- Praful Patel is a Rajya Sabha MP, former Union Aviation Minister, and the working president of the NCP. He is also a former president of the All India Football Federation and also served as a member of the FIFA Council. Patel inherited his passion for politics from his father Manoharbhai Patel, who was a senior leader of the Congress in Maharashtra.
In the latest episode of the ANI Podcast with Smita Prakash, Praful Patel sheds light on the exact reason behind the split of the NCP, and whether Sharad Pawar was aware of or in the dark about Ajit Pawar's swearing-in ceremonies in 2019 and 2023. Patel mentions PM Modi's vision and development projects and justifies Ajit Pawar's decision to join hands with the BJP.
Praful Patel also addresses his alleged involvement in the Air India leasing case, which was closed by the CBI eight months after he joined the NDA. He also responds to the opposition's jibe about the BJP being a "washing machine."
He also shares some untold stories behind the formation of the NCP and what led Sharad Pawar to break away from the Congress and form another party. He also shares stories about how Sharad Pawar was close to obtaining the top job in the country and blamed his indecisiveness for not achieving it. He asserts that the Gandhi Family would never trust Sharad Pawar and has backstabbed him many times.
Patel also takes on Uddhav Thackeray and claims that Raj Thackeray had the potential to take the Shiv Sena to greater heights had he not been a lazy politician.

I have seen and also met your dad in early 60s. I was 7 year old back then. I remember we called him Harsha Seth. When he was contesting from Gondia/Bhandara Seat, he came to our home, canvassing for himself and distributed us the batch of 'ek Joda Bail' symbol of Congress back then. He gave it to my father and asked him to vote for him. His old house was located right opposite Railway's Narrow Gauge Loco Shed. We resided in Civil Lines Railway colony. He wore a Gandhi Topi then. He also built a Hanuman Temple which was located next to our home. This must have been 1961 or 1962
I'm a Modi fan but hate that BJP got in people like Praful Patel, Ashok Chavan and Ajit Pawar into their team. BJP didn't need these vermin and would've won on their own.

Prafulbhai is really suave and sharp, and extremely intelligent....people forget that the big ticket modernisation of Bombay and Delhi airports, happened under his watch as the then Aviation Minister. Age is still on his side, and I guess he will have many more productive years as a successful politician......

It is cruel joke on former Air India employees by this corrupt man- they were made second class employees in their own company, some lost their jobs and livelihood, others were forced to quit and others were made to accept positions which were for lower in the merged organisation ( with Indian airlines) The aircraft orders, when he was a minister and kickback received, - evidence was found but so far no prosecution of this man .
Biggest failure of BJP government is failure to prosecute the people involved in buying far more than required number of aircrafts and merging two different airlines which were culturally and economically poles apart , destroying national airline etc
The current government has a duty to explain the sale of Air India to public, the loss incurred, the plight of ex-employees who are without agreed health care, pensions and other benefits.
It is a lesson how not to divest a government asset!
Hope this model is not followed in future divestment of public sectors

When Ajit Pawar made the switch, Praful Patel was prominently on news channels explaining the move. I could not help finding parallels with Sanjay Raut, who was the face of Shiv Sena before Eknath Shinde's coup. The difference is that Praful Patel is suave, sophisticated, and genial. This impression of mine from before stands vindicated in this conversation. Sanjay Raut should take notes.

Pl try to restrict upto an hour or so OR split/ telecast into two parts.
Praful comes across as a transactional but harmless, gentle politician. He is here and he was there!! But it is remarkable that he stuck to Pawars for such a long time!! He seems to be doing well in his own business but he effectively killed both Air India and Indian Airlines ( though he happily shifts the blame to Pranab da and adds one more item to Pranab's 'glorious legacy' !!) And he is doing fine in politics too- then and now!! 2. It seems grabbing some position is the objective in itself- like Pawar wanting to be the PM but what was his agenda? his capacity? his vision? Or just political maneuver and grab the chair? And as Modi says- if you do not get it, spoil it for others too!!! Wandering, unsatisfied soul.. 3. As regards Maharashtra politics, Smitha should know that Mumbai as economic powerhouse of the country, has nothing to do with the rest of Maharashtra. In fact, Maharashtra politicians have immensely benefitted from the income and other benefits Mumbai generates from there without being accountable for anything!!!
