With Toyota being way over priced, every Toyota and Lexus shopper owes it to themselves to give Mazda a real look.
Very reliable, phenomenal machines.
maybe not at this point, Mazda have noticed that influx of Toyota customers and began price gouging of their own.
That's exactly why I now have a CX-30. More value for money, great to drive, and solid Japanese engineering and reliability.
Yep I’m coming here from looking at a RAV 4 and not being able to stomach the price.
@@yt_hatesfreespeechhaven't seen that here. Paid sticker price for my '23 Turbo 2 months ago.
overpriced and marked up
I just traded my 2018 CX-5 Grand Touring for a 2023 Carbon Edition. Love my Mazda. It's great that Sky-active AWD is standard now, works well with G-vectoring for a fun drive. Wish I had the budget for a turbo trim.
Up here in Canada the cx5 GT trim can be chosen with either the NA 2.5 and the 2.5 turbo and the trim comes with ventilated seats, leather and all the good bits. Eventually I might replace my 2016 cx5 with a new cx5.
Still one of the best! Wish they had offered the wireless and touch functionality for Android/Apple earlier.😐 Hopefully there is a retroactive software update.
Yeah. I’m not happy my 2022 Turbo doesn’t have wireless CarPlay. It was the redesign model year and it should have come with it. I very much doubt there will be a software update.
I wonder if earlier models with 10.25'' infotainment screens have touch screen capabilities
You can now make it touch through the settings by disabling the feature non touch when in driving
Been that way since day one , been using touchscreen in 2021 cx-5@@DavidJoshuaMartinez
@@patrickgagnon9662 I mean using touchscreen while driving that is what is new that you can enable now through settings
Thank you for your attention to detail and all the figures and close up views in the interior section!!!!
Glad you liked it!
Just rented this exact model/color for a mini vacation. This was a great ride, and comfort level was indeed nice.
Still one of the most beautiful after 7 years.
For the longest I’ve been wanting the Crv after the remodel came out. I currently have a civic so I was like let me stick with Honda. But I do have a heavy foot and just hated how it lagged. And the reason why I wanted a CRV was for the bigger space and mostly AWD (I live in nyc) I saw this Mazda CX5 on the road and it made me reconsider. I love how it looked and the size as well. I’m here reading the comments and now want a cx5
Mazda is just as reliable as Toyota. I love Hondas but I will be getting a Mazda next! Check out the CX50 bro. Alot better than CRV
You won’t regret it at all! I’ve tested both 2023 CRV and CX-5 and chose the CX-5 in the end for the fun driving dynamics. Still love it 6000 miles later without a problem
My wife will not let me drive her ‘19 CX-5 GT. She absolutely loves the car.,
@@jb7797 oh man, now I have to reconsider that crv lol
The sounds system in this car is amazing.. it adapts to the road so nicely and the base and overall quality is second to none in the premium suv segment
i have a top trim CX-5 (2021) and the premium bose system ain't all that. It's good enough at best. i put in a custom subwoofer in there much better now!!
the system sounds flat AF and lacks clarity, what are you talking about?
I think in fairness, it's a good 'cheap car' system - not super premium, but it's decent compared to others in the same segment. Hyundai Tucson for example sounds pretty crap compared to the CX-5. About the same as the JBL in a Rav-4@@anonymous00117
I have the top spec, the Bose system is nothing special. With centre point on it sounds ok but still nothing special, it is a bit lacking in detail.
You put in a "custom subwoofer".. Please do elaborate@@denziiey
Love the new sized 19” wheels, beautiful !
Also love love the larger looks like 4” exhaust tips along with functioning dual exhaust. Very nice!👍👍👍
bigger wheels mean rougher ride
My 23 signature has the same size wheels but silver. They look way better in black for 24. Also I can attest the ride is not rough at all. In fact quite the opposite, too soft for me, so I upgraded to Bilstein B6 to firm up the ride to keep my wife from getting seasick in the mountains.
Really enjoy your guys very informative reviews. Just subscribed. Good luck in the future.
Great! Welcome to the family!
Looking on the Mazda website it looks like the only color interior the turbo signature is available with is brown. Is this correct?
The front interior is near perfect
No fog lights 🥴
@@Striker50_I think he wrote interior, not exterior.
But I have a 2021, I like my fog lights.
