I miss Sherlock :( it was brilliant
I tried to remain faithful to the Jeremy Brett interpretation but I quickly grew to love the modern one too. They are both brilliant in their own universe.
IKR
In the new movie, Enola Holmes, i don´t like Sherlock, in this moment i realize that benedict is the best sherlock i have ever seen. I miss Sherlock too
:´v
IFKkR😥
There is some chance that it will come back, don't get too sad, don't lose hope.
Mark Gatiss was amazing as Mycroft. I loved every scene. But still the one in Buckingham palace was priceless!!! His quotes were just awesome and his voice is amazing.
The way he keep saying "the show ended in 2017" i just can't😢 gimme S5 pleaseee😭😭
As an American, I'm always surprised that British shows can have such a huge pop culture impact with so few episodes. I would never have guessed Sherlock only had 13 episodes. American TV shows go on forever, with hundreds of episodes sometimes, whether people like them or not.
@Meh it was generally 3 - 4 episodes (that were each one hour long) each series (so 13 would be about right) - this would make it a mini series.
Generally British series have less than twenty or thirty episodes, but a large amount of programmes can have as little as 6 - 10 episodes each series (British sitcoms are noted for doing this) - one notable programme that did this was the sitcom, Fawlty Towers (which over it's entire run, of just two series) had a combined total of only 12 episodes (6 episodes, each series).
There's a few reasons why British series are so short (but I won't go into detail about that, since I don't wanna bore you).
@@chrisneville4338 I would be cool with hearing it.
@@Humble197 Me too
@@Humble197
British series can be so short for many reasons, including:
1 : Smaller creative teams - it's much more common to see shows written by just one, two & occasionally three people (and so you generally get less episodes (per series) than you would with an American season) - you're obviously not going to get 25+ episodes from a small creative team (so series are naturally shorter).
And some times there may be instances where some of the stars of a series do the writing (for that entire series).
Examples of this would be:
1. Miranda - written by Miranda Hart
2. Fleabag - written by Phoebe Waller-Bridge
3. Gavin & Stacey - written by Ruth Jones and James Corden
4. Don't Forget the Driver - written by Toby Jones and Tim Crouch
5. The Cafe - written by Ralf Little and Michelle Terry
6. Detectorists - written by Mackenzie Crook
7. The Office (UK version) - written by actors Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant
8. The Royle Family - written (in part) by Caroline Aherne & Craig Cash (who wrote 25 episodes each, (from 1998 - 2012) including the entirety of series 3) & Ricky Tomlinson (7 episodes, from 1998 - 1999).
9. Everything Monty Python - written by all the Monty Python members.
However the above are not the only examples of this.
FYI: British soap operas, game shows, talk shows, and children's shows, do have loads of episodes however.
Plus when it's just a few people writing, you get a lot of material that's very quirky and personal.
Compare this to when you have a large team of people (which is common in the US) trying to write a series (especially comedy) - a lot of the unique little personal quirks can disappear (because there's a tendency for group work to lead to lots of compromise in an attempt to make everyone happy with the end result).
Plus you can often make more focused, unique & interesting episodes per series (with such short runs).
2: Smaller Budgets
- In the UK, a lot of television is funded via TV license instead of advertising.
Salaries and budgets are smaller across the board - which is why it's not uncommon to see many of the most popular or conventionally attractive British actors running off to Hollywood (if they are given the chance).
And even for shows that aren't funded by TV licenses, though, you're still looking at a smaller budget.
Why? A lot of it comes down to population.
The UK's population is a little over 65 million (compared to around 325 million in the US). Advertisers pay more to reach a bigger audience (and this obviously means a bigger budget when it comes to making TV shows).
However, as international distribution and revenue opportunities continue to grow, this may likely to be less of a factor.
3: Less Interest in Filler - If you watch a 20+ episode season of an American TV show, pay attention to what's happening in the episodes.
Nearly always, you'll find that only a fraction of the episodes contribute to the larger, overall plot.
Not every British show has a storyline that carries on from one episode to the next, but when they do, you don't typically see them “forget about it” for a few episodes and then come back to it later (which often happens in American shows).
Although it has to be said that, American TV has been changing in recent years (and there are more American shows than ever without filler episodes).
