Dads used to instruct their boys in becoming a Man, but now they often try to tame them as a mother would. Done properly, the Father should use the entrance to Manhood as the way to temper a boy into a Man.

@Prince Melsi true. I'm realizing my dad is a beta and took me being his son as an opportunity to "act alpha" when in reality he was not teaching me alpha-male qualities, merely treating me as someone he had power over. I value the things I value now because of my own introspection and inquiry.

      Real men hide their feelings!
      Why?

(The following is my "Jerimiad", highly influenced by the AoM)
Across time and culture, there are three broad categories of Manhood, of being a Man which is NOT synonymous with being male. Being a Man is an earned title, this despite the 3 & 4 wave feminist/gender studies GARBAGE, there are NOT "many ways of being a man". Significantly depart from these categories, and you're not a man Oh there are cultural variations, but the great commonalities indicate this is actually biological-based survival necessary behaviors
    1. Procreator, which can include being a non biological role model, political or spiritual leader, but being a biological father present in the family is the standard.
    2. Provider, which is not to say SOLE provider, but guys, not having to worry about being pregnant or nurse children, can more readily engage in higher risk but higher reward activities. Also more physical strength still plays a critical difference in "dirty, difficult, and dangerous" professions.
    3. Protector, again the on average significantly higher strength than females can be critical, even if it's carrying the same combat load in a shorter period of time, let alone higher but channeled aggression, especially under male-patterned competitive and honor bonding.
Men, once they grew out of their parents home, used to be able to unload emotionally onto their wives or their wives to be. In other words, someone who they could feel safe and vulnerable with, but someone they could also be the Rock when times get tough and women respected and demanded that from their MEN. Not just males, but Men. An earned status and proud title.
And then 3rd wave feminism hit and became the school marms from hell in our schools and increasingly our so called families. These "ideologically enlightened" women demanded that males be more open and sensitive, in other words, more vulnerable to female emotional manipulation, and let's be honest, go for the jugular emotional attacks.
From their Marxist mated to post-modernist cores, 3rd wave feminism was all about seizing power by any and all means, and lying propaganda, disingenuous premises, and false from the start pseudo science were all included in upso-called "consciousness raising", I e., indoctrinating emotionally and intellectually vulnerable students. At first it was almost entirely women, but then the never adequately masculinized males were targeted and now we have the increasing numbers of soy boy simps joining the chorus of the Damned, naturally seeking some approval and intimacy from a woman, but instead becoming the enablers of humorless, self loathing, and emotionally volatile females. Now, both males and females are turned into the cannon fodder of social justice/woke culture.
Despite that feminist "tabla rosa" BULL**** that's been shoved down our throats for the last 40 years (to push and make easier that same Marxist agenda) there are innate differences between male and female humans, and there is incredible common ground of what constitutes Manhood across time and cultures.
For all you males, who for whatever reason missed out on strong Manhood role models it's time to nut up and join the Manhood Reserve!!!
