from the sweating that there’s still lots of water inside the pipe, I’m sure you guys catch that before leaving, keep up the good work!
That solder joint did not take
Good eye. I re-winded and saw the drip.
What happened to using pro-press?
When you use kroil always tap the fitting a few times it helps
Yup…
What a mess you had to work in. Nice job.
That boiler was made in my home town.
Looking forward to using Megapress on our jobs in the near future!
lockdown and we are watching this
King Of Hearts
Kroil to the rescue again! Love the press drop header! 👍👍. I see you addressed the dripping Webstone…👍. Curious if you routinely add boiler treatment to these jobs since you had everything apart?
Change the name to Mikey Drips!!!! Hahahah just effing with ya, love the vids as usual!!😁👍
Why not use a str. 90 on the hartford loop? Nice job as always 👍🏼
Remarkable
Ok Mikey Pipes I’ll give you that one. I personally go high.
Thanks for the food Mikey
You are literally god
There ya go next time you do another steam boiler see if you can get a sponsor for clear pipe 😂
on lead free brass, you really need to heat the pipe a ton to get heat deep into the fitting, the new brass just doesn't transfer nor spread the heat very well.
"Whoa"
Great content as always Mike, I've been trying to get the hotel I work for to invest on a black pipe press tool, we have a nibco press tool but not sure if they make jaws for black pipe.
Most supply houses that sell Pro Press and Mega Press stuff also rent the tools. My local supply house charges just $50.00 to rent the tool
Kool
awesome! I almost died too for a quick second
AHHHHH honey! stunning
Mega press so jealous looks good too
Some people have no idea how to pipe steam almost unbelievable.Costing home owner again!!
i noticed the one valve you had a problem soldering is leaking, check out the vid, you can see it leaking.
Really liking that Hikmicro eh mikey. Better or on par with flir? Trying to pull the trigger on one helps a lot this has your endorsement you seem to have all the good tools
I emailed them and a tech called me. I was impressed. I wanted to know the difference between the B 10 vs B-20 as there is a cost difference. The B-20 has wifi or BT so you can send the video to another device. I would never need that so the B10 does everything else the B20 does.
Nice job I don’t see any automatic damper on the stack or a barometric damper when you install a boiler aren’t these things usually done?
It’s there
@mikeypipes Maybe my eyes playing games but the flush valve seems to be leaking around the 26:40 mark roughly on the bottom solder joint but maybe it was just dust in the light idk
@@PipeDoctor perfect I figured you did soldering is such a thing of the past Especially in that situation fighting off the water press all the way
Dazzling
Turn the TV down Mikey Pipes!😂😂😂😂😂
Hart &coolie ultra vent was new technology also!🤣
I can smell that basement. 😋
Rig a couple Hartford loops and leave them at the shop.
I know your not going to do it,but that bottom return , make it 2×2×2 ,close,2" ball valve ,close,2×3/4 reducer ,3/4 close, hose.
Love the steam!!!
🍺🍺🍺🥃🥃⛳🎳
THAT'S FOR INSPECTION.
Stay safe.
Retired (werk'n)keyboard super tech. Wear your safety glasses!
Shut that freakin radio / TV off!
😂
Hey Mike I thought I saw some drips on the wet return, the second time you showed the client, did you catch that. Just seeing if it was just me.
Okay good to hear
I saw it to, thought camera was catching all the dust in the air. Beautiful job Mike and the team.
Was just going to comment that 😆
Yes it looks like a leaker
i see the solder joint of the valve is dripping at 26;40 video time
hey mike whats the purpose of the u bend coming out of the steam supply? just curious
The condensate will flow back to the boiler making steam dryer which is more desirable.
@@scotts4125 thanks for explaining!
Installers that did the original job give guys in your Trade a bad name………”Chuck in a Truck”😂
👍

