The only questionable part about the ending (and yes I know without it, you don’t have an Act IV) is that the planet was set to be vaporized within minutes…if Ripley and Newt just walk away, then the Queen just dies anyway, without detaching and climbing aboard the Solaco.

Yes!! I read that in the novelisation of the film-I wish they had kept that scene as it shows that even after screwing everyone over Ripley still sees Burke and human as not deserving of the horrific Chestburster death. Similar to a deleted scene in Alien with Captain Dallas IIRC

      I completely agree...
I'm unable to come up with a title that isn't worse. I personally like the title "Aliens"... It communicates everything it needs to as minimally as possible. Which is why I'm curious as to why someone would hate it, and what their suggestion would be.
The only thing I could see being ok (though inferior) would be something keeping the title "Alien": __________ ... and inserting some adjectives/chapter titles e.t.c...
I.E. Star Wars: Return of the Jedi.
      Alien: Colony 432/Satellite 627
      Alien: Space Marines 1st Contact

    • @pauldavis6232
      @pauldavis6232 Před 2 lety +1

Thematically it works though. They are nameless workers who don't want to be there. They are there to do a job and that's it. Aliens are filled with obnoxious marines and they play their part well but it made sense for them to be bombastic and over the top as most if not all want to do shoot em up soldier work.

Anyone remember ‘Alien War’ at the Trocadero in London? Was based on this film - was absolutely amazing, as well as terrifying and utterly unsafe. People were falling up and down metal stairs, bumping into things and falling over as they ran away from the Xenomorphs. Also, true story: we asked to have a look at the Marine’s gun at the end and he said: “Ok, but if you pull the trigger I’ll punch you in the face.” Three kids handled the weapon, then it was my turn. I obviously pulled the trigger. The ‘Marine’ then punched me in the face... I was 12.

      Holy shit, username checks out.
That was literally hidden history in my memory right there.
YES, and no. YES I remember, but no, I've totally almost forgotten everything to do with it. D'ya know the sad thing too? We went through so many different phases and eras, one minute we were all collectors, then we were all chucking shit away to make room... only to fill it with more junk in the next era... and now? I think ALL THE TIME about really stupid stuff like (in this example) "I wish I'd never thrown away that souvenir/memorabilia". Almost every activity you ever did back then you'd for some reason end up with a high-gloss full colour brochure kinda thing... you mentioning Alien War has made me remember that I used to have one, but, like everything else, it got chucked in the bin.
Thinking back, I cant remember if my parents took me specifically FOR that, or if just so happened to be on when we visited. Man, my memory is shocking for 38 years old...

I love so many things about this movie, but two stand out: The thing I love about Burk's explanation of Ash being complete bullshit is: Ash was 100% following his programming priorities and Ripley knew it. The thing I love about the xenomorphs is, like enormous spiders, they're stealthy despite their size. It's what makes that scene with the vents so chilling: Hicks goes up and looks, and they're practically on top of them and they haven't made a single sound. Similar to the first time we see one in the first movie as it just silently descends in the background.
    They are fucking nightmare factories.

I think it's this one feeling less like a horror that makes me prefer both Alien and the Alien 3 Assembly Cut. Aliens is a great action film that happens to feature xenomorphs. 1 is a great horror, and 3 is a gloriously bleak but fitting ending to the story. Resurrection had some good ideas - xenomorphs swimming is a sight to behold - but was ultimately bleh.

I will say this of the aliens seeming underpowered in this one.
Basically the pulse rifles and smart guns fire explosive tipped armour piercing rounds.
A good example is Vasquez unloading a pistol clip into an alien at point blank and it takes 17 rounds to end it.
Same with hicks shotgun is literally shoved down it’s throat.
Basically regular arms fire would be like unloading into a video game enemy with high heath

I didn't really feel the tension so it just felt slow. Aliens however, scary imagery but bad ass scenes too plus I actually seeing Ripley simultaneously bad ass and paternal.