Another thing you'll notice about British shows is that you'll often hear interviews with writers and directors who say something like, “We'd reached the end, and we didn't want to overstay our welcome.”
British shows like Fleabag, Fawlty Towers, and The Good Life (which was known as Good Neighbors in the US) all ended because the creators felt it was a good place to stop.
British creators (based in the UK) will generally have ownership of a show broadcast on British TV (and it doesn't matter which channel it's broadcast on) - this means that their series will generally end when they want it to (unless they change their mind, and decide to make another series (or special episode) at a later date).
This is in contrast to the US, where it's relatively rare for writers to have any real ownership over their shows - and networks find it very hard to let a hit show stop.
US networks often keep going until it's almost painful to watch. You could have an entire team of writers who think it's time to put a show out of its misery, but if loads of people still want to see it, the network is going to get someone to make it happen.
4: Shorter Filming Seasons - The Brits often use their country's scenery in TV.
They have a massive creative network, and they film all over the place - from the seaside villages of Cornwall to the far northern Shetland Islands in Scotland.
It's a relatively small country, so it's not wildly expensive or logistically challenging (for them) to do that.
The UK does have some shows filmed in studios, but shows are more often than not filmed on location.
When you do a lot of filming on location, you're at the mercy of the weather.
Between the rain and the cold and the challenges of working with different locations and permissions, it makes a lot of sense to have fewer episodes per series.
5: Lengthy Episodes
- This isn't a factor for all British TV shows, but many dramas (especially mysteries) can sometimes have incredibly long episodes compared to American TV (which means less episodes need to be made).
In the US, most shows are either between 20 & 25 or 40 & 45 minutes long (I believe) and a lot more episodes are made - judging by the American shows that I have seen.
In the UK, there are more than a few shows that have 60 to 90 minute (& sometimes longer) episodes - these usually have a shorter amount of episodes.
Examples of this are:
1. Midsomer Murders - this show has lasted for 21 series (to date) episodes of this series run for anywhere from 89 minutes, up to 102 minutes (with each series having between 4 - 8 episodes).
2. Vera - this show has lasted for 10 series & 40 episodes (with an eleventh series (that will be six episodes long, I think?) set to air (in the UK) sometime in Autumn 2021 & later in 2022), and each episode generally runs for 90 minutes.
3. Dalziel and Pascoe - this show lasted for 11 series (from 1996 - 2007), with episodes running for anywhere from 60 up to 90 minutes (with each series having between 4 - 5 episodes).
@@chrisneville4338 That’s really cool, thanks for explaining and the examples. I guess these shows run more on quality over quantity than the ones in America.
The most iconic moment...Moriarty getting out of a helicopter and striking a Freddie Mercury pose while listening to Queen. Liked the show before this but LOVED it after. Second best was the scene where Sherlock is interviewing people for John and Mary's wedding and pops ofF with "I'm a high functioning sociopath...with your phone number." The look of dread in the other person and Sherlock's cheeky grin had me ROLLING!!
Love Sherlock, Amazing show, still watch to this day.
Just watched a few episodes with my daughter last week!
BBC's Sherlock has the best portrayal of the characters of Sherlock Holmes, Dr. John Watson, Mycroft Holmes, Mrs. Hudson, D.I. Lestrade, Irene Adler, and Moriarty. Don't get me wrong, I liked RDJ's and Jude Law's Sherlock Holmes (parts 1&2), but I really loved Ben and Martin's Sherlock and Dr. Watson. 💗 I also love Molly Hooper. ❤️
Not long enough ago for a where are they now? We know.Their all doing brilliant as they fully deserve.Bring back Sherlock!! 😀😀
"Sherlock cast: Where are they now?"
In my heart because I love them all 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭❤️
I love Benedict!
Sherlock is and will always be my favorite series.❤❤
The absolute BEST.
I love these videos because they make me feel better if I have a panic attack
0:36 that hurt deep.
we need a new season
Agreed
We gotta know what little Rosie is like, what the hell happen with Euris and for God sake, we gotta have more iconic Sherlock/Moriarty moments!!
Tbh not really. The last one was just crap
no, please...
I love Sherlock and I love all the seasons, but...the end of s4 was just perfect! Like everyone got the happy ending they deserved and...it was so heart touching.
