Dinuguan does't look appetizing because of it's color, but once you tasted it, you get addicted. It's level 3 for foreigners. Adobo is level 1. Sinigang, it's peculiar at first coz of its tamarind sour taste but your next sip and bite of its tender pork belly, you'll get hooked.
So glad you enjoyed one of our native dishes. You might want to try eating it over the rice to cut the down on the saltiness a bit. For the longest time , I thought it was a Filipino exclusive dish. The Greeks, specifically the Spartans, had a very similar dish cooked with the same ingredients.
Just like other dishes, dinuguan does have vinegar in it thus will not spoil immediately. I believe vinegar was initially incorporated into dishes to avoid spoilage especially since we are tropical country. Talking about the dinuguan, it is also great to tandem that with puto (not a bad word) which is somewhat a rice cake...but some Pinoys, like me, put this in between bread and pandesal. Same with other dishes like menudo and even pancit
I’m from Philippines; Dinuguan is one of my favorite food that I love to eat everyday. But here in the US I don’t like eating Dinuguan because I’m very particular about the blood that they use to cook Dinuguan.Hogs, chickens and cows meat that they sell at grocery stores are fed with growth hormones, antibiotics, vitamins etc😊 and that gets in the bloodstream and we ingest it too if we eat meat . In Philippines ,livestock farmers do that to,but there are lots of backyard livestock farmers too, that feed their animals with what they have growing in their backyard which are more healthier alternatives to commercial feeds.
I grew up eating Dinuguan because my grandma cooked it herself. I loved it before i realized what it was made of. When I realized what it was, it didn't bother me at all. I remember once seeing a video of a guy who doesn't live anywhere near a Filipino restaurant or store, so he decided to cook his first Filipino dish to try. He looked up the recipe and actually made Dinuguan himself. He loved it too. I was amazed at his efforts.
I've eaten a lot of Dinuguan in my life, but I always stick to the ones that were cooked quite meticulously. You'd know it's good Dinuguan if you could taste the balance of ingredients. For me, it should be salty, sour, and spicy, and you could taste the onion, garlic, ginger and peppers sautéed in there. Pig's blood takes a long amount of time to cook. That's why it's a tricky dish. Glad you've enjoyed your first Dinuguan. 🙂
@@ChrisEatsStuff You should try 𝘈𝘥𝘰𝘣𝘰𝘯𝘨 𝘗𝘶𝘴𝘪𝘵 as your next Filipino food. It is fresh squids stewed in their black ink. It is best paired with boiled plain white rice. It is my favorite Filipino dish, I love its pure seafood taste. 🇵🇭✝️🇨🇦
wow, im salivating. that's how thick our sauce is and i can say it is basically all blood and no water. the only fluid mixed in is the vinegar. we get to eat dinuguan probably once a month and in special occasions like fiestas. when there's whole lechon, there must be dinuguan with innards and all cooked into the dinuguan so almost no part of the pig is wasted. 😁😁
We in the Philippines love Dinuguan! It's a staple viand during Fiestas, Birthdays, Christmas and most of the Holidays and even during Normal Regular Days.. You can pair it with Rice ( Any kind of Rice - garlic, plain, etc ) and you can also pair it with Puto ( glutinous white rice cake. ) 😊
@@ChrisEatsStuff Filipino foods are very delicious, they are very rich in flavours. Some, however, are not very healthy. But keep eating, life is good and beautiful. 😁😁😁 🇵🇭✝️🇨🇦
When I was a kid the adults used to tell us dinuguan was "chocolate meat" so we would eat it! I always liked it anyways. As always you needs to eat it with lot of rice! and pinakbet (stewed vegetables).
I like the dry dinuguan better. It's cooked differently. The meat/organs are usually grilled first before they're cooked with the "chocolate". It's also good when using hands to eat because it's not soggy. But good job for trying and liking it. It's actually very brave of you the first time, to say the least.
hi Chris, i don't know about the others but this is how i eat dinuguan - i put spoonfuls of dinuguan over piping hot white rice, give it a mix ; i crush the chili in fish sauce and have it as a side condiment. yummy!!! glad you like the dinuguan. cheers.
