Pure gold! Straight to the point, dead-on lesson with quick proofs on the fatwood you cut out of the stump. It was most helpful, and I just subscribed to your channel. Looking forward to seeing more of your instructional videos. Please keep up the good work!
Thank you Joe. That will be very helpful. Like I said, I can always find little pockets of it but I've never been able to find those nice big chunks like you seem to come up with. I really appreciate you taking the time to do this video.
Thanks for the vids! I just found my first fatwood stump today! I bent a shovel and wrestled it out. It is quite heavy for it's size. The information you gave helped me out a lot. THANKS! :)
Dusky Rooster Dee Anna When I find a old dead stump of cedar or pine to process as fat wood, I bring a tractor & log chain. Stump looses every time & I don't break a sweat nor soil my hands or cloths.
Beautiful example of fat wood in an old stump. Exactly what to look for where logging was done a long time ago. Only takes seeing 1 or 2, to develop an "eye" for spotting them from a distance. If it is close enough to your vehicle, use a full sized shovel & ax to get the most from the stump. Fairly plentiful around here, but where it isn't found often, well worth the effort to get the most you can from any stump you find. Thanks for sharing and answering the question. Chances are that you've answered it for a number of people.
Nice, I'll have to take a look next time I am out. I typically just use pine resin or a dead branch and get fatwood from that. I know the stumps are the best though! Thanks for sharing ;)-
Fat wood is great lighter. You might be in NC. Thats where I am and there are stumps in Pine forests here that are loaded with fat wood. Good Stuff. Thanks for the video.
+Keith Harten It all depends on your area. Here on my property, it's usually less then 2 or 3 minute search. A friend of mine that lives on the eastern part of the state can spend whole afternoons looking. As a general rule, the more yellow pine you have in your area, the better your chances are. Thanks!
Thanks for the post. Do you know of anyone in Northern California who has posted a "Finding Fat Wood" video? The best I can do is harvest pine sap and make my own.
Great stuff Joe, have only just come across your channel and have subscribed, looking forward to future videos from you. Have only just started posting videos myself from here in the UK so would be awesome for you to check that out if you have time. Till then wishing you a blessed week ahead ~Peace~
Thanks for the comments and input guys, I appreciate it greatly. I'm glad y'all found it helpful!

Great video. How hard is fatwood to find? How long/far do you have to look to find a stump like this?
Thanks again.

Nice!

Thanks for the info. I like birch bark,. It would rather use a fat stump than scarring a bitch tree.
Like and subscribe ! Thank for video !
I wish we had fat wood in Kansas. Instead we have buffalo chips.
Well, look on the bright side. I've seen folks use "chips" to transport a live coal to make a new fire elsewhere :)
Yep, I does have some advantages. I guess you have to adapt to the resources you have on hand and use them to their fullest.
