  • Excited to share my thoughts on the t-fal optigrill.
    Check out the recipes on gastrofork.ca and also here:
    Miso Marinated Sablefish
    1/4 cup mirin
    1/4 cup sake
    1/3 cup miso paste
    1/3 cup granulated sugar
    6 sablefish fillets with skin on
    Mix the mirin and sake together in a small saucepan and bring to a boil. Add the miso until smooth, then add sugar and cook over medium heat until the sugar is dissolved. Transfer the marinade into a bowl.
    Wash fish then pat with paper towel to absorb moisture. Coat the marinade on both sides of the fish, or submerge into marinade. You can keep this overnight, but still works well with 1 hour marination.
    Prep your T-fal OptiGrill to the Fish setting. When it’s ready, place the fish with skin down and cook until rare-medium. Check every couple minutes to make sure it does not overcook depending on thickness of your filets.
    Serve with hot rice.
    Filipino BBQ Pork
    2-3 pounds of pork shoulder or pork butt, sliced into easy to grill pieces
    2-3 chilli peppers, chopped
    1 head of garlic, chopped
    1 cup vinegar
    1 cup soy
    salt and pepper
    Marinate all ingredients, at least for an hour (if not overnight).
    Prep your T-fal OptiGrill to the Steak setting. When it’s ready, place pork evenly on the grill and cook fully.
    Serve with hot rice.

      +John Seo Hi John, thanks for your feedback - I didn't know that you could cook frozen meats on it. I've only used the opti-grill 2-3 times since I bought it, so I'm surprised it's not working - it's an electrical issue that was resolved when I contacted them.

    You have had this grill now for a good few months now, how is it holding up? Also, were you finally able to perfect the medium done steak with it? I'm thinking of getting one.

    • @gastroforkable
      @gastroforkable  Před 8 lety +1

      +lordoftheflings I'm sad to report that it is broken! It wont get past the warming stage, so I'm hoping to take it back in and get a new one. For the medium done steak, I take it out at the 'rare' phase but I open it up to double check every so often. The grill fares a lot better for grilling fish, barbecue and paninis/sandwiches. Hope that helps!

      Yes! It still doesn't work, only on manual mode which is fine for me I guess. Not sure if it's a common issue amongst other optigrill users but I'd probably get the manual version of the new optigrill xl which is cheaper!

      @vanatsakou7773 Před 3 lety +1

      Hi there! I just bought it today (the xl model), I have already cooked chicken and the time needed was rediculous!!! I had boneless chicken thies and it took 4 minutes to preheat plus 10 minutes to cook! It measures the hight of the meat and adjusts the cooking time. I would guess no more than 20 minutes for a medium rare stake.

      Actually my Opti-Grill XL does steak to medium in about 4 minutes, and I’ve done a lot of 1 1/2 inch steaks on it. If someone’s machine is taking longer then it’s broken.

      It does apparently, there is a sensor on the hinge site, so it knows the exact thickness. Friend of mine uses it for two years now, calls it "The Beast" and says it's the best kitchen appliance he ever bought.

    Problem with this machine is all the fat that giving the taste to the meat being poured out. In a traditional way of cooking steak, you even sear it with butter to give extra taste. And its not a good idea to mix different types of meat where taste and smell being mixed up.

    • @4seeableTV
      @4seeableTV Před 7 lety +6

      That's not a 'problem' with the grill, that's how it's designed, and it's why many people like it. Less fat.

    • @cnnw3929
      @cnnw3929 Před 7 lety +2

      I will agree that a traditional grill is better, because the fat burns on the charcoal, or super-heated coils or burners below. That charred fat evaporates, and flavors the meat on the grid. This grill does not do that, but fries the meat on a grid instead. I have found that this machine does a great job in a pinch, when weather does not permit grilling outside. It's good for something quick, when I'm in a hurry. If you get this, just don't toss out your regular outdoor grill!
