Called T-fal and they managed to fix it for me, here's what you need to do
You will need something to use as a 1-1/2" spacer in the recalibration process. An oven mitt or hot pad, a rolled length of aluminum foil, or even a wooden spoon can serve as this spacer. The height of the spacer needs to be at least 1-1/2" and no more than 2" to properly align the plates:
For model GC702
1. Plug the unit in.
2. Press and hold for the following buttons at the same time for 3 seconds: Burger + Fish + Manual and release the buttons.
3. The Steak button will flash 3 times.
4. Once the Steak button is solid, open the grill, place the spacer between the grill plates and close the lid.
5. Press the Steak button once and let it go, it will flash 3 more times.
6. Open the Grill and remove the spacer, then close the grill.
7. Unplug the grill for 10 seconds.
8. Plug the grill back in and it should operate correctly.
If you have the OptiGrill with Ceramic Plates or the OptiGrill Plus - models GC704 & GC712 - please follow these additional instructions:
1. Press and hold the following buttons at the same time Burger + Poultry + Manual until the unit beeps and shows the blue light.
2. Open the lid.
3. If the unit light turns red open the grill and insert the spacer, close the lid until the light goes off.
4. Open grill and remove the spacer, close the grill and unplug for 10 seconds.
5. Plug the grill back in and the unit will be reset.
If in step 3 the light turns off, follow these additional steps:
1. Insert spacer
2. Close lid
3. After 3 seconds the unit light will turn green then beep.
4. Open lid, Light will turn red and the unit will beep.
5. Remove the spacer and close the lid
6. Press the power button 3 times, with each press the light will change from Yellow - Orange - Red.
7. Unplug the unit for 10 seconds.
8. Plug the grill back in and the unit will be reset. - Hry

Thank you Mr. Nore. I will go out to the trash can and retrieve my Opti-Grill. I didn't know there was a "recal" procedure for these grills.
So good of you to share this video - it worked perfectly well. Another tip is to use the rubber maid lids or plastic lids of similar size to 2 inches (5cm) a shown in the video. Anything too large won't work in circumferance as I found out. I observed a red light and although I got a little worried, the procedure still worked a treat. Thank you so much again!!!

Thank you, your tutorial was excellent for the GC7 12 model. Took me a few times and I didn't think it was working. Then I really got it locked up. Called customer service. I knew more than her. First she told me I needed a block as if I didn't have one. Then she told me I couldn't do it myself. Then she had to read the directions and was unsure herself. She only told me to do the Hamburg fish & manual button, nothing else didn't know why the white light was coming on. Why is she our customer service rep for T-Fal optigrill? She only told me one part of it and of course it didn't work. So I listen to YOU slowly and I tried it AGAIN .It works!!! don't call customer service IN ALBERTA..She really didn't know anything.. she just wanted me to send it for repair to her..gawd .... Thank you .. I'd tell you how I did it but I'm not even sure WHAT I did differently this time. But you do have to do the TWO processes... And I think I let it keep beeping for a while so maybe that's what activated the sensor. And I changed the block size idea inside.
I've wanted one of these for a year but I couldn't bring myself to pay that money. I found one yesterday at a thrift store for $25. It was like new, no heat marks or grill damage. They probably called customer service too and had the same reply as I got and gave it away .
So I'm happy I got it working... I love being Mrs. Fix it..ha Love my life..
Thank you mine too stopped working about a year-and-a-half ago and I just put it in the cabinet. After pulling it out and it still didn't work I was about to throw it away when I had a thought, "let's see what CZcams has on it."
As for the people who did not see your video. I imagine thousands threw them in landfills or put them away to ultimately be sold at garage sales for a buck or two.

This product is a great product once you know the recalibration process for that model. It will need recalabration over the life of product. Please purchase if you know recalibration process for model.

These were the steps for Optigrill XL:

1. Plug in the unit press and hold for 3 seconds ( Burger + Poultry + Lobster ) at the same time.
2. The Steak button will flash 3 times
3. Once the Steak button is solid, Open the grill, place the spacer ( 1 ½ High ) then close the lid.
4. Press the Steak button and let it go, it will flash 3 more times.
5. Open the Grill lid and remove the spacer and close the lid.
6. Unplug the grill.
7. Plug in the unit press and hold for 3 seconds ( Burger + Steak + Lobster ) at the same time until your display beeps and shows the blue light.
8. Open the lid
9. If the unit light turns off follow the instructions below
10. Insert spacer

9. Wenn die Statusleuchte erlischt, befolgen Sie die nachstehenden Anweisungen
10. Abstandshalter einsetzen
11. Deckel schließen
12. Nach 3 Sekunden leuchtet die Statusleuchte grün und das Gerät piept.
13. Öffnen Sie den Deckel, das Licht wird rot und das Gerät piept erneut.
14. Entfernen Sie den Abstandshalter und schließen Sie den Deckel
15. Drücken Sie den Netzschalter dreimal und Sie werden sehen, dass das Statuslicht zwischen den manuellen Modi wechselt. Gelb - Orange - Rot
16. Ziehen Sie den Stecker aus der Steckdose
17. Fertig.

