Get ready we’re doing a little bit of everything in this classic episode of The Electric Playground!
We’re peering into the future of video games as Victor Lucas and Tommy Tallarico take a trip to SegaSoft’s Heat.Net and chat with Sarah Mason about Heat’s vision to get people playing games online. We also meet Heat’s president, Garry Griffiths, and Net Fighter producer and Sega vet, Erik Wahlberg. Even in 1997 Heat’s engineers were working on addressing lag in online fighting games on primitive low-bandwidth modems. And they were also looking at the permanence and inherent value of collectible digital objects-NFTs in the 90’s! Incredible!
Then Victor visits Crystal Dynamics to speak with Jeff Zwelling, producer of Gex: Enter The Gecko and we get the scoop on this ambitious amphibian’s sequel game. Next up Vic chats with Zak Krefting, the lead designer of Pandemonium 2 and we learn about how the game improves on the trippy original.
After the break EP Secret Agent, Kelly Benson hits the streets to dig up info on Nintendo’s Mario franchise. And then EP heads Nintendo of America and catches up with Nintendo Super Agent, Alan Belardinelli who tours us through the sensational Nintendo Museum at the facility. It’s very cool to showcase this 1997 perspective of a company’s already incredible achievements knowing how much Nintendo has accomplished since.
When we come back from the break we hear from EP’s Roger Earl as he lets know what Mario’s last name is!
In Reviews on the Run we look at:
Treasures of the Deep for PlayStation
Tetrisphere for Nintendo 64
Star Wars Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II for PC
Oddworld: Abe’s Oddysee for PlayStation

Damn NFT's in games were being talked about in 1997!
Vic and EP. You deserve a million subs years ago. Thanks for following through with your passion and being a friend of ours for so long.
Thanks for your years of support!!!
Wow. They were predicting where games have gone today. But I still don't think they could have imagined how online gaming would turn out today. It's great seeing these episodes. True time capsules
This really makes my Saturday morning better
☕️
18:14 Vic just brought this dude out on a dolly. I guess he was just back there in the storage locker😂
Feeling old again but also full of joy.
I’m enjoying these EP episodes! I never missed an episode back in the day, I had my VCR set to record.
Eating cereal and watching EP right now 👌
That life size gameboy kiosk is my holy grail

That online game thing seems like it could be huge
It’s just a fad.
Seeing those old VR systems was really cool.

Thanks for another great episode Vic.
Ok, that was a serotonin hit!
2:15 Apple Vision just feels like a huge step backwards. We already reached peak VR in 97!😏😎
Awesomeness classic ep please do more thanks ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Love it! How many episodes are there in total of electronic playground?
Love seeing their review of tetrisphere. That game was so forgettable but the music is amazing.
Damn. Another example of Sega being ahead of their time.
More classics stuff! Is the Nintendo museum still a thing?
nft in 1997 lol
I just noticed the 4:3 aspect ratio. Were the other videos like that too?
The grandpa of rollback netcode LOL
4:41 is literally nfts.
Is there a reason you had to take these down and re upload them? I had them in a playlists for years 😢. Here’s to hoping we get more seasons this time around.
We’re celebrating them each week with a little more love and promo and better versions at 4K60 in the correct aspect ratio. We put up previous seasons a little haphazardly. Now every week = a new classic episode. Hope you join us for the premieres on Saturdays at 9am PT / noon ET. And feel free to share with your friends. :)
@@EPN thank you for replying. Hope to see some of the stuff past the ones you previously uploaded, but maybe it’s a rights issue? Not sure but either way I’m here for it!
@@EPN The one gripe I have is it's not _true_ 60FPS; keeping in mind there are still ways to PROPERLY preserve all 60 fields (There's even tutorials how to do it). But the Nostalgia alone makes that not quite an issue in my mind! :D