I’m looking at adding an M5 competition sedan tho- I’ve been to the dealer multiple times. They just need me to pull the trigger. I’ve got the cash saved, and now that I can do it, it doesn’t seem as fun anymore. The fun was in the chase for the last 3 years of saving. I got the last amount I needed Wednesday.
@@2004cyrus ah understood. Dash would be clearer. Nice. Just picked up a 23 Premium Plus. Was going to do the Navi SD review today on my channel but they sent the wrong one so I gotta wait a few more days for the replacement
@@Striker50_ oh I had no idea you had a auto review channel, Striker? I’d be happy to subscribe and check out your stuff. And my CX-5 is not the signature, it’s a grand touring with premium package from 2021. I have just rolled 17,000 miles. I’ll buy it at lease end for a spare car.
Except the new interior in the 3, CX30, cx50, and cx90 is even better.
Fantastic review as per usual! 😸
This video is BS as there were few changes beside the standard Istart/stop and $1,250 price increase, both of which no one wants. But I guess they have to add fluff to make that YT video sweet spot of a 25 minute video.
I have to be honest I never purchased a Mazda, my first one was back in 2021 I have a CX-5 GT in That beautiful soul Red color! And I absolutely love it! Not at they added the touch ability on the entertainment system I think I'm going to go back and turn in my lease and get another one!
Wat happened to the red stripes in the grill of turbo models🤔???
I just bought a base 2021 CX5 Sport two years ago, it only cost me $28,000 and had everything that I needed, two years later I’m still in love with this car, it’s just a great vehicle at a very affordable price, and you get options and quality only in cars far more expensive. I’m thinking of trading it in due to my high mileage existence, and getting at 2024, same thing. In my book can’t beat it.
Is it true that this car burns too much oil?
No it doesn’t. My wife and I have a 2016. I regularly check everything on it and it is not burning any oil
@@kevinW826 I have a 2016 CX-5...it doesn't burn oil...it has 81,000 miles on it...
I purchased a 2024 carbon edition with red leather a few weeks ago and I’m very happy with it. The only thing I don’t love is the entertainment system but I’ll get used to it. I don’t think I can connect my iPhone without keeping it plugged in but maybe I haven’t figured it out yet. Overall, it’s a beautiful car with great features.
Yep carbon edition doesn't have wireless phone connection
Agree, parked a 24 in the garage Friday 60 months 0% love the vehicle
How much was it?
Is the lane keep assist improved?
Have they fixed the poor safety results in the updated IIHS rear passenger moderate impact test?
I hope someone will talk about the defrost system on the CX5. Mine probably isn't set up correctly and I always have a frosty spot when the temperature is cold..
Just ordered this. Can't wait to pick it up in a month :)

did they get rid of the cylinder deactivation?
Does 2023 CX 5 be updated to the touch screen as well ? Is it a software update ?
Nice review. Does this come with a remote start key fob?
I have a 22 and the remote start is done on the app, not the key fob. Love the vehicle.
Are you sure about even for preferred trim we have wireless & touchscreen by default while driving car.
Is wireless android auto standard for all trims this year?
I wish they kept the horizontal mesh pattern from last year with the red dots on this trim looks a bit wierd/brittle
That was Kia
Agree, glad I got a '23 Turbo!
I love the donut score 🎉😅
Carbon turbo is a little different from previous years it will be Zircon sand with terracotta interior or White with terracotta
have they fixed the Lane centering in 2024? for better Adaptive cruise on the highway. Can we expect this vehicle to be properly centered in the lane instead of shakin within the lane?
Nice observation, I got the 2023 car for a week, and the bounce against the lines is boring af.
Will wait for cx70 with inline 6. I just cant go back to turbo 4 after vw tiguan experience
Great review, guys and spot on! We purchased a CX-5 Signature a year ago and are extremely happy. Definitely feels very premium ( although, not quite the level of German vehicles) and a terrific daily driver / overall value. Glad they upgraded the tech…👍
I'd say depends on which German vehicle :P Like, when I compared it to some Volkswagen, Mazda still had the interior I preferred. Recently got my first Mazda and extremely happy as well!
German vehicles seem fun to drive but they cost more, and the maintenance costs is very high.
German equvilant are like 15 grand more though
Mazdas don't break down with costly repairs every 6 months like today's German crap.
And the reliability is not as good.@@ppumpkin3282
Why do I lose my sirius after playing music on my plugged in iPhone? This has happened several times; my screen goes dark. ??
