@Coltrane Taylor I had the mom and dad, the vet told me when they were born (5 girls) I had to keep them in a cage with all sides covered to the point a leg or arm couldn't get out. The male will kill the puppies to cause the female to go into heat again so he can mate. She was just doing what instinct told her to do. My Dachshunds were older than this before I let him get anywhere near them. The mom dutifully stayed 24-7 in the cage with the puppies until they were weaned and able to walk on their own, about 2 months. This was a breeder, stud situation, mine were I had male and female as pets. Don't ever have puppies unless you plan to keep one for the mom because they grieve and whine for a long time if you don't. I kept one and my daughter kept another so my mom had two of her girls to love.
@@sherrieadams1253 I can see from the behaviour of many male dogs that they aren't about to kill their pups. A lot of vets and experts give out generalized advice. I think they should only single only dogs that would actually do such harm, not classify the male of the species as pup killers.

Precious little babies... I'd be wary about showing them to him so young though, but not because he'd do anything; I think it stresses the mother too much. Have something that the babies and mother can sleep with that can be taken out and he's allowed to smell might be better. When they're a bit of more mobile and have their eyes open then introductions could begin.
Ernie doesn't seem all that interested in his offspring.

That’s something that should never happen to a dachshund. Dachshunds are intelligent dogs and learn quickly and love to be respected rewarded praised whenever they do something that you have asked them to do
