  • Motorsport TIG welding some chromoly tubing with Ciriza Welding. Chromoly is used to fabricate roll cages for race cars and suspensions among other things. Here is a little intro to TIG welding in motorsports.

    You should do a video on the gear used to start that process such as how you cut the tubing at angles. What machines do you use to lay that out to begin with.

    Especially the first one, looked a little grey. See that a lot on here with tubing and no8 cups. Bigger cup + more flow. Jazzy 10 or fupa 12

    Would like to see how you operate the pedal while working in a contorted position on a real chassis, upside down on your back....

      I'm doing this right now on a real chassis. It's a nightmare.

    Why er80. Ive always been told er70 is best for 4130n to avoid brittle welds.

    I wanna know if chromoly actually cracks because its more rigid compared to mild steel

    • @alexcatto1432
      @alexcatto1432 Před měsícem

      It can crack. That's why you can't mig weld it or get it too hot when tig welding. Other ways it risks cracking.

    I wouldn't use this lay wire technique as you won't get good penetration. It's also worth mentioning weep holes so your weld doesn't blow out near the end as the gas builds up inside the tube and has nowhere to go.

    • @tommys2979
      @tommys2979 Před rokem

      Hes not back purging. Also looks like he got plenty good penetration at the end when it shows the completed weld.

    • @yakswelding86
      @yakswelding86 Před rokem +2

      @Tommy S I never said he needed to backpurge. You don't need to backpurge 4130. Lay wire technique is fine for certain things but I wouldn't use it for a cage. I can tell as someone who has a lot of experience with chromo tubing that this man does not. If you're going to show something like this, on a channel this big, get someone with more experience.

      Go to his Instagram, it's all pipe. Which is fine, he's really good at that. But my guess is he doesn't mess with chromoly too often.

    Chromaloy is also stiffer...compared to mild steel

      same Youngs Modulus

  • @peterkeller9030
    @peterkeller9030 Před rokem

    Can someone tell me why people say chromoly tubing is stronger than mild steel, when mild steel has a higher tensile strength, the chromoly is more rigid though.

    • @tommys2979
      @tommys2979 Před rokem +3

      Exactly. Use chromoly because it creates a shell around you. If you used mild steel it could crush around you a lot easier. Tensile strength is different from hardness

    • @davids2733
      @davids2733 Před 7 měsíci

      Wrong. The mechanical properties of 4130n far surpass mild steel in all areas.

    • @user-ho4rv6kg8u
      @user-ho4rv6kg8u Před 3 měsíci +1

      4130 has a higher tensile strength than mild steel, even cold worked mild steel. Its why 4130 exists. 4130 is steel and therefore the same stiffness as mild steel, Youngs modulus.

    Just keep the wire in the gas envelope and you won't oxidise it.