Don’t worry, I’m a filipino too at first im afraid to eat dinuguan because of the color lol! But its really taste good and definitely your gonna love it! 😋🤗
It's great that you loved Dinuguan. Might I suggest, since you are in that spectrum of dishes, you try what I believe is the opposite of dinuguan - the Bicol express. If dinuguan is black, Bicol express is white. In my opinion, both are the opposite ends of that spectrum of dishes. If you're a fan of spicy food, you're gonna love it too. There is this American woman vlogger whose husband is a filipino. Lately, when they are off for vacation in the PH, they went to eat in a restaurant and her fil husband ordered dinuguan. While they're going thru the meal, her husband requested her to try the dinuguan, and for the longest time she's avoiding it, this time she did try it. Warlah, she like it very much and she's quick to say that for 16 long years she was trying to avoid the dinuguan. And now she really regret it because she came to like dinuguan with gusto.
Great story! My story is similar because I have been avoiding it for at least a short while now. As soon as it touched my tongue, I regretted waiting so long. I’m a true fan of Dinuguan! 👍🏻😁
Nice Chris! Once you get past the ingredients and just really appreciate the taste, then you’re all good. I would not eat it too often, just due to the salt and pork (i tend to get high bp). It’s mixed with vinegar so not 99% blood, maybe 75% 😂. Glad you liked it.
I'm literally eating dinuguan when I saw this video. My wife cooks the best dinuguan. Not because she's my wife :) but because she has adjusted the recipe and style to fit my taste. Slightly dry sauce, fatty pork yum.
Dinuguan is one of those things that everyone freaks out about then ends up liking it. Same with Balut. I’m not into blood and liver because of that iron-ish taste but in dinuguan it’s yummy because the vinegar cuts through that flavour. Same with liver wurst. They add a lot of salt so the iron flavour doesn’t overwhelm me.
That dish is one of my favorites.. There’s a popular restaurant/bakery here in the Philippines called Goldilocks that I always order from. They even have take out pack of Dinuguan that is sealed and can be stored. You should try Pancit Palabok next, one of my favorites as well.
Perfect combination to eat it with puto with cheese (Filipino rice cake). Dip it in dinuguan. Other version also included in dinuguan is with pork intestine.
blood is only used to literally make the color, just a cup for 1-2 kg of meat. Specially the Bicol version where it is first boiled in water and coconut cream.
Unless you have elevated level of iron in your blood, then Dinuguan is safe to eat. We also eat this with Puto, a Filipino rice cake. Not to be confused with the Mexican variety of Puto.
You must try “Papaitang Kambing”, it’s the most authentic comfort dish for the rainy and cold season in the Philippines and some people find it so exotic yet so satisfying due to its authenticity and flavorful and savory taste... It’s best served when it’s hot especially for rainy and cold season, also partner with hot rice/garlic rice which I think would be a perfect for winter season in the U.S./Canada...
𝘗𝘪𝘯𝘢𝘱𝘢𝘪𝘵𝘢𝘯 (literally meaning "bittered" in English, from the Filipino word 𝘱𝘢𝘪𝘵 which means "bitter") is offals (cow or goat innards) that are boiled in a slightly bitter soup which is made bitter by the cow's or goat's biles, gallbladders, and spleens. It is delicious, though its slightly bitter taste may put people off from trying it. 🇵🇭✝️🇨🇦
The vinegar works to counteract the gameyness of the blood. It all depends on the ingredients. Restaurants mostly use Pork meat but traditionally, pork offal or innards are used with pork meat which make the dish have a gamey, irony taste.
Wow, I'm glad you like that dish. it's my favorite since I was a kid even tho I was born here in Toronto Canada not in the Philippines. Btw you should next time try it with a filipino round white rice cake called puto not the bad word in spanish lol. Dip it in the stew and it makes a perfect combination.