Yes for driving dynamics. Yes for the interior quality. But negative for missing features. No remote starter on the key fob, no digital speedometer (like CX-90), no touch screen for Mazda infotainment (entire system is dated) and many other missing features.
I've owned a 2008 Mazda 3, 2016 Mazda 6, and a 2019 Mazda 6. Mazda has the best steering aorund. The touch and feel are unmatched. I'm now driving a 2022 Kia Stinger, which is ok but i do miss Mazda. Too bad they've stopped updating and selling the 6 in the States. They could have a real hit bringing it back, updated of course. And stop making silly decisions like using non touchscreens, using the same old 6 gear, calling 250hp a turbo option, and always being the last implementing common tech features. Mazda is already unique, they just need to be a pioneer/leader. I'll very likely never buy a Honda or Toyota. Just not my style but i do like the lifted look of the Crown. It's a modern take on the look of the sedan and i think should be copied. SUVs and their expanding sizes are ridiculous at this point. Lifting the sedans slightly would help with visibility when driving behind these behemoths on the rode.
I've owned three CX-5's. A 2017 Touring, a 2019 GT and a 2022 Signature. Just a few things I didn't really like about them.
1. stiff ride. Got much stiffer after the 2017.
2. fuel economy with the turbo. If you do a lot of HW driving not a problem. If you do mostly city driving it's fairly hard on gas.
3. front seats have to move way up if the rear seats are down and flat.
4. the USB ports are inside the center console.
5. the engine shuts off when remote start (Mazda App) is used when the door is opened...even if you have the fob on you.
6. the rear wiper seemed weak on all 3 I owned.
7. the rear USB ports and the heated seat buttons are in the rear console, so having a 3rd person sitting in the rear makes those impossible to use.
8. the paint was thin and fragile (2019 was a soul crystal red).
9. the NA engine would perform much better with an 8 speed transmission.
10. the seats in the 2019 and 2022 were somewhat hard and uncomfortable for longer trips.
11. Bose system doesn't sound that great. Had a 2021 Acura RDX ELS system that was light years better.
12. 2022 head unit would reboot often while driving.
This was just my personal experience with owning three of them. That said, I really liked all three. All three were reliable. I'm waiting for the CX-70 and will most likely buy another Mazda soon. No car is perfect.
Hmm. In my experience, the ride got softer from 2017 and beyond. And again for my my 2020 and 2023 which feel the same save for the move to 19" wheels which just makes you feel more of the road's imperfections.
The body roll is too much for my liking and I will probably do some suspension mods to improve that. But I'm probably in the minority since I come from a performance car background.
I’ve only had a 2021, but on the Bose compared to the RDX ELS I really thought the Bose sounded a lot better. At least when I remember the price difference from my GT CX5 to the ‘21 RDX ASPEC.
@@ericfranke1637 I never really noticed the body roll to be an issue, at least for me. I am a somewhat slower driver though, so that's probably why. I agree, it's most likely the wheel size that makes the difference in feeling every road imperfection. It's not a deal breaker, but I do prefer a softer ride. Since I posted a little over a month ago, I went on to buy a new 2024 CX-5 Turbo Premium. I keep coming back to Mazda for a reason.
@@crzmicky For whatever reason, I just liked the ELS sound better. The Bose system sounds distant to my ears. Like a blanket is covering the speakers or something. I just bought a new CX-5. The Bose system is also a great system. I still think the ELS sound is superior, but I can live with the Bose.
@@2bookoo4u congrats on the new ride.
Did you guys noticed a drony sound? I feel like the cabin. Is way too loud with this drone type sound but I feel like it might be the stock tires?
Is there a cd player in the stereo???
I may have been napping, but did you mention if it was AWD or not? The size of the vehicle doesn't bother me a bit, it seems to be a known quantity, so if interior space is important to you, it's best to look elsewhere. We are 'empty nesters' so I think a CX-5 would be perfect. Thank you for a nice review.
It has standard AWD. Thanks for watching!
suddenly my 2023 signature seems old lol! wish i had the wireless car play & touch screen.
Perhaps they will offer a software update in the future
Which trim is this one?
The problem with the auto start/stop is you use the starter over and over. Doubt they’ve upgraded the starter unit to handle this which means the potential for failure exists sometime after that warranty expires.
Is the parchment interior no longer available? And no more coupons.
