- Hello and Welcome to epsiode 62 of Trash to Track.
In this episode we take a look at a Heljan Garratt 2-6-0-0-6-2 loco. This huge loco is in need of some TLC and proved to be particularly troublesome. Lets take a look and see if we can resurrect this loco back into service.
Thanks for looking.

This loco was sent to me on February! To my shame It was sent back in July. I lost enthusiasm with it due to the poor nature of its construction. I was so pleased when it ran for the first time!
10 out of 10 for perseverance. I'd have binned it long ago. Excellent presentation.
I thought the Big Boy repair was epic, but this one was EPIC ++!
You did a Car SOS-type job on it.
Fascinating viewing, sir.
Annother great 'how to' Dan!! Many thanks for sharing. Cheers Onno.
I have to take my hat off to you for your tenacity to tackle such a terribly made model, in such an awful state. Well done. I wonder how long it will last though as your repairs are probably the only reliable parts to it.
I would of lost my temper with that one 😂
I admire your patience Dan. Heljan=Snapped together RUBBISH!
full marks for taking on one of those car crashes. you might get snowed-under with them after people see this😁
You've got more patience than me. That would have have been launched long before now.
Great job, well done 😊
I seem to remember that when this model first came out the critics were underwhelmed in relation to the quality and the high price. Some years on and you are seeing the result.
My first one slowly disintegrated and like a fool I bought a second one! Which has been put back in its box because it looks as if it too will slowly die. Worst models I have ever had in 60 years in the hobby. I am amazed stockists actually are willing to sell them. I have a Night Owl which looks magnificent but has all the same running issues as the Garrets. I did not buy a Tango!!! Thanks for the video however. Tim
In have one of these. Ran it for half an hour and one motor died. Spoke to Hattons, they said speak to Heljian, emailed Heljian a few times and never got a response. Expensive garbage, and an expensive lesson.
Hmm - I was thinking of getting one of those but I think I'll give it a miss now. Very good work getting that thing running again, it looked a bit of a write-off at the start.... as other ppl have said, you must have the patience of a saint, I'll bet that's been launched before lol
exellent repair bein truthfull my pationce threshold would have been tested i dont think i could have done it all those bits well done definatly not worth the money new
The only action that POS deserved is sending it back to the shop... What a disaster
a job well done - I admire your patience. Was this garret dropped hence all the damage?
With fractured wheel centers it could have been caused by a bent pickup...