By golly, watching you has made me crave for dinuguan too. Healthy? Why not. Its high in iron (no joke). Depending on the region of the Philippines, Dinuguan has variations. The northern Philippines is usually the basic - which uses the offal's (innards like liver, intestine, lungs, heart, etc.) or plain pork meat which looks like what you have there. The Visayas regions which is East, West and Southern Philippines, can be cooked with coconut milk (imagine the taste), lemon grass, ginger and Tamarind Fruit to make it sour (instead of vinegar). Another Filipino favorite way of eating dinuguan is with PUTO! Yes, that sweet white steamed rice cake. Instead of rice, the sweet fluffy puto eaten with savory sour dinuguan is addicting. Try it!
Yes, there are many regional and local variations of Dinuguan here in the Philippines. The Northern (Luzon) variations and the Central (Visayas) and Southern (Mindanao) variations of Dinuguan have all individual amazing tastes unique to them, which make the Filipino Dinuguan really a feast of various delicious tastes concentrated in one dish. 🇵🇭✝️🇨🇦
@@ChrisEatsStuff Try and get the "Original Puto" - which is made with rice flour (galapong), yeast, pandan leaves, coconut milk and sugar for the best taste. The "quick puto" - made with wheat flour and baking powder is okay.
It's vitamin B12 rich healthy if used lean pork meat. It's not healthy when some people cook it with fats in it and innards. Dinuguan is not good too often, not 3 times a week but at least once a month in my own opinion, but it really depends on how you crave for it.
Dinuguan was commonly cooked during the final preparation day of a fiesta, birthday party or weeding. It is cooked before a celebration because it is the time where the pig has been slaughtered and pigs blood is always cooked fresh and it can't be preserved as liquid it can only preserved as cube.
Nice video. Dinuguan is actually pure blood. So the it’s 100% blood. The chilis and meat are boiled in it. The iron taste is neutralized by vinegar. In the Philippines dinuguan goes best with puto (a local rice cake).
I'm Filipino and as a kid, I have to admit I wad scared to try Dinuguan associating it's taste with bitter flavors (which is why I don't eat margoso or bittermelons as well as liver dishes). But when I tried the commercially available version of it, I just absolutely loved it. It's also highly recommended to try it with puto or sweet rice cakes as it adds balance to the dish.
Did not skip ads to congratulate you for eating dinuguan. Not all people prefer eating it, psychologically and bec it depends on how they cooked it. Just realized though that the authentic one has innards in it not just pork meat.
Nice to see youve tried the dish many are put off due to the main ingredient blood ( "dugo" / blood, hence the term Dinuguan) .. it's one of my choices when eating at Filipino restaurants or at turo-turo style eateries, strangely I use a vinegar dipping sauce where I crush the chillies in.. adds the extra kick I like, ....oh..and it's better mixed into plain rice) but $15.99 ? 😲🤪 ...well it's cheaper than flying all the way here to eat it..🤣🤣 ( here that container of viand would probably cost $ 2-3 ✌️)
@@ChrisEatsStuff Seems like you had a great time eating it. You see my friend, eating dinuguan is like a leap of faith. hi Chris! vinze from the Phils.🇵🇭 here... what you have there is the luxurious version of Dinuguan... you can find that dish in mostly all micro restaurants (karinderia in tagalog) here at home. i think thats only 60-70% you have there.... here at home, its less meat more internal organs with more coagulated blood... yours there has a smooth soupy texture which is nice...😊 its healthy... but not healthy....😂😂😂😂
You should try the other version of Dinuguan.. It's called "Tinumis", instead of vinegar mix in blood, young tamarind leaves are being mixed.. it's more delicious👍
First time to watch your vlog, you're funny. And thank you for eating Diguan, my kids love to eat Dinuguan as well. Some dinugaan has intestine, but most of the time it is pork :)
A lot of ppl have versions on how they cook it and I also have mine. I like to cook mine separately I cook the meat until crisp and then cook the sauce on the side and then mix them. For me dinuguan is more like beer food instead of a meal.