But I would love to some spin-offs tho or something... like about Rosie, when she's a bit older (16 or so... it would be fun & relaxing with relatable teen stuff, YET Rosie being so much different - smarter and all).
...and I would love to know more about Moriarty, so...spin-off of him, please.
I'm here for Rupert Graves!
I'm still crying about Sherlock ending 😭
I love this series, I want another season
Patrick Melrose (2018) and Benedict Cumberbatch was absolutely incredible in it. It released around the same time as his Marvel stuff and the Grinch so it didn't get as much attention but it is an insanely good miniseries on Amazon Prime.
SEASON 5 ?!
Yes please!!!
Season 5 please, dear Mycroft
I miss Sherlock
hey! did you hear that gatiss and moffat are planning to release sherlock season 5 in late 2022 or early 2023? Since July of this year.
I´m from mexico and I´m depressed by the end of the series :v I hope they are not giving us false hope...
The both of them have always maintained that they would want to do more episodes but to schedule all of them is very hard. I think you might have heard something about 22 or 23 because benedict cumberbatch has nothing lined up as of now after the release of doctor strange 2 in 2022 , it is possible that they could schedule something after that. I wouldn't bet on it. I am hoping to hear something at least till 2025. But it's just wishful thinking.
@@sanguinemcorda4310 You are right that Benedict has nothing planned, also what they said are only hopes, but if you think about it, Benedict and Martin in an interview said that they did not want to say goodbye to those characters, most likely if they decide to do another season is sooner than we think. But again, it's just rumors. :´c
Are you serious?!!?!
"Mrs. Hudson leave Baker Street; England would fall."
R.I.P Una Stubbs
Rip Mrs Hudson :(
*IT'S 2020 AND I'M STILL WAITING FOR SEASON 5*
It ended? I had just gotten so use to waiting so long between series I thought in was just on hiatus.
Moriarty and Holmes are in 1917
I saw that!
Thank you.
Do top 10 best sherlocks

I knew Benedict Cumberbatch is number one
i knew freeman would be nr 2 xD

SEASON 5
PLS!!!!!!!!
Ay No! It's not yet officially end, we shall wait for season 5 we shall WAIT!!!
I want season 5 already 😭😭😭
7:52 a wild Joey Batey has been spotted ❤️
This is a terrible list. You didn’t mention Laura Pulver and left out a ton of Martin and Benedict’s roles
he spent the least amount of time on the important characters. No like from me.
That'd need more than 10 minutes 😂
I was going to watch this just for Lara Pulver xd
Who's sheerlock? I've heard of sher-lock.
And Pre -Sent Laughter?
Ss 5 please. Or just do a spin-off of Mycroft being all British-ish Government and big I-dont-do-emotion-except-all-the-time brother. I just love himm so much omg
Love Mark Gatiss
benedict always was and is a very great actor
If they DID release season 5, it wouldn't be filmed until late 2022 at the EARLIEST, as right now Ben is taking over the MCU in a BIG way, pretty much 3 of the biggest series/movies of the next 1.25 years either leading up to or including him in a major way, one being Dr Strange in the Multiverse of Madness in 2022 (and thats if it doesn't get pushed back even more from the pandemic). I know they did do some Sherlock really close to the first Dr.Strange (its why Sherlock suddenly went from string bean to a bit ripped, he was literally a Marvel superhero), but Ben himself has said he was doing way too much too fast at the time, and wanted to slow down in the future and space things out better.
I think it depends on what the MCU wants from him. Some are speculating he's going to be the 'replacement' for Tony Stark (replacement isn't the right word, but I can't think of the right word), which would mean he's basically locked in for a long time. He could do other things of course, RDJ did do other things while in the MCU, but it was never as good. Others think he's going to become an MCU villian, and they (with the exception of Loki) never last long, so who knows really.
I hope 5th season will start🙏🥺
the thumbnail has doctor strange but more peaceful vibes..
I bloody miss my Baker st boys
Random fact
The name for the shape of Pringles is called a Hyperbolic Paraboloid.

It’s Sherlock not shirlock. It’s Gay-tiss not Gatt-iss. Want to see some more? Of Sherlock, oh yes!
When is Series 5? 😭
Its like not so long ago?

I hate these American scripts read by a British voice. After hearing the third "PrumEAR" I had to abandon watching.