I bet you a dollar to a donut that Steve lav would’ve had a big enough wrench for that bushing.
@@PipeDoctor 48”??? Get in there with a 14 or 18” bahco adjustable wrench and a cheetah bar and it’ll come right out, don’t be scared. It don’t bite. Get a bahco and toss the crescent in the junk drawer
Just between you ,me ,and you tube how long do you REALLY think those press fittings are going to last before leaking?I know,I know im an old man than cant embrace the change, I just dont see them holding up.
26:38 valve is leaking from bottom sweat connection. Mikey pipes can’t solder. Press pampered plumber
Did you fix the leak at the valve yet? Looked to me like it was dripping. Great job on the redo. Definitely made chicken salad.
That bushing was for a hose Cox, not for a return. Water was contaminated badly
Agreed
at 26:40 the valve was leaking
Great video , love the mega press , the infomercials in the back ground sucked
Name for thermal camera?
Valve @26:40 is dripping.
that radio in the background reminds me of grand theft auto. dont burn your hair with that torch.
he just burns the employees hair. 🤣🤣
poor danielson
didi miss crimping those pipes?
Hey mike just wondering why it took you so long to buy into megapress? We’re there any doubts? Also not sure if you did or didn’t but ridgid sells a megapress prep tool that reams and sands the pipe before pressing each fitting.
anyone see valve leaking ?
Future use valve …the one that had water in it was dripping. 🙁
I was looking in the comments also to see if someone else had mentioned it lol. Dripping a lot actually.
at 26:38 she's a leaker! bottom sweat joint is bad and leaking away.
Whoever piped that originally did a major hack job
I had the sub titles on again.... i think I'll ring about insurance plans.... it's a Toll Free number. 😁😁
Cut it all out and recipe it.
Whats going on at 26:40?
Leaker!
Not being a hater, shouldn’t that drop at the Hartford Loop be a st 90?
But the guy used monster tape why didn’t it work
Talk about piping in tight spaces
26.40 something leaking
I need to take this guy with me regarding steam lines I use it once or twice and that's it never again they start dripping on you in time because of the rubber fittings inside the connector they have a tendency of expanding somebody forgot to tell us about that I went right back to my soldering all blazing anytime that you have to go back to a job due to leaking is money you wasted in hours of time
Huh?
Pro press???
Mega press
Megapress on steam hope this was not in NYC 🤫 Dob no approveee..
@@PipeDoctor building dept covers that too, NYC also requires as of november 7 2022 any new piping installed for heating to be insulated. Not trolling you just making sure you dont have issues. Alot of people are using mega press for gas in NYC also been working alot of hours fixing these after they get caught. Con ed also will not turn things on with megapress on steel.
and they mean new piping not new systems. So if I repair a 5' long 6" high pressure steam line weld it xray it after nov 7th 2022 I must also insulate the 5' section. Isnt NYC great?
@@Dang638 don’t understand why they don’t like megapress, no problems here in MA
@@LumenChaser Ny is not america. Someone must not have been paid off yet. Side note I like propress on copper less than 75 psi. However I have seen two steam systems with megapress that had failed and three that have not. With that said I will weld or screw my steam.
she a leaker!!!! That purge valve solder joint didn't take. Seems still had water in it.
You did not check flue readings.
At 26:41 looks like a leaker
Thats when they get the local handyman to do the plumbing because its the cheapest price
Did anyone else catch that cockroach at 26:05 crawling on the insulation??
That was the installer.
@@Mercmad LOL 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

that radio is background noise cancer lol.
@@PipeDoctor somebody loves down there ?? Wtf

This is best , not Just nice
shut down that radio please, it``s very annoying
And blessed be His holy name please do not take the lord's name in vain
Good Lord Mike,that was just t¡ts! 🍈 🍈
the enjoyment you get from doing a great job piping is the same i get when i make a driveway, garage/basement floor or a stamp job look, you know, tits!!!! have 27yrs in concrete and i still get that good feeling when a customer is happy. especially when some weekend warrior screws up concrete and we come in and redo it and they see the difference a professional makes...awesome. i have a few aches and pains but that comes with being on earth for 48 yrs. but the satisfaction i get from doing a job to the best of my ability is worth it.
great job, mikey. if you keep making vids, ill keep watching AND learning. i recently bought a house with an old american standard gpm-5 1b-j1 and after watching plumbing vids its piped waaay wrong. like someones drunk uncle did it over the wkend back in '72. the boiler is in good condition its just the piped wrong. so after watching your vids, steve lav and miss mollys vid and other plumbears im confident i can repipe it no problem. im replacing everything from the domestic to the boiler and to the zone valves. they have the expansion tank dead ended thru 5ft of pipe on the domestic side so the hot water has to try to expand back thru the cold with the result being the relief valve dribbling. theres a water stain on the floor from the expansion dropleg to the drain so this problems been going on for decades. amazing what people will put up with. why? who knows. as soon as warm weather is here to stay and the boiler can be shut off, its getting all new copper. its gonna look TITS!!!
Kroil is too expensive,we made our own long before kroil was a thing,ATF tranny fluid,Wintergreen oil,and Terpentine! Made gallons of it for $30
