Hey ya'll, I'm Jess from Roots & Refuge Farm
Welcome to a place that feels like home. A small farm with a big family. We hope you'll pull up a chair, grab some coffee and visit awhile.
There was a time that all I wanted in the world was a little farm where I could raise my family and grow our food. Now, that is exactly what exists outside my door. In watching it unfold, a new dream was formed in my heart - to share this beautiful life with others and teach them the lessons we've learned along the way. Welcome to our journey, friend. I am so glad you're here.

Last summer my favorite thing to make was mint lemonade. I just took a big handful of fresh mint off the plant, steeped it in a small pot of water I brought to a boil for about 20 minutes. Put about half a cup of sugar, or whatever sweetener you like, in a gallon pitcher and strained the mint tea into it. Then squeeze about 4 lemons in, still using the strainer to catch the seeds. Seriously one of the best things I have drank in forever, so incredibly refreshing. I cant wait to try the basil tea you shared last year!
I added lemon balm to my lemonade which is so good
Interesting. Hubby does something weird like that on the outside stove. It is mostly related to deer hunting and making his own scent cover. I guess I can do the same for new tea.😂😊
this one really warmed my heart. i love seeing all the farm animals in the pasture. living their best lives.
Well Jess, I took your advice and went a lot wild in the garden this year. I planted wildflowers across the top of the hill. I’m so excited to see all the pollinators!! 🎉 I’m also happy to see you feeling better!!! ❤
There was something different in your energy in this video. So soft and relaxed. Totally felt the chamomile coming thru.
I've started growing Stevia for a sweetener. I love the taste, and it can be dried and added to whatever tea blend that you like it with. It grows easy as well.
Same here! And a little goes a long way so I don't need to grow every year. It's an annual where I am.
Grew it for the first time last year, and did not realize how sweet it actually was!! Used WAY too much my first time mixing up a drink. 😅 and a pretty easy grower too!
Thank you for such a peaceful calming vlog. It felt like chamomile tastes! I love mixing different herbs for teas. My favorite digestive tea is mint and sage. Very complex flavour that really settles a meal and settles heat in your gut.
what a wonderfully relaxing video. I enjoy all your videos, love getting the notification. But this one....this one wrapped me in a calming blanket. Thank you.
Jess you just radiate peace and contentment 💐🇨🇦
love you have your little helper helping you Kids and family is so important in the garden and love this topic
The most organic gardening; just you and your son. I love seeing children in the garden. 💕 Happy harvesting! 🌼
Your peacefulness is contagious in this video. Thank you for that...I needed it ❤.
The gentle afternoon sun and the sound of picking the chamomile is just magical. Thank you for this relaxing video. I want a flower tea now 😂
You are truly an inspiration, your farm is like a daydream of what I hope to one day achieve. Through your knowledge of the garden and your view on the importance of taking time to just enjoy the space you have created, you not only inspired me to become a gardener in 2019 but you have helped me through this journey. I am continually learning and still get a little squirmy around pests, but honestly, who doesn't?
This year I put two chairs in my garden and I take time every day to go out and sit for a few moments, my garden has become a sanctuary for me, a place to take time to forget the stresses of the "real world" and just enjoy the hummingbirds and butterflies and the beautiful colors of nature.
I can not thank you enough for sharing your life and the love of the garden with so many people.
I love looking back at the old house and look at the transformation of where you're at today very inspirational❤
I started growing chamomile in a container and they reseeded on the ground around the container. Every year I get more chamomile. 👍😁♥️
If you like the taste of anise, try a couple of anise hyssop leaves with the chamomile flowers. Also, don’t forget about sun tea- fill a jar with water and your tea leaves and set in the sun brew. Serve over ice if you wish.
Thank you for sharing your beautiful heart and life with us!
This is some of the most uplifting content on all of CZcams. Thank you, Jess.
