  • I recently bought the Bumot luggage system and also found some rubber 'mats' to fit the top box and panniers on eBay and thinking this a good idea, bought all three.
    As an indulgence, I also bought the BIG 58 Litre Givi Trekker Outback Top Box and seeing my original Bumot luggage review and rubber mat fitting, the Company, Precision Rubbertech asked if they may send me a mat for the 58L Givi Box. This is the fitting of that mat. They also do mats for many other manufacturer's luggage systems.
    Precision Rubbertech Website (pannier protectors):
    pannierprotectors.com/
    Their eBay listing for my Bumot mats:
    www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Bumot-Defe...
    Hope you enjoy this video and maybe pick up the mats for your luggage?
    Nick
    Below are various links to kit I use or items referenced in this video.
    These are amazon.co.uk (United Kingdom) links and clicking through and purchasing does earn me a small commission and costs you nothing extra.
    I'd be really grateful if you are buying any of these if you used the links and help support the channel.
    Thank you

      @@nickhodgeUK Do you have to change the rack for the 2 types of top box each time you change them.

    • @nickhodgeUK
      @nickhodgeUK  Před 3 lety +1

      @@tonykisvardai2346 there’s a story behind this box as yet unused. The Bumot (my regular box) has a rack that simply bolts to the BMW framework. The Givi has two sidearms that bolt to the rack under the seat and a top plate that bolts to that and it’s own rack plate. I have fitted the side arms and they remain in the bike all the time (even with the Bumot rack on). If I want to change I have to unbolt the Bumot rack (8 bolts) and fit the Givi rack (8 bolts). So it’s about a 15 minute swap (16 bolts on/off). The real drawback is that with the Givi box on the Bumot lids won’t open by an annoying 5mm!!! You can just tip them off there mount slightly to open but that’s a pain. I’m looking to lift the Givi rack with spacers but that’s for another day. Givi were VERY unhelpful in this regard 👍🏻

    Hi there Nick. Merry Christmas! I am also called Nick and i come from Greece. I am hopefully getting a R1250GSA in the first days of 2021 and i am considering about buying this givi top case. Could you possibly share your experience about the bike's handling and how it is affected by this large box? And how delicate you consider this topcase to be regarding scratches and everyday use? Thank you very much in advance.

    • @nickhodgeUK
      @nickhodgeUK  Před 3 lety +1

      Hi Nick. In truth I’ve not really used it. It is on the bike now and huge. Obviously the weight in any of these shouldn’t exceed 10kg anyhow so if you stick with that weight then everything will be similar. The weight is probably lighter than the Bumot I use regularly as it is nowhere near as well built as the Bumot box. Obviously weight low is preferable but with the huge low weight of the boxer engine you have a very good starting point to add weight high up. I don’t think I’ll use it much (mainly as the Bumot pannier lads snag the Givi box)

  • @paulmcguire3034
    @paulmcguire3034 Před 2 lety +1

    Nick just came across your great videos, when you use the 58L trekker outback top box can you still access the bumot panniers OK as the lids open from inside to out ?, as I'm thinking of purchasing a GSA and like the fact bumot fits straight to BMW racks but I would like to fit the 58L givi also

    • @nickhodgeUK
      @nickhodgeUK  Před 2 lety +1

      Hi Paul. Not quite by about 5mm. Here are your choices
      1) release the pannier and tip it slightly of its mount to lift lid (not as bad as it sounds)
      2) mount the Givi topbox plate on 10mm spacers to lift it and give clearance. That does lift weight higher which is not ideal
      NOTE: I’ve now done 3 week-long single-person trips and not needed it. I pack panniers carefully and put soft stuff in Bumot topbox. That takes a full-size helmet with soft stuff packed around so you can leave it while walking. That Givi is huge when fitted too

      @nickhodgeUK  Před 3 lety

      I’ll look at that Michael and see what I can do. I can confirm the lids of the Bumot panniers JUST won’t open fully with the big Givi box. You either need to remove it or unlatch the pannier and tip it a few millimetres

    • @nickhodgeUK
      @nickhodgeUK  Před 3 lety

      @@apoamerica No it's only just. I will take a look at a solution, just really needs a stack of washers (5mm) on each mounting point and it'd lift the box high enough to clear. In crude 'technical' terms it's a 'gnat's cock'
