The reason why the government of India doesn't talk to these environmentalists is because these environmentalists have a "my way or the highway" mentality and are least interested in any kind of a settlement and the government knows this very well. The only thing they finally achieve is to cause long delays and subsequent bloating of the project costs and hardship to the people.

Absolutely agree with you. A PMAY scheme building for poor ran into trouble because there was a small pond near the building to be built. Environmental activists went to Gujarat High Court and eventually the SC and the whole project got delayed by 5 years. The decision has only been given now. Who has lost? The people who were promised affordable housing, the municipal corporation which has to pay the families whose houses were razed.

Well put sir. As a Mumbai resident directly impacted by metro works outside my house I'd like to share an anecdote about it's construction. Other than traditional Bombay city (Mahim to Nariman point), every part of the metro is being built over ground, on the roads. For a city with only 9% of it's land mass as roads (as you quoted) this means the metro won't get close to many hotspots where you can get off and say walk moderate distances (5-10 minutes, 300-500 mts) to your destination as you would abroad. Case in point is the airport road station which is at least 1km away from your terminal and not connected to the airport.
We're also building pillars on already crowded roads in suburban Bandra to Dahisar. Crucially, from Bandra to Andheri all of its overground on a congested road - SV road. Almost all of this stretch was underground in the original plan, the government changed and it's now all overground. Despite citizen protests, they weren't entertained.
Giant infrastructure projects like this need planning and thinking from a 100 year perspective as minimum. It seems like the government wants to build with brute force rather and bag the credit for building. And Mumbai as a city continues to get second grade treatment.

    • @voicification
      @voicification Před 2 lety +1

Wouldn’t overground make much more sense in a city like Mumbai - the rains are insane and I can imagine that all that water would just flood the trains. The pillars are not ideal but it seems like it is the best solution among those available.

      @waveaxis Před 2 lety

it is known as RAILWAYS. No EXPRESSWAY can compete with that.
For Mumbai, we can learn from other countries, like-
USA : additional lane does not fix traffic
      Tokyo/seul: metro system
      Europe: walking, cycle infrastructure
London: bus service and taxing private vehicles on the road.
Build metro ASAP and cycling infra.

Sekharji, let me introduce myself, Iam an engineer and an activist and have been worked towards trying to improve mumbai 's infrastructure. I have done more than 50 TV debates on various channels related to railways and infrastructure. I have also been a member of the accident commite which was consisting of MPs the Municipal commissioner of Mumbai, Kalyan & dombivali & GM central railway to look into the congestion issue in the rail network & solutions thereto . I have already made an extensive plan to solve the entire issue and a part of which concerning CBTC was sanctioned by Shri Piyush Goyal when he was the railway minister. I have already discussed the metro shed issue with CM Fadnavis in his earlier term and the gist of which is as under.
1)The Metro line 3 has a fundamental flaw, as metro lines are designed to connect a major residential area to a place of work (commercial office area , Industrial area or Market area), metro line 3 connects major office areas WITHOUT connection to a major residential area from which people travel to these office areas to work.
    2) metro line 3 connects to the international Airport without connection to the central and western railway somewhere near it's centre point.
I had suggested some design changes
    1) That the Colaba end of the metroline 3 be connected with a below sea tunnel (8.2 km) to Mora Gao in Uran and a car shed be created there.
    2) That an above ground line using the railway land be used to further connect this line to the proposed new international airport and then further to Panvel station.
The advantage this would give is a major new residential area can be thus created of about 200 Sq km partly solving mumbai's huge housing problem and which would change the shape of Mumbai from a narrow V to a semicircle.
This would also serve as an airport line connecting the two airports and it's three terminals
Also it would be very cost effective as the on ground line costs 30 cr/km compared to an elevated or underground line which would cost between 500 to a 1000cr/km in Mumbai.
I was told at that point by fadnavis ji that the Navy might not give permission for this tunnel which I believe needs to be resolved if Mumbai has to ever compete.with Shanghai in terms of infrastructure.
    Ketan goradia.

A day’s delay in this project would cost ₹4.3 crores.
Now for a fun fact -
The entire Royal Palms project , which includes a golf course, is sandwiched between Sanjay Gandhi National Park and Aarey Milk Colony,
Also , the entire Film City is practically an encroachment of Sanjay Gandhi National Park. And if you compare old and new satellite images of film city , you will see how many trees have been cut to make way for studios and sets.
Both of these are much bigger than Metro Car-shed.
But none of the NGO brigade and activists protested against Royal Palms and Film Industry.
Also , most Bollymorons who travel in big diesel guzzling SUVs even when they are travelling alone and sometimes even use private jets are suddenly pretending to care for environment.
Do not bother about them. As these celebrities have a much higher carbon footprint lifestyle than common Mumbaikars.
Do not fall for these hypocrites’ propaganda.
If they indeed care about trees , first thing these celebs should do is lobby with production houses and get them to collectively return more than 30 hectares of their land to the state government for afforestation.
Not many celebs would use the metro to travel to film city and events , despite the fact that it would be possible for them to do so from Bandra ,Juhu as well as Lokhandwala once the metro network comes up.
Any stalling of Line 3 metro work would have a huge negative impact on several other infrastructure projects. Do not allow this.

Sir I respect your view… but if the car is done it’s good but I will tell uh the mumbai will be more polluted as the same as the the Delhi coz this will straighten way give the entry for having their projects into the arey … Do once visit the land before your view but if uh have and alternate option it’s better to have a option rather than taking this land

Delhi pollution is not due to vehicles. it is a myth. Delhi already has more EV rickshaws and scooters compared to all other metro. The pollution comes from migrants using substandard fuel, such as paper, cow dung, etc, which emits a lot of ash. If you look at Delhi particulate emissions, it is mostly ash and quite less of SOX and NOX than before.