Jess! This was such a great video! All the bird song in the background and hearing the sound of you picking the camomile with the sun glinting on the camomile, and you're cute outfit! The whole thing was just very soothing! I love this! I'm just giving you some feedback from my point of view. Fabulous!❤
This video made me feel peaceful and relaxed.
Thank you for sharing this little slice of life. God bless you and all that you do.
Your chamomile is so lovely! I just love making lemonade out of my lemon balm!
We are in Florida and dry our own orange peels.. I loveeeee orange peel with chamomile so much! Tulsi is a fav of mine too though.
I had to leave my garden behind last year due to finding a lot of mold in my home which I’m still sick from. Currently renting a nice house and I had to put in a small garden with a few raised beds and some grow bags. It’s not much this year but I’m happy to have something. I will also be so glad to have my garden back one day. 🤞
You are such a helpful inspiration! The first video I found was building the tunnels for verticals gardening- I built 8 of them this past weekend and already k ow it will be a game changer this season.
Thank you for sharing your wisdom!
My favorite thing about making my own sweet drink is that I can just add a hint of sweetness and it's so much more refreshing. And I can count the ingredients on one hand. First year growing holy basil!
I'm planting holy basil for the first time this year too. Here's to future lovely cups of tea!
Homemade teas and spices are the best investment! Can we get a photo a day update? Every-time I see you out with your camera I think, I hope she posts every single photo a day so we can scroll through the beauty and appreciate it with her 🥰 we love you, Jess!!!
I’m loving the amount of content you both are putting out right now, thank goodness for your garden ❤xx
The wind chimes are back! So much like the Arkansas garden "feeling" that we fell in love with! Watching the growth of that garden from the beginning was a healing balm for me... now this one is inspiring anticipation and hope... thank you Jess. Blessings on your day Kiddo!🥰🌻🐛💕
I truly felt those adorable snoot boops in my soul!
Wow I love that herb drying rack. I will definitely be getting something like that this year. Thanks for sharing, as always 💕
God Bless you all ❤🙏
I love your videos like this. Well I love all your videos but these are so claiming and peaceful for the spirit ❤️
This video felt so much like the old roots and refuge I fell in love with in 2019… ❤❤❤ like a breath of fresh air. All your content is so wonderful and gives me joy. I don’t know why this just gave me the old flames like remembering back when you fell in love. Must be the music or the new raised bed garden. Maybe just the beauty of the full circle information….I don’t know! but I’m so excited to watch it grow! And that mug❤ I can tell you are feeling it to!
I think it's seeing the pergola in the background makes it feel like that for me ❤
That was the sweetest “hi mom” ever
The sheep and cats, flowers, snoot boops! I want to be on my farm with my plants and animals, not in my daily incarceration called my job! I'm not to the point of being able to quit just yet, but I'm working and praying! Thank you for sharing your beautiful life!
Agreed on all counts!
It relaxed me today just watching you with your tea. Thanks! 🥰
Very peaceful and relaxing!! Thanks
The end with the animals sniffs and nose boops 🥺😍😍
Gosh I just love watching the beauty of life happen on your farm ❤
What a beautiful way to start my morning Jess! My chamomile isn’t blooming yet but oh I’m going to have sooo much! The farm animals were a relaxing bonus! Have a super blessed day my friend! I’m going to make myself a cup of my own chamomile tea! Simple pleasures are the blessings of life. ❤️🙏🌼🪴☕️
Thank you for sharing your simple act of making tea with us and the beautiful calming meditative gardening leading up to it.
This video was like a warm cup of camomile tea. So calm and relaxing. 😌
This video was so relaxing to watch. It was just what I needed. I’m heading to the cupboard to put together a tea of things I dried. 😊
The bird sounds at the beginning of this video are what life is about… 🥰🫶🏼
That was just like Jess at the old roots and refuge garden, you’ve got there so happy for you. It was a lovely video made me feel warm inside ❤
I gave a thumbs up before watching. I love the title "don't complicate your life"
Seeing this made my day. Thanks
So much beauty. I'm so grateful it's finally spring 🐝
13:02 adorable giggle 😄 thanks for the chamomile info, Jess. Can't wait to dry and use it this year.
