There are other more uncommon types of hardwood floors that we do not cover here but the species of hardwoods covered in this video make up 90% of the hardwood floors in the USA.
We are going to go over pine, red oak, white oak, walnut, hickory and maple wood floors in this video.
We will briefly analyze each type of hardwood floor in the following categories so you can choose which wood floor is right for you.
    1. Durability
    2. Cost
    3. Versatility (Ability to be stained and change colors)
    4. Volatility (How much it moves with seasonal moisture changes)

Hint, to avoid splotchy pine finishes: Do a prewash with bullseye shellac, thinned 2 to 1 with alcohol, then fine sand, 200-grit, to remove any nubs, and do another coat with the shellac. Pretty much all finishes can then be applied over the top with great adhesion, and no splotches.

Thank you so much - I was wondering about hickory, and this has confirmed I should go with oak (probably red oak, but maybe white oak).
