I like Parlour, real Arsenal. But he was off the mark here as Arsenal were bang to rights and the Van Nistelrooy incident heralded the rise to make history. First of all, it showed just how Arsenal moved as a unit, were strong, firm, and still had some of the mid to late 80s Arsenal in them. Keane wanted none of it with them here, and in '89 Rocastle, Davis, Adams and the rest stuck it on McClair, Hughes, Erwin and dem. The 'Invincibes' Arsenal were a far cry from modern Arsenal, they've totally lost it now in terms of their heritage, philosophy and strength.

@@davyjones-locker979 it’s all Wenger’s fault, he was trying to fix a problem that didn’t exist. If he stuck with the grit and tenacity of those teams he built before. Arsenal wouldn’t have fallen so far behind but as the saying goes there’s a lot of clarity in hindsight.

@@montanaprime i knew when arsenal engaged a man who managed to loose with a brilliant monaco side against a dire bremen sidein a european final that he would be the wrong man for the arsenal. he changed slowly butgradually the whole adn of the club...and definitely for the worse. his early wins related on the famous arsenal team spirit build under george graham added by the buy of, in fairness three good players, in vieira, petit and overmars.
but he had no clue of defense at all. it started all in the 1998 season. when alex manninger came in for the big yorkshire man,he was better and never ever should have been replaced again. first big big mistake...and it continued endlessly after that one. but hey...it's history.

I remember watching that penalty live in "The Kings Head" (Balham, South London) like it was yesterday 😳. Back then when it was fun, to go down the pub and watch Arsenal vs ManU.
It's a cliche, but today's kids will never get it. This rivalry, was a CULTURAL EVENT!!!. Didn't matter whether it was a meaningless pesky cup, first round tie. They both fielded their strongest teams and absolutely went for it. We all usually went down the pub (regardless of whether it was on a rainy Wednesday night) to watch the game. Then at half-time, you'd put money in the jukebox (pint in hand), pick a few songs, then have a quick game of pool on the small green table, before the second half started 😍.
Oh those were the fun days, before we all grew old and cynical, and got weighed down with the weight of the world, on our shoulders! 😢

Parlour was like Robbie Savage he'd start a fight get slapped then run to the Referee,I was there that day yet even though Martin Keown was taking care of Van Nistlerooy Parlour had to get himself involved by slapping Van Nistlerooy in the stomach then when Keane walked over Parlour stood next to Patrick Viera as he's an absolute Coward I'd have loved to see Keown and Parlour if the Penalty taker was " Big Duncan Ferguson " ? Parlour would still be looking for his Teeth 🤣😂🇾🇪🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿
