Hey Darryl, thanks for teaching us about fatwood at BOW retreat this weekend, I'm stoked to go for a hike and see if i can find some to harvest! This definitely takes my fire making skills up to a 10!
Looks like a pine forest...are you in the southeast of the state's somewhere? I live in a Douglas fir rain forest on Vancouver island in Canada and we get most our Fatwood from the Douglas fir up here. Mainly from that old growth stumps as well! Thanks so much for sharing this one with us and you got a new subscriber out of me! Stay awesome, safe and blessed my friend! Cheers, Kimmers and Jerbs #BEUP #DSKFS #neverquitquitting 👍🏼🇨🇦🔥🔪🔥🇨🇦👍🏼edit* learnt your in B.C. as well? We don't have many pines in our area so it neat to see you harvest it in the B.C. province!
In Germany we say „Kienspan“ for this. For Long Time i only know „Fatwood“ out of CZcams from amarican bushcraft guys. In Germany we havn‘t real bushcraft guy‘s in CZcams dont Know why Maybe here it‘s forbidden to do thins Like this. Every Forest is private.

Was just teaching someone this today. I'm always surprised how many people don't know these things 🤔 !
Because it’s not a common thing
I've been doing this since I was 4 . That makes 60 years and counting. Pretty basic stuff when I was younger !
This is where I get my best fatwood, from old Douglas fir stumps. They are everywhere here in the Northwest.
Nice I'm from kelowna bc Canada and find my fat wood in pine and fur stumps lots of fun

Here I sit, 54 years old, and retired. I'm eating my popcorn and just love watching people who believe in working harder, not smarter.
