The irony that songs were ranked lower for having sad vibes, yet your #1 is On Melancholy Hill
To be fair melancholy hill didn’t strike me as sad and more as a laid back chill tune with a happy chill undertone. I agree with the top picks but I didn’t watch the vid cus I don’t have time for that I just skimmed but most are saying he ranked songs lower for being sad. I agree I don’t really like sad amongst. I like slow slings but not sad outright. Unless I’m going through something I never listen to them, that’s why desole and humility are in my top 3. Gorillaz has alot of good sad/ slow songs that aren’t for me. Ranking them lower just for that imo seems shallow. It’s his opinions and for the top 10ish I agree with his picks but I can admit that rock the house and maybe something like tomorrow comes today are good songs but they are either not my kind of Rhythm or are slow. But I do have to disagree with melancholy hill being sad. It was just slow and chill, but music is subjective after all.
@@shinymew1213 I massively disagree. It’s got a forced happiness in the back. The lyrics depict a very naïve and desperate reach to feel content and wanted. “Well you can’t get what you want, but you can get me.” It’s like someone realizes they can’t be the person they love’s #1 but let’s them know it’s okay to be their backup. I love it because it’s real and raw but also sad.
@@BlueRupees to me gorillaz has never been the most inspirational and deep lyrical musician group. I think their melodys and musical tracks are what make them shine, in songs like Pac-Man and humility for my first few listens I couldn’t even understand them, I always have to listen quite a few times to get the song right, and even for something like Aries I had no idea they were saying high and low tide, always thought it was “party’s on” or something like that. Even for momentary bliss. These songs work because even though the lyrics aren’t decipherable all the time they still sound good and fill that lyrical hole to make the melody work. Now for melancholy hill, that song isn’t really hard to understand but I feel like the music video makes the song much more enjoyable. Whenever I listen to it I picture that, just a group of people traveling underwater and stuff. If you don’t like it for it’s bland lyrics I can totally get that, to me cheese lyrics can ruin even the most banger of songs with awesome tracks but I think the mood I’m in when I hear melencholy hill is relaxed and chill and it just gets me in a good peaceful mood, I barely pay attention to tone lyrics, in fact there are barely any lyrics at all, I’d say most are just repeated and just there to kind of put some texture to the music to make it feel like your reminiscing or listening underwater
I mean it is kinda sad that noodle got lost in the middle of the ocean with Russel and got replaced by a robot

The biggest crime of this list is that D-sides isn't part of the ranking, because some of Gorillaz best songs are on that album (though he'd probably trash on Hong Kong cause it's "long and sad")

Humility is definitely my favorite Gorillaz song of all time. Mostly due to the lyrics, the video, the chill groove it has throughout and it came at one of my lowest points in life. It has remained my number 1 since it's release but man Gorillaz has a lot of bangers. Thank you for this list as it reminded me of a lot of the more underappreciated songs in their catalog like Detroit
Melancholy hill is a masterpiece, this song bring me many feeling at the same time, just amazing
The fact that you put both of my favourite gorillaz tracks next to eachother at 44 & 43 and put a mid tier track right after boiled my blood but most of this was good
To each their own but if we’re being real, this list is questionable(especially the idea of docking points if it’s sad????)
Many of the songs you put at the bottom of the barrel (Amarillo, Out of Body, Ticker Tape) are songs that I absolutely love. And putting Melancholy Hill at #1 is the most basic take ever. It's a good song but I probably wouldn't even put it in my top 10. It's not even the best song on Plastic Beach.

I remember as a kid hearing Feel Good Inc. on the radio, I didn’t understand the lyrics or the meaning, but I loved it, and I’d be so happy when it came on, and then I realized I was bopping my head to a song about cheap thrills and escapism.