May I also add that after watching a few of your videos, your skill at eating rice with your hands is just Filipino perfect. :)

In the northern part of the Philippines they usually used pig's intestine for dinuguan with some liver on it. And a little pork to add.
Sounds very adventurous 😅
Nice video. Dinuguan is actually pure blood. So the it’s 100% blood. The chilis and meat are boiled in it. The iron taste is neutralized by vinegar. In the Philippines dinuguan goes best with puto (a local rice cake).
Thanks! I’ll try it with puto sometime 😊
It's been a very long yrs that I haven't eat dinuguan. Dinuguan with puto rice is the best pair to eat.
Dinuguan is so underrated!!! But once you have tried it there is no turning back
I totally agree! 👍🏻😁
Totally agree! Dinuguan is an amazing food with a rich flavour. 🇵🇭✝️🇨🇦
Filipinos really love dinuguan very much.
Did not skip ads to congratulate you for eating dinuguan. Not all people prefer eating it, psychologically and bec it depends on how they cooked it. Just realized though that the authentic one has innards in it not just pork meat.
Thanks for the support! 😁
That was tough. Your mouth says eat, but your mind says puke. Honestly, dinuguan is my favorite but the thought gives me shivers.
Same lol 😂
Now I want to buy it there 😂
Nice!!! Finally
Yaaaaaay! I finally took the plunge 😅👍🏻
@@ChrisEatsStuff Seems like you had a great time eating it. You see my friend, eating dinuguan is like a leap of faith. If you don't take a leap you will never know what's really in front of you, same way with dinuguan if won't try it, you will never know that it's one of the best Filipino dish you'll ever tasted. 😅😅😅
@@GoldaTheGreat Very well said! I agree with you fully 😊
love dinuguan. The way you eat it is put the sauce on the rice and meat then scoop and eat.
I love Dinuguan too 😊

Kudos for eating with your hands. No crumbs on the table. No crumbs on your face 👍
I recommend to put some dinuguan on the rice to make more savory when.you eat it.
Mukbang while watching dahmer series.
Perfect for halloween party, ✨
it's mixed with vinegar is what makes it taste better
Yes Chris you can eat that even every day if you want. It's one of my favorite filipino dish. It is really good.
Awesome! I would eat this often because it’s so delicious 🤤
One of my favorite dish. Dinuguan is the best
hi Chris! vinze from the Phils.🇵🇭 here... what you have there is the luxurious version of Dinuguan... you can find that dish in mostly all micro restaurants (karinderia in tagalog) here at home. i think thats only 60-70% you have there.... here at home, its less meat more internal organs with more coagulated blood... yours there has a smooth soupy texture which is nice...😊 its healthy... but not healthy....😂😂😂😂
Hello from Canada 🇨🇦👋🏻😊 I like how you put that, ‘it’s healthy but not healthy’ 😂
Iam so hungry
While seeing you eating one of the best food in the Philippines
Yummy
Yummy! 🤤
I love Diniguan! Way to go Chris!
Thanks! 😊
You're making me hungry.😂
You should try the other version of Dinuguan.. It's called "Tinumis", instead of vinegar mix in blood, young tamarind leaves are being mixed.. it's more delicious👍
I hope to try that sometime 🙂
First time to watch your vlog, you're funny. And thank you for eating Diguan, my kids love to eat Dinuguan as well. Some dinugaan has intestine, but most of the time it is pork :)
Welcome to our channel 😊 I’m so glad you’re enjoying watching! Dinuguan is delicious 🤤🙂
All time favorite dinuguan. I like it a lot.
The flavor! Wow!
A lot of ppl have versions on how they cook it and I also have mine. I like to cook mine separately I cook the meat until crisp and then cook the sauce on the side and then mix them. For me dinuguan is more like beer food instead of a meal.
I would like to try Dinuguan the way you cook it and yes, I’ll have a beer with it as well please 😁🍻
Boy This has got me salivating, nothing beats dinuguan for me, thank you for this content...new subscriber here...
