    I don't like those grow bags, just my opinion. I won't have those, but I got those red containers like you and the blue ones from Lowes. Potatoes are in a big box. I drilled holes in all from the bottom and sides

    For assisting in watering pots to ensure they have needed water in containers I place a tube with holes in it into each pot ..I do this as I am filling pot with soil..the bottom of tube is sitting on about 4-5"of soil .I keep the tube full of water all the time..as the should dries around the tube water will leave the tube..ensuring soil is not dry from bottom of pot up ..Also I do not remove the water catch try on the bottom of pot so any excess water goes into it once lower 4-5" of soil is full of water when it is full, say like after a good rain excess will flow out ..also a good rain will replenish the water in the tube from excess in the soil after a really good rain....this method not only ensure pot always has enough water at all times from bottom to top but at same time not too much..when water goes down in tube and I have refilled tube to top of soil I then water the surface of soil wit a little water as it is always what dries out first..also when watering the surface it ensures Any dry fertilizer on that surface gets out into a firm that can be absorbed by plant..I have been using this method for years and have great success with it..a couple bonuses is my water bill during growing season was greatly reduced as well as the time ai spend watering..no more over watering or under watering worries ..fyi if I am going to fertilize with a water soluble fertilizer I let the tube get at least half empty and top water with the fertilizer water to ensure it gets into the soil below surface then refill the tube with water..I have not done it yet but am going to try filling tube with fertilizer water this year to see if it makes a difference

    Hi Pam and Everyone!
    I seeded all my containers two weeks ago and covered them in plastic for germination. Went to take a peek and one of the containers had a white film on top of the soil...since it's been overcast here, mildew had a chance to grow. I'm going to hit it up with hydrogen peroxide and stop watering until the top soil dries up. Watering is so critical but it can also kill your plants.

    • @TheScaredyCatGardener
      @TheScaredyCatGardener  Před 2 lety +2

      Yes! That covering provided just the right amount of heat and moisture for the mildew to form. I would uncover the plants too. Thanks Mari!

      I would have to let my plants go uncared for to show them limp. But if it happens I’ll be sure to show examples. Thanks!