I hope this year, you will get to eat the fruit of your labor, and it will taste sweeter and more flavorful than it's ever tasted!❤
Hello Ms. Jessica. This video really brought me back to your garden tours in Arkansas. I couldn't figure out why until I listened to the video again. It's those amazing windchimes. Something is so magical in hearing the sounds the wind can make. Love it. God bless your home.
The quiet peaceful end to a heartwarming day..🐮🐑🌼🫖❤
Thanks for the peace, Jess. I needed that today ✌🏻💕
The pop that comes when you pull a flower head reminds me of popping packing bubbles... lol.. I need chamomile in my garden!
I love this video on making herbal tea! Would love to see more like this!
I have chamomile growing in our garden for the first time ever, and I’m in love! I’m in the process of making a tea garden, and it’s so awesome.
You look so happy in your garden. I can see that it makes your heart sing.
My first batch of chamomile sprouted a couple days ago. They are so tiny and sweet and I cannot wait to see what fresh chamomile smells like. ❤ thank you for being an inspiration.
Always refreshing when I see you posted another video. It's just a raining snowy mess here in MI. God bless.
❤ I’ve got to agree with this feeling more like the old R&R farm.. maybe it’s because it’s more you and your artistic savvy touches in your garden .. which is stunning and swoon-worthy 😊 I’ve got 4 chamomile plants that overwintered in my 5b greenhouse. They are about 2” tall each in 3” pots receiving lots of TLC and encouragement. I love chamomile, but I’ve never grown it. I’m a big tea drinker, so I’ve added more herbals to make some of my own. I did try the basil tea you shared with us last year.. I used opal, lemon and sweet basil.. it was a delightfully refreshing! Can’t wait to make more this summer. Basil seeds where planted yesterday (inside🤪.. it is still cold here 😜) thank you for sharing your garden with us. I live vicariously thru you Jess ♥️
It's raining here in Oklahoma today, and when it does I usually get a migraine. You just provided one of your best relaxing meditating videos for me. My chamomile has came in beautifully and you are right the smell is so wonderful. I was thinking about it, and then seeing the beautiful animals (I just love animals) made me feel so good. Thank you and God Bless.
prayers lifted that your migraine releases 🕊️
Love your videos Jess ❤ Thank you for sharing!
Jess I am tucked up in bed Tuesday night and envy you. First for the tea which I can not drink because I am allergic to both ingredients but the second is sitting in that lovely spot in youf garden. You are looking so happy and peacefull. Enjoy❤
I needed that video, thank you for warming my heart and sharing with us.
Never would i have thought I'd be a regular herbal tea drinker. But, here we are. Im harvesting lots of chamomile and lemon balm at the moment, nurturing holy basil to get its start, and making tinctures and teas!
Thank you for helping open the door of knowledge to these blessings given to us. Growing your own is just a great feeling...and lots more economical.
Just seeing those flowers in that cute basket makes my heart sing 😍😍
This vlog warmed my heart...I truly enjoy your explanation of things and my heart enjoys the camera view from the ground...and being nose to nose with my spirit animal, cows, was a joy! I thank God for you...
“If you don’t like it, add more honey!” Yes!! 😂
What a peaceful video, I could just feel myself getting calm
This was one of my favorite ones. I needed this today.
Sounds like another book brewing!🥰
Very relaxing video, you are a joy to watch
Love the sights and sounds of your peaceful farm.
I love it’s all coming together - the beautiful beautiful dream into reality - fills me with inspiration! Love you girl and your Farmily!!!!❤❤❤
Thanks for sharing your calm farm moments. I yearn to be with nature everyday.
If ever I wished for smell-o-vision, today is the day! That felt so peaceful.
