Can you please adopt me?? What a wonderful family you have, love the way everyone was in on it and passing down such a beautiful tradition!! LOVE THIS!!!
This brought back memories of making apple butter as a kid. The traditional way.
As a contractor and having worked on a project at the Domino's Sugar plant here in Baltimore, I can tell you there is no difference in the sugar packaged in the Domino's bag and any of the others. All sugar in your area will come from the same plant regardless of the packaging. Save the money and buy the cheapest, it's the same sugar.
Omg I remember apple butter from little house on the prairie!! It sounds so delicious 😋
Frankie McGill it is!!! I make mine also....I did a CZcams video on it also...but a crock pot size...and it’s great for gift giving and so super easy to make!
David,
Thank You so much for showing the city folks how to make real apple butter the old county way. David again Thank You.
Richard
I have been making apple butter for many years. Real apple butter does not require sugar and uses cider as a sweetner. Historically, in the 19th and 18th centuries, sugar was very expensive and not used in traditional recipes.
That’s a ridiculous comment. Define real. Using a different method or recipe does not relegate something to not being real. We used to fight fire with buckets of water. So now that we use a hose it’s no longer real? Using cider to start your apple butter only increases the cook time. Cider is no sweeter than the apples it was made from unless it was sweetened with sugar or corn syrup. I’ve been making apple butter for almost 50 years and never once put a drop of cider in it.
I agree. Also, I have seen that many people add the red hots, but it contains red dye #40. I just read that is not legal in 86 countries, as it is a carcinogen. Not trying to be Debbie downer, but added sugar and red dye, not a good combo:/. I am however very impressed with their achievement and team work.
oh its so good yummy in my tummy
Hard work. Looked like a fun day. Family time. Thanks for sharing.
That was the most interesting video I've ever seen !!!! Thank you for sharing !!! I've never seen that done !!!
What a wonderful tradition! It looks amazing and I love the old paddle for stirring.
Great way to spend a day with family and friends, would love to have been there! Everyone is having a good time hanging out to stir the pot and get their share, nice. Have wanted to get together for a community can-in but it doesn't happen where we are. I could try to make it happen but best if I plant the seed with someone else, lol. Absolutley love the kettle and stand, thanks for showing us how to!
Very interesting! I love traditions.
I'm becoming insulin resistant just watching this.
I make mine without sugar or anything else, and I think it's plenty sweet.
It looks so delicious!!!
I remember making apple butter a few times in my life but we didn't start working sauce... We started; picking the apples, peeling them for days before they ever went into the pot. It's a lot of hard work but great get together.
This looks so fun and delicious🍎🍏🥧😋
Thanks for posting this! I watched the entire thing & felt like I was apart of the family too! 💕 Your family reminds me of mine. Almost made me cry! New subbie! Keep posting! Love the family vids.
Love the recipe!
That was outstanding Dave!! 👍😀
This was very cool to see. Thanks for taking the time to video the process and post it. I've never seen apple butter made before.
What a great tradition!!! Nice smoker!!! Love my game day!!! :-)
No one is playing or wachting there mobile. 👍🏻👍🏻
God bless Nana...
I love it! There's a place here in Missouri called Mt Vernon, every year they have a Apple Butter Makin Days so watching this is fun. I helped my friend at one of her stands for the 3 days, I forgot to get Apple butter hahahhaa... Im using my husbands account here on youtube , we like your videos thank you, we also are beekeepers. . This is a treat to see thanks for the Video. Fun fun fun
Apple Butter is THE *BEST STUFF!* : )
When do get to sample that on a piece of fresh baked bread and butter? Great stuff. Thanks for sharing your day with us.
I bet that smelled so good
Woow!
Cool video David! Lots of work, but very rewarding. See you on the 23rd
Hello from the UK
So just curious why you use red hots instead of just more cinnamon. For the color? I never cared for using candy in mine as it adds wax and artificial dyes. We just use cinnamon oil
And we also add allspice into ours.
Interesting.
David now you’ve done it,! Now your gonna have to start a channel showing the old way of making or processing food, everything from grinding corn to butchering hogs! My wife do a lot of canning, and I’m sure some of the younger generation as well as older would enjoy seeing the process! Great video! Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family!
This is great! How many gallons is that kettle you guys use? That thing is beautiful.
I use the same oils for baking... the cherry is my favourite, to be honest...
So when did you put all the butter in lol?
(City boy learns something every day)
It's nice to do it together as a group, I think it makes it so much more enjoyable. Great video thanks for sharing. Question you just bottle it then it seals? No need to water bath? How long does it keep this way?
You have that fancy machine to mash the apples, now you need a fancy machine to do the stirring
Ray S thats what i was thinking
Dibs on licking the bowl!!!!
Have to try this, but 7 bushels is a little too much for us, lol.
Great stuff David, thanks for posting!
Pilot McBride I did a small batch with a crock pot if you are interested...I have it on my CZcams channel under apple harvest time. Might help you if you wanted to make some
Thank you @@tinyfemaleshooter8756 I'll check it out.
Pilot McBride no problem!
Good video David. I help make molasses here in NC.
Thanks for sharing! What a neat tradition you've got and kept going!! ;] I have a couple of questions, just out of curiosity...... do the jars get sealed due to the heat or? And big questions... why Dominos? Why do you like it so well? Again thanks for sharing. I totally appreciaate all the hard work that you all put into making it :)
Cool man. How much do you charge for 1 jar?
I agree Dave that Domino’s sugar is the best. I remember your Mom made delicious peanut brittle when we were kids. Do you happen to have Aunt Doris’s recipe?
@@davidhaught84 You will have to share that candy fun, too! Great video!
Is it spicy at all from the red hots? I don’t eat them so I wasn’t sure. Lol Great Video!
I see the hats and gloves are on. Whats it like 70 - 75 degrees down there?
Do you folks further water bath your apple butter? I watch videos and read info that say you need to. We never did.
I'm from the UK and never heard of it. What would you use it with?
It is good on bread and butter
We always used it like a jam or jelly
phillmcaverty yes...Steve is right...great on toast...or even pancakes....I also have a CZcams video on how to make apple butter....but in a crock pot size....and its very easy...
Thanks for the replies 🙂
Nothing wrong with putting it in a fresh home made biscuit !
Joe Denton oh yummy!!! Very true! 🤤😊
Wow....you do a lot of extra work....but I bet it still taste good....I just posted a video on my CZcams channel on my homemade apple butter...so yum!
Why is a copper kettle used?
You want either copper or stainless, its the cleanest metal that won't leach out contamination.
🍎
What kind of apples are you guys using. Have a good one Dave. Take care buddy. Buzz buzz
Eye 👁 of newt. Toe of frog 🐸. 🧟♀️
David, Basically you said 128 pints, that’s only 16 gallons, you said it was a 20 gallon pot and it was full, did the crew sample 4 gallons or was there a lot of spillage?
It cooks down. Just evaporates.
Can we eat some 🐝😀❤️
You're using about 1/3 of the sugar we use in our recipe which is 4 lbs per gallon...😳 We also start finalizing with a cup of cider vinegar per 8 gallons and pulling the heat down a little about 10 mins before the cinnamon and dip off.
That's cheating! I separate my pulp with an old chinois by hand. You're making me jealous.
You're supposed to sit in a rocking chair while you stir the pot!
It may be homemade. But ain't nothing about this is old-fashioned.
My moms name is renee
You forgot yeast.
Wow. You didn’t show the best part to the task. Running the home made around the kettle cleaning up the best tasting apple butter
Domino...tastes like slavery.