Late reply, but parchment interior is still available. Bought my CX 5 yesterday with it. Not a very popular interior, but dealer can order it for you. About 3 months for special order.
Awesome review as always!!! I wish Mazda had brought some mild hybrid system to their lineup. Any idea if Mazda is planning for it in near Future?
Supposably the nex cx70...

We had a 2019 Grand Touring and loved it at first and then after a couple years the drive did not feel nearly as nice when we first bought it. It was very noticeable to the point we didn’t enjoy driving it anymore so we got rid of it for a Mach E. My in-laws have had two CX 9s and they seemed to last quality-wise.
About the 2024: as much as I still love the exterior of this car, it’s gotta be updated. Even more so the INTERIOR. It hurts me that it’s been the same since 2017. And last thing that’s irritating is the rear seat warmer buttons on the fold out arm rest. They should have been integrated into the door panel in case you have a 5th passenger back there! At least they won’t feel left out and everyone’s bums will be cold lol
I have a 2018 feels like new ...
Just sold a 2017, it felt just as the day I bought it.
It’s all but confirmed, an all new CX-5 will be introduced in the 2025-2026 timeframe. With Toyotas hybrid system. 👍
is there any difference between the 2023 and 2024 i-stop? i've read it's harder to disable on the 2024, i.e. you have to start the car and manually disable it each time. can someone explain the differences if any between the 23 and 24?
Since this turbo model did not have the system, we can't say what the difference in feel is. Generally, autoa start/stop systems have to be disabled after each restart
how is the cx 50 quieter if the 5 has more acoustic glass?
Mexico build. Not from Japan.
@@gameboy7527 why would that matter?
The quality control is not good like in Japan.

Just got a 2024 mazda cx5, my only complaint so far is the car honks when I lock/unlock. Once when I lock, and twice when I unlock. I can't figure out how to stop it, checked the manual checked online. The cx5 also beeps when I lock and unlock so I see no reason why I can't turn off the honk.
Anyone know if this is Mazdas version of the FORD Edge?
This is in no way related to a Ford
Kind of concerned about rock damage to the radiator with those enormous open grills. Does anyone have experience with the CX-5?
That Bright finish hockey stick needs to go. The “dark chrome” finish from the front would be much better. And no premium vehicle should have that tablet style screen. Still it’s a nice car. Ford has closed the gap quite a bit with their latest Escape and Mazda is competing well with the CS50 which is more to my taste. Great reviews brothers.
Gross you use Ford and Mazda in the same sentence. You are not a car guy and your taste is unsophisticated. Every vehicle there uses a tablet style screen. You don’t get out much.
Don't see what's wrong with the screen.
Happy Saturday guys!
Happy Sunday!
I wish they would update the steering wheel and infotainment dial. Only the CX-5 and Miata still use the old ones

@@amc78looks are subjective, but yeah
the cup holder placement on this car drives me absolutely insane. a cup there is going to block access to the infotainment control knob. it’s an INSANE choice.

As a mechanic never buy the turbo version of any car
Can you please tell me why. Are parts more expensive or something
Why is that
@@ginaf9848 the turbo can put more stress on the engine, especially during hard acceleration. If you want a car that will last you a couple hundred thousand miles you may want to skip out on the turbo. They may require more maintenance and not last as long as a non-turbo engine.
@@gilbertlopezthank you I trust and appreciate ur recommendation
@@ginaf9848 I'm not a mechanic btw just replying 😅 but I do own a Mazda and know a fair bit about cars. Mazda are probably the best bang for your buck right now and very reliable, they have a partnership with toyota who it seems they learned a lot from. I can attest they're very reliable. But I have owned 2023, 2019, and 2020 Mazdas. I would say anything pre-2020 has a lot of small annoying technology issues and recalls. Not a dealbreaker but I have had many issues with carplay failing on trips with a 2019 cx5 and buggy backup camera on a 2018 mazda 3 and those are about my only complaints.
What is the ground clearance?
7.6 inches
Zircoun color is very nice
ohhh, i like the new color!!
why havent they updated the interior design like cx30
the 2023 models needs a infortainment update to bring it inline!
Hello, what is the color of this SUV in the video?
Jet Black
Is there any new model cx5 coming out 2025?
Nobody knows. Seriously.
It kind of looks like a 2023 Ford Escape. I do drive a 2020 Ford Escape SE in black.
