Here is how to solve the manual light error of T-fal optigrill -recaliberation GC702853

- Troubleshooting for T-Fal optigrill manual light problem as I have received from T-Fal customer service. Please, follow the below steps carefully. Note, that you will not press the power button during these steps.
T-Fal OptGrill Manual mode fix
*A spacer can be anything, like a cookbook, as long as it is 1 1/2 inches thick. Do not turn the grill on until you are finished the troubleshooting.
1- Plug in the unit press and hold for 3 seconds ( Burger + Fish + Manual ) at the same time.
2-The Steak button will flash 3 times
3-Once the Steak button is solid, Open the grill, place the spacer ( 1 ½ High ) then close the lid.
4-Press the Steak button and let it go, it will flash 3 more times.
5-Open the Grill lid and remove the spacer and close the lid.
6-Unplug the grill.
If the unit light turns off follow the instructions below
7-Plug in the unit press and hold for 3 seconds ( Burger + Poultry + Manual ) at the same time until your display beeps and shows the blue light.
8-Open the lid
9-If the unit light turns off follow the instructions below
Insert spacer
Close lid
10-After 3 seconds the unit light will turn green and then beep.
11- Open the lid, Light will turn red and the unit will beep.
Remove the spacer and close the lid
12-Press the power button 3 times and you will see the light will change
Between the manual modes.
Yellow - Orange - Red
13-Unplug the unit
You’re done.

I've gone through 2 Optigrills because of the evil Manual light problem. I tried this and tonight used it for the first time in ages for a pair of petite Filet Mignons. Bon Apetit to all!
I followed instruction on Amazon comments, it only contains the first 6 steps, totally put my grill to coocoo. So weird I cannot find any official instruction for those anti-human steps to fix a grill besides calling them. Glad I found this video before I throw the grill into the trash. So many people complaining about this problem, this is a design flaw but they didn't even bother to post some official instruction to save people some time.

My Grill is about two years old, and I had this problem too. I called customer service and they walked me through the steps just as you did here. (I was thinking there was more steps but maybe not.) The grill worked great until maybe 6 months ago, and it is very erratic now. I called Customer service once again, but their rep did not seem to know what re calibrating the unit was all about, and told me there were no such instructions.
I still might have to buy another grill, but I was thrilled to find your comments on the grill reviews on Amazon, which led me to your video. To say thank you does not sound like much but what you have done for other is HUGE ! Thank You.
Thanks Gary for your comment ! I'm sorry that these steps couldn't solve the problem. Sometimes, if you missed any of these steps, it wouldn't work. May I ask to do one last trial. Try to print the steps listed in the description under the video so that you will not miss any and do ALL these steps starting from STEP 1. Note, that you will not press the power button during these steps. Let me know if it worked or not.

Here your instructions in german:
1.) Stromstecker in Steckdose, dann drei Sekunden lang gleichzeitig die Tasten: Burger + Fisch + Manual drücken und halten.
2.) Steakbutton wird dreimal blinken
3.) Sobald der Strekbutton dauerhaft leuchtet, den Grill öffnen und einen Abstandshalter (38mm, z. B. drei Untertassenteller, kleines Buch etc.) auf den Heitzplatten platzieren und den Grill schließen.
4.) Den Steakbutton betätigen und warten bis er dreimal geblinkt hat.
5.) Den Grill öffnen, Abstandshalter rausnehmen und den Grill wieder schließen.
6.) Das Stromkabel von der Steckdose ziehen.
7.) Das Stromkabel wieder in die Steckdose stecken, dann drei Sekunden lang gleichzeitig die Tasten: Burger + Geflügel + Manual drücken und halten solange bis der Grill piepst und das Display blau leuchtet.
8.) Den Grill öffnen
9.) Wenn das Display ausgeht, dann den Abstandshalter einsetzen und schließen.
10.) Nach drei Sekunden leuchtet das Display grün und der Grill piepst.
11.) Den Grill öffnen, das Display wird rot und der Grill piepst erneut. Nun den Abstandshalter entfernen und den Grill schließen.
12.) Den Powerbutton drei mal drücken und du wirst sehen, dass das Display die Farbe wechselt.
13.) den Grill vom Stromnetz nehmen. Geschaft! :-)

Klappt das wohl auch mit der +Version? (GC7128) Haben den Grill heute bekommen und Rinder und Schweine Steaks ausprobiert und beide waren viel zu lange drin die waren richtig trocken. Vielleicht würde ein mal Kalibrieren helfen?

