      @@PipeDoctor If I’m right do I get the Knipex pliers??? Pump head is defined as the amount of energy to overcoming the piping friction loss. A circulating pump does not lift water it circulates it in a circuit. Contact me for my shipping address to send me the my pliers.

      @@PipeDoctor At 14:44 in the video you said the pump head is determined by how much or how high you have to lift the water to the second floor totally untrue the fill valve gets the water to the second floor not the pump.

      @kurt698939 Před 3 lety +7

      @@garysmith9772 From Globalpumps.com "Simply stated: a pump’s head is the maximum height that the pump can achieve pumping against gravity. Intuitively, if a pump can produce more pressure, it can pump water higher and produce a higher head." In a sealed system the water should already have reached the maximum height and therefore the circulator's (pump) head pressure would be used to create a pressure differential and induce flow.
      Why you would have to pick one little thing out of a 30-minute video to be a smart ass about is beyond me though.

      Feet of head/ Total Head is directly correlated to how high the fluid in the pipe has to travel from it's starting point all the way to it's discharge point. Every pump comes with a pump curve chart that shows you how the pump is affected by this measurement. Once I learned about pump curves it made it easy to pick the correct pump for the job.

    Absolutely right about pipe wrench size to diameter of pipe. Also, though it's better to use a smooth jaw pipe wrench on any kind of hex fitting. Especially brass. You'll break teeth off a pipe wrench on the angle and tear up brass . I've sliced my hands up plenty feeling around fittings I can't see that well.

    The bottom expansion tank, while in the right orientation, is also plumbed directly below the air separator. The separator probably also will drop dirt out the bottom of it (low velocity flow to separate and vent air up, also will drop drop dirt below), and that dirt will end up on top of the exp tank bladder and maybe kill the bladder.

    @guytech7310 Před 3 lety

    Some comments on the install:
    1. You can buy the press-on connectors (ie Wago) at home-depot or lowes at about the same price as wire nuts. Next time you go to HD or Lowes take a look at the electrical isle where the wire nuts are located. You find press on wire connectors. For joining two wires there isn't much difference, but the press on connectors shine when you have 3 or more wires to connect, especially if they are 12 awg. Press-on connectors don't work with stranded wire.
    2. If you use zone solenoids on the Radiant heat manifold, I recommend installing a differential pressure by-pass valve to protect the circulation pump if one or more of the solenoids gets stuck. If a solenoid gets stuck it could cause the pump to fail because there is no water flow.
    3. Recommend adding a witness mark on the mixing valve so that if some bumps into the valve, they don't have to go the trouble of figuring out the correct setting again.

    I learned my repair skills while I served in the Navy as a photographer on an aircraft carrier. We were trained in equipment repair and maintenance as we had to maintain, diagnose and repair the all equipment in the photo lab while out at sea. Heaters, blower motors, pumps, motors, circuit boards, etc, we fixed everything we used.
    After I got out of the Navy, I pursued a career as a service technician in the photo industry. For over 10 years, I repaired and installed photofinishing equipment in the Metro-NY area, mostly One-Hour Photo stores... before moving over to Technical Sales. I am now a photojournalist using a different set of skills, but I still have many tools from my repair career, and I repair most of the things in my home! I've have been looking to update some them, and the Knipex channellock set would be a great start. Thank you and thanks for the great videos!

    The WAGO connectors are as much of a time and money saver as press fittings over threaded pipe. They provide a much more relaible connection than wire nuts when you are standin on a ladder streched out as far as you can reach with dirt ,dust and water dropping in your eyes. But the coolest thing is when you are testing something you just lift the lever and change the wire to a diffent location. Work on 12- 24 guage stranded or soild wire.

    Oh man, it's Knipex giveaway day. I've been eyeing these for a long time, probably have to buy a set at this point if I don't win. I have a rusted channel-lock and a crescent covered in pipe dope. Keep up the good work Saint Mike!

    Cool beans! Thanks for the video. Is your return from the low temp circuit automatically regulated then by the three way mixer? Also, were any steps taken to avoid flue condensation?

    Awesome job & love your videos Mikey Pipes! I am a master plumber in Baltimore, Maryland and have been doing hydronic boiler work for 40 years. I too prefer to use the best quality materials as you, but I am wondering why you didn't install a temperature gauge and a flow check valve on the supply line above the pump?

    SIR, that is the way to do quality work with the right quality equipment! IMPRESSIVE. Very informative and the way it NEEDS to be done. You never seem to get frustrated following after the "hack" or the person who won't take the extra few minutes. Quality all the way around. Does your the Milwaukee pro press do the quarter turn between expansions? My comment for the give away - No wise man or fool can work without tools!

    When the boiler is calling, the main supply water is 160F, and return water is 140F approx, how the mixing valve can supply 120F water to the radiant heat loop because return water is 140F or higher.

    Mike, I would love to try out the channel locks. I really like watching your videos. I'm also in the heating business. I looked at the instructions on a watts expansion tank and found this.
    Series ETX may be installed in a tee or any other suitable tap-
    ping in the heating system and can be installed in a vertical or
    horizontal position. Series ETSX are floor models.
    I know system 2000 always had them horizontal. I've never herd of any reason as to why the nipple couldn't face the floor or ceiling. Keep up the good work.

    Backwards, disconnect negative first. Negative is attached to the chassis of the device. If you disconnect positive first and you wrench/pliers accidently touches the chassis, instant short circuit. So you disconnect negative first., it doesn't matter if the wrench touches chassis since they are the same. Now when you disconnect positive and negative is already disconnected, there is no possibility of a short.

      Getting a few of my guys on board down here in Toronto too. My Foreman has his newly build house, 12 zones IBC boiler that's off the chart with a towel warmer in the main bath. Will send ya some pics privately next time I'm there. Amazing what this newer system can do for personal comfort. Respect from Toronto Ontario

    I've got a particular brand of channel locks that I use. It's not these. Knipex are quality, but I like what I like.
    I win no matter what, because I get the knowledge learned from this video!

    Mikey pipes!! I am 21, an apprentice at the moment and I’m a couple months away from taking my journeyman’s test. I have high hopes of building my own plumbing company at some point in the near future and some Knipex would be awesome to have since I’ve been using the same pairs of channys since I started. Stay safe!

    I would LOVVVEEE! The knipex pliers. I actually just found out about the brand I've been milwaukee loyal and stubborn for a lot of time now and frankly their channel locks are not the best in my opinion. I have been looking at Knipex but I have 6 kids and they are a little to pricey for me even though I've replaced enough crappy pliers because they are less of an immediate hit. So I'd love to try a different higher end brand and expand my horizon! Bless me Saint Mike and keep up the awesome content