Pet peave is that the volume knob is not an on/off switch for the radio. Pushing it diwn only mutes the radio, so the next time you start the car, the radio comes blaring on. Pushing and holding the button turns the entire infotainment system off - you don't even get the clock!
I shouldn't have to go 4 clicks deep just to turn the radio off. Can't get used to just turning the volume down. Very annoying!
I have a 2017 and 2023 Mazda CX-5 and when I tap the volume knob down you are right that it mutes the radio. But the radio stays muted on all future startups and does not come back on till I tap it again. I never tried holding it down.
In Europe CX-5 in this spec has 360 camera.
I have a 2017 model and the I-stop system still annoys me. Once the car is running and the system is disabled I do not turn off the engine even for a fuel stop achieving the opposite of what it was intended to do.
? I had a 2017 and 2020 and neither of them had i-Stop. That did not start for the U.S. models until 2024.
Can you not switch that off?
I can understand turning off start-stop since it can be annoying when driving in traffic. But why don’t you shut off the car when refueling? That seems like overkill.
@@ericfranke1637 Lucky man. It is annoying like hell.
When I sit in my 2013 cx5 and do not need tp pay $50k... my car is still the best. Give me cx60 to decide if I want it. Why the heck we have to wait for cx70 to decide what to do😅😅😅
difference between CX-50? ... why would you pick one over the other ?
Cx50 is meant to replace cx5 but cx5 sells so well. They couldn’t just cut it.
Personally had a 15 cx5. Sold it at 200,000 km for 10k cdn. Would’ve kept it if ac wasn’t a issue. Other wise, all I did was oil change and a water pump replacement.
Very reliable and highly recommend
50 is wider, flatter. Not as nimble. Rear suspension is a step backward. Interior is OK except for the weird cyclops vent in the middle of the dash. It's marketed as more "outdoorsy" but it's not -- just look at the wheels, which don't belong anywhere near gravel or dirt.
In my case it was due to height. I bumped my head getting in a CX-50 and did not getting in a CX-5. Otherwise, either model would work just fine.
The ride is also less harsh in the CX5 and it doesn't feel as heavy when driving vs the CX50.
They need to move the cupholders
to be completely honest, the difference between this and the ‘23 is not that noticeable besides the new trim level. Would’ve liked a full digital display and just to compete with other cars, changeable ambient lighting.
This video is BS as there were few changes beside the standard Istart/stop and $1,250 price increase, both of which no one wants. But I guess they have to add fluff to make that YT video sweet spot of a 25 minute video.
How come nobody mentions cylinder deactivation and start stop.?
The 2023, which I own, does not have start stop for which I am glad. i-stop and more tech does not make an automobile I would care to own.
The Turbo model does not have auto start/stop. The regular 2.5 models have a revised version for 2024.
Maybe because it's not an issue. My wife and I just took delivery of a 24 CX5. The I stop is so smooth you don't even know it's working unless you watch the tach. There is a button to turn off I stop. Or you can disable I stop. I pulled the hood release and drove up and down the street. I stop didn't work with the hood released. This means you can unplug the hood sensor and I stop won't work. I haven't yet because the wife doesn't want me to mess with "her" new car.
Why can't the Signature trim offer BLACK Nappa? It's ONLY brown once again. Ugh :-(
Wife here. Looking for a No CVT vehicle . I’m quite short anyone out there input on visually driving . Looking at 2023 base Cx5 or Cx30 want small and cheaper . No turbo . Thanks
Unfortunately, like other manufacturers they are making the cars more expensive. No base model anymore. The changes are minor and cosmetic (new Carbon turbo trim level, really?) the touchscreen "enhancement" is adding touchscreen capabilities with Apple and Android, which any manufacturer but Mazda has had for years. Last year for the current gen, Mazda announced next year all new CX-5.
@@BobBark Where is the S model? That is right - discontinued. Their new "base" model is about $3000 more expensive.
Did they?
@@gnarl12 Yes. If you look at the 2023 cars, there is still the S model. For 2024 it was removed.
Yes really. I would have got the turbo Carbon last year if they had it. Looks way better than the signature and has enough features. But I ended up with the signature and have a little more car than I need. So yes this would have saved me money and I would not have had to compromise to get exactly what I wanted.
@@smoke05s Understand your view. The carbon has blackout trim essentially and some like that - which I get. Not for me worth it to pay more most likely. Will probably buy one myself this upcoming year before the new model comes out. This should last a very long time.