It broke completely after the recalibration :( It used to go to the Manuel mode, but now it's just flashing white and not turning off anymore :(

I figured out how to use mine with the calibration being off. I figured out if you put a glass that is tall enough in between the handle to hold the plates apart then it would stay in auto mode until heated. After that it would work.
This is my second unit. I got rid of my first one because of this problem. I wish I would have found this video back in 2017. I could have saved myself from getting a new one. Wish I wouldn't have thrown out my old one.
I searched high and low before to figure this out. Even T-fal's site didn't have this. They had the first part of the calibration but not the last part. How convoluted are these instructions?! That is crazy.
Oh, well, it worked. Thank you, thank you, thank you. My grill works right again. Will have to save this video in case it ever happens again.
It worked. Thank you. I purchased June 29 of 2017. Also got the 2yr protection plan which ran out when I had the problem July 2nd. Tried this and presto. Back in business

I had problems and did the reset, but it kept coming back. Finally i found the simple answer. Turn the power off at the supply when out of use. Never had a problem since.

Perfect! Did the trick for me. But I had to use something about 3cm (1.2 inches) thick. On my first try I used something thicker (about 1.8 inches) and wasn't able to finalize the calibration process. Thanks you for the helpful video. :-)

I was about to throw mine out, but I'll do this. I've had mine for 5 years and I've basically used it for veggies and Paninis because Manuel was always stuck on.

I bought the T-Fal optigrill at Goodwill for 4 bucks it worked but it would not let me use the preset set settings thank you for helping me calibrate it for that I gave you a like & subscribe to your page

thank you, thank you...it was driving me NUTS that it was no longer working as it should.
Here's an easy solution that worked for me. After trying to recalibrate I was reading somewhere to just let it preheat. Wait for the grill to preheat and beep. If you lift the lid while it's preheating then it will automatically switch to manual. Solved my problem anyway. Had no idea. Now it's cooking good...really good.

Thanks, I was on the point of binning my grill, for over a year I have had to be very firm with it, i.e. slamming it shut to get it to warm up without the white light coming on. Eventually even that wouldn't get it to work properly, a last google before destroying an binning it, led me to this video, now it seems to be working great, Many thanks! Tonight, three pork steaks, if it works I will be a happy, and fat, man!

I have the same model as yours and my grill almost drove me to drink. I can't believe it is now working. I am so happy, you probably felt the same way. I was ready to throw it out, I think I ruined more food than the grill cost me plus the embarrassment when I ruined good food when I had family over. I feel like I was blessed tonight.

Thank you, this worked for me, too. The first time I did the process I used a book that was less than 1.5 inches thick. I used another book that was 2 inches thick and it worked perfectly. So be sure to use an object (book) more than 1.5 inches thick.
Thanks, it helps! The thing is that if you use thicker than 1,5inch spacer- you may face problem with the second calibration step, so I used 0,7inch spacer instead and all was good. Sure I'll recalibrate it next time with 1,5inch to be sure my steaks are perfectly cooked.

Thank goodness for you. I thought i broke my mother in-laws' grill; all I did was press the power button before pressing ok.
As an IFBB registered competitive bodybuilder I use this grill...probably more than you guys will in one month than you will the whole year easily. So it has heavy useable. It stopped working and it would just turn to manual and then to preheat it to turn solid I would have to open the lid and then close it, just a mess, having a ton of problems. I looked for my receipt that I kept Incase something like this happened cuz I put it in a safe place, however my safe place was too safe and I couldn’t find it lol However, THIS WORKS. Do it.

It took a few tries but this worked for mine. At first the streak button never would turn solid. Then I did the second set of instructions and went back to the first set and it worked.