The calm of the farm at the end of the day…so peaceful. Such a blessing for your family.
That beautiful sound of fresh picking was a wonderful intro to this video! I loved it💗✌️
Jess, your videos are as relaxing as a warm cup of tea. And I feel like I'm learning so much from you. Thank you! ❤❤
Thank you for this video! 😊 I’m going full force into making teas from herbs/flowers that I grow and keep day dreaming about the days when it’s warm enough to plant out all my wonderful starts in the greenhouse. I’m using greenstalks in the greenhouse for my first planted up herb seedlings so they can go out into the garden a full level thick to make a larger patch.
This video was so needed. so calming and beautiful. Thank you! I grew two big rows of chamomile and calendula for the first time last year. I harvested weekly and it was one my most favorite garden tasks. soothing for the soul. I would bring my stool and sit and pick in silence watching the bees and the butterflies. I sure wish I would have known about the dryer you are using. Maybe this year. I used stackable cooling racks with a paper towel over them, but it took up a corner of my dining table for a long time. Homegrown chamomile is definitely more potent than store bought.
Loved this video. Very calming and relaxing. Yes, I can't wait till my garden here in Indiana is growing. Such a blessing to have a place to sit and be with God.
I just need a continuous loop of Daniels music while I work in the garden
Good morning from East Texas! No better way to start the morning than fresh homemade tea and BOOPS
It is so amazing to me the wavelengths we share. As you were talking about tea I was already making some of our family's favorite tea to have iced in the fridge. It's called ruby mist and then I add lemon juice and local honey. It is one of my son's favorites. I meant to have it done last night but I fell asleep because of all the lovely jobs in the garden I have been doing.
Keep sharing your awesome stories. They brighten my day and continue to inspire me.
Just beautiful Jess, flowers, your little gardener growind so fast, animals living wonderful life and a chear with you on it in your romantic garden. Hope you and fam having a lovely day!
Thank you for the up close with the animals!❤
Yes! A little researching by gardeners will point them to many other plants that are suitable for drying to make tea. I like making tea blends in my cup with an infuser. I also find wonderful tea blends made by others at Etsy. I like raspberry leaf & dried blueberries.
“If you don’t like it, add more honey.“ I see a bee+sunflower teacup or shirt in the future…. ❤️🌺
This video is stunning. Pure chamomile, both in harvest and in the energy you created. Gorgeous shots.
Goodness, that was relaxing, felt my shoulders drop and breathed a bit deeper. The tea, the cows and sheep and the cats all helped.
So peaceful watching you picking that chamomile with the birds singing in the background ❤ ✌️ ❤
I have to say, I have a love affair with your farm. I'm not ashamed of it, I just love it. The last five minutes or so of this vlog was absolutely lovely. Know that I love all your vlogs but completely loved the ending of this one. Thank you for sharing your life with us. xoxoxo
The shot with the cow, sheep, and cats in the grass with the buttercups was stunning. I think I need a print of that for my wall. 😀 That or get my own sheep, cow, and cats. lol
Success! This video is so blissfully chamomile I could smell it while you were harvesting it. Most years my best volunteer plants are milkweed & chamomile! I bought the device to harvest with. Inexpensive & you can harvest flower & seed pods easily. Best used by impatient, ADHD. type A, gardeners like me. ❤
Thank you for this today. Lost a family member to suicide last night. This reminder to sit and sip a comforting tea amongst the swirling chaos of a sudden loss is much needed. In comforting myself I can comfort others.
I’m so sorry for your loss
Spring is looking good on you😊! Thank you for all you do.
Drinking my chamomile and thinking this video is calling the refuge back into Roots and Refuge (feels like the old garden, again! So happy for you, Jess.).
Some people think it's gross, but being licked by a cow is great! That they get close enough to try it means they trust you. I love it.
Well this was just to most visually pleasing video ever 😍 I kept going “Ooooo so pretty!” Over and over
