Is the fabric not strong enough to put the posts far enough away to run it tight? Like if one were to do the math from the heights of pole and distance and place them for it to be run tight?

I think that "selling fear" often has a negative connotation, but fear serves a more complex role in human psychology and society at large. Fear-based content fulfills multiple psychological needs: it warns us, it reassures us, and it satisfies our curiosity about the unknown and the potential danger from a distance. However, you bring up a good point about all of that weighing on you, so we'll just have to wait and see how it plays out when we're older!

Her love for her plants reminds me so much of my Momma. I miss talking to her about our yard, flowers and hummingbirds!! I miss her so much!! Enjoy her every moment you can!! I also use shade cloth in my western Kansas garden, but it serves a dual purpose. Not only do we get super hot in the summer (103 as I write this) we also get violent summer storms with wind and hail. I have a variety of pipe and wood structures over my vegetable and cutting garden beds. Some stay covered all of the hot months, others I can cover at a moment’s notice if a storm is coming. I use inexpensive harbor freight shade tarps, which have help up for several years use now.

They make t-post caps that might work to make the top so not sharp against fabric

If you had a big storm coming, you could untie the 550 cords at the corners, push the cloth to the center posts (on the long sides) and wrap the cloth in cord. This way it wouldn't act as a sail at least. It will still get knocked around, but it might not get damaged anyway.

If you have to rethink the possibility of the posts cutting the clothe, try cutting a slit in a tennis ball and padding the posts.

That is a big piece of shade cloth! I farm in South Carolina and I assure you that if you are building a shade structure as large as what you have you would want to use a bunch of smaller shade cloths instead of a single large shade cloth. If you look at commercial shade structures they use many smaller shade cloths, not one large one. This is because a single gigantic shade cloth is like a massive sail.

Nice, although you should of squared everything bc you’re not that far off from just screening the whole area off…. Screened in areas do much better as no flying critters eat your saplings or fruit

I used old garden gloves and jist wired them on then wired the corners of the shade cloth over the post. Not pretty but cheap and does the job.

We have an open face pergola to hold the shade cloth. Love it. Can take the cloth off in winter.