The newer models of GC702 (mine 11/2016) have the same recalibration steps as models GC704 & GC712!
Pls follow instructions of this models if you GC702 shows in the end "blinking sausage" + white light.

As long as you know what model you have and the recalibration for that model. You can be happy and get the grill. Remember, you might need the recalibration or you might not.
Forget it... I have gone for the optigrill 3 in one that I am in control of.. I'll decide when my foods cooked.. I don't like the way it cooks steak... I'll manually operate the grill that way I can season and render the meat properly
Thanks a ton. I have a GC702D and the light and beep reactions of the Optigrill were somewhat different. But after following your instructions, it accepted the chosen dish (e.g. steak) and didn‘t switch to ‚M‘anual. The steaks are much better with the automatic program than in manual mode
easy way to reset this device. plug in and push hamburger fish en manual at the same time then your steak will blink three times and wil burn all the time . then open device put something in the grill of 3 cm and close device then push steak again and it will blink again three times and then burn all the time open device take piece out and close. unplugged machine and wait 10 seconds and done device will be reset as new. have cooking fun

I just got my T-Fal Grill working mine is the same as yours GC702 Model, My grill always stayed in manual mode too, After pushing the steak button and getting the three light Blinks and I push the state button while the spacer is in I got three blinks and unplug power cord I had to wait a minute and a half before that lady from{{ T-Fal}} would let me plug it back in and it worked. thank God and Hallelujah When I was doing it your way my light would never come on while the spacer is in the grill I got nothing no light at all on the far right so I had to call them. PASS THIS ON CHIEF, .because a big brother has to eat LOL GO DAWGS!!!
Is there a way to keep the heaters running when on manual mode?? Sometimes I like to overcook some food, and have it burn a little, but it's not possible with this thing, because the heaters just turn off after some time and the temperature never gets high enough.
I found i needed to push hamburger fish and manual to get the steak to light up. And then it all followed on and no more manual...yay.

I have model 8351s1 --This procedure does not work, it still sticks on poultry when I plug back in - any thoughts?

Hello,for model GC713 does not work. After 5) Burger, Poultry, and Manual buttons - no light blue and light Frozen ,Poultry ,Bacon and Manual buttons.What to do?
Call customer support, they will tell you what reset goes with your model and try different items that are one and an one half inch thick to place between grill plates. That was my issue before I could reset it. Hope this helps!

After this video i tried to recalibrate it using it, Yet after recalibration, All it could read was chicken. On top of that, The light was blinking. I couldn't use anything else, I couldn't turn it off, I had to unplug it. Did i do something wrong?

The green light does not appear when I put an object inside. Must rubber or plastic objects be used? Their height should be a maximum of 5 cm? The green light only appears when the device is almost closed. The red light does not stop when I lift the lid. I followed all the steps in the video. Can you tell me what I'm doing wrong?

Which model do you have? Is it the GC 7/12 ? Finally got mine to work. You have to do the hamburger fish and manual button first as directed in the video. Then you have to do hamburger chicken manual. Also I changed my block inside if that one didn't work. Keep trying don't give up it'll come.
same thing for me, the light dont go green after insert spacer. i follow the instruction...the green appear only when i put out spacer and almost close the cover (approx 3/4 inch) i have 2015 optigrill gc 702d52...

@@brightside3494 unplug the device let it sit for 20 seconds plug it back in do not turn on the power button hold down the hamburger icon the fish and the M button you will see the stake icon next to the fish icon the steak icon will flash 3 times open the lid put a 2in spacer in between the top and bottom plate no more than 2 in close the lid hit the state button 1 time then open the lid take your book or spacer out unplug the unit let it sit for 90 seconds minimal plug it back in and you'll be good to go

I hate this grill, throwing it out and getting me a reliable headach free george fireman grill. I shoyld not have to spend my day searching google or on the phone with customer support to get this shit to just cook my damn food.

stupid thing i have the GC702D and its only flashing white and blinking sausage. no chance even with all the tricks. sending this piece of junk back
Please call tech support before you send it back. They will tell you how to reprogram your model. Even if you send it back you will have to know how to re calibrate it again.
Neoshan it did the same thing wit me.. when i open the lid slowly it actually turned red... finally.. i used playing cards for my spacer
mine was the same, but this worked for me: I started with the blinking sausage and white light, then did the following:You need a 1.5 inch thick spacer to hold the grill plates apart. I used a paperback book. Unplug for 10 seconds, then plug back in.
(1) With lid closed and plugged in, press and hold the Burger, Fish, and Manual buttons at the same time, until the steak button flashes three times.
(2) Open lid, put spacer in center of grill, close lid. Press the Steak button. The steak button will flash three more times.
(3) Open lid, remove spacer, close lid. Unplug the grill.
(4) After 10 seconds unplugged, plug the grill back in. The lid should still be closed.
(5) Press and hold the Burger, Poultry, and Manual buttons at the same time, until the grill chirps and the cook light turns blue.
(6) Open lid, put the spacer on the grill, close lid. After a few seconds, the grill will chirp and the cook light will turn green.
(7) Open the lid, remove the spacer. Cook light will turn red.
(8) Close lid and press the power button three times. The cook light will change color with each press.
(9) Unplug grill.
(10) Done!
