Was Bridget always wearing a bigass handcuff around her waist I never noticed
It's for capturing Gears, Bridget used to be a bounty hunter
She always has the handcuff, wayback XX. But I think it's more of a black tone than gray (GGST).
I don't know its exact purpose but figuratively it symbolizes her true self being "concealed".
For the literal one, she uses it to hang her yo-yo (she does it for the round/match win pose in XX).
she's basically a strike throw character with huge normals that doesn't have to be as concerned about awkward quirks with her offense as much as other characters and that's something that i can easily see being a breath of fresh air. despite her lack of bulk, she has incredibly stable offense and has real defensive options to fall back on with a kit that's fairly solidly rooted in a shoto play style
she's become a refuge character for a lot of people (many of whom may have had their previous character nerfed recently)
she's basically a less extreme version of chipp that's actually stable. there's a lot to like about that considering the current state of the game
don't forget that her yoyoki mix is incredibly strong with multiple high low points that can all lead back into more yoyoki.

@@MartinDemario Bridget and Gio play nothing alike, what you talking about? If anything, Bridget is like a cross between 3 characters, I-no for high/low mix, axel for long ranged normals, and shoto-esque characters like Ky/Sol.

idk why Bridget players complain about her damage. Range plus mix, cmon fellas.
Have you been hit with conversions by Bridget? One of the worst metered damage in game (quite possibly the worst, next to Faust). Mix characters and zoners both have better damage. Without the latest patch, Bridget was sitting at the lowest winrate online and had little to no tourney presence.
@@HellecticMojo yes I understand she has low damage but like I said in my comment. She has ram level screen control with her buttons. I-no/millia mix. If she had good damage then she would just be stupid. And last patch is irrelevant, we’re talking about the present not the past
Because this is Strive. And damage is pretty high up there as a character trait.
No amount of mix is gonna help you when you guess wrong once and explode.
As Jacko, I counter Bridget hard. But aside from that, I feel as if Im not so punished by bridget. If I make a mistake against most other character, im essentially near death. But with bridget, not at all. All that work and mobility that bridget does, just feels like it was not for much. Kinda feel the same as jacko where I only get my groove on with minions, while every other character can get their groove instantly.
I play this matchup a lot and even a once against Eddventure, I don’t think it’s a hard counter, but it feels slightly Jack-O favored if not evenish. Similar to the Test/Axl mu I think if you try to only counter zone against the minions you’ll get rolled. I would compare it to the Zato mu, in the sense that whoever gets that initial lead and gets a burst first is probably gonna win the round.
I still can't believe they made a strong version of Bridget. I'm so biased because of how weak she is in ACPR, but it still feels weird.
It takes a lot for low damage low life characters to be good in Guilty Gear, but I guess the fact her mixup game is quite strong, and most of the good characters in Strive are slow ones that don't deal with far normals very well, it kinda makes sense.
She's a mix of Chipp, Axl, and Zato, at least in GGST. Glass cannon with stifling neutral, great screen control, and strong mix. She will also be a pain in the ass to effectively rate long term because of these characteristics. Two of those characters are the kinds that objectively have bad matchups, but can win in tournament because of x-factors/extraneous factors, but can also get deleted for two errors per round. I would bet she'll mirror those traits as well. I think SQ placed her in a good spot on their most recent tier list, in that clump of Gio/Chipp/Jack-0/Baiken just outside the top 5, where they're always a major threat but clearly not the very top end. Glad she's not getting downplayed anymore.
it wasn't that Bridget was being downplayed, Bridget genuinely just had bad results. Then the recent patch buffed the character up heavily because of said poor performance. People were just not willing to call the character out as bad because obvious low tiers still existed like Anji and Faust or extremely confusing and irrelevant changes like Axl 2 patches ago.
Bridget was not a major threat at all before the current patch, because the meta was dominated by those who could apply heavy damage and possess bulk.
@@HellecticMojo A character having windows where the opponent can reasonably punish on reaction does not make them a bad character. Bridget went from only being able to safely set yoyo on knockdown or with meter to doing it whenever and forcing a pretty heavily favored rps situation. Then you throw on the jump button buffs and improved defensive tools and you have a midrange strike throw character with great setplay and the ability to smother opponents with low risk bnb.
A pixie character going from no major representation to the highest top 64 representation in one of the game's most stacked tournaments after a single patch is not something to be happy about.
@@HellecticMojo The changelog from the last patch doesn't correlate with the spike in performance. Like Demacry said, going from no major representation (and barely any regional reps in events like TNS) to being tied for highest representation in the most stacked offline event in recent history doesn't add up. We didn't see character specialists with her in top 64, we saw established top players who had picked her up recently.
I'm not denying the changes weren't significant, but in large part they were reworks to create more stability in her gameplan. The discourse around her was pretty poor. SQ went from rating her bottom one to potentially 6th at best or 10th at worst. The results definitely weren't there, but people also were dooming about her in a way that didn't match how strong she was in reality.
@@sylascole5254 it's as if stability is really important for a character that doesn't deal explosive TOD damage or something. Set up that's faster, safer, more conversion friendly, along with bulk and damage barriers like Nago getting nerfed all pointed to signs of Bridget stock rising.
Bridget doing well is the least surprising thing to me. I honestly do not understand why people think Bridget being represented after the patch is such a huge surprise when plenty of high profile people dabbled in the character previously like Hotashi or Diaphone, unlike Baiken.
We all knew Nago stock was going down, and that someone was going to rise. It was going to be May, Axl or Bridget.

I imagine Bridget would beat Nago for the same reason Zato does though, no? Controls the neutral at high blood, awkward movement to avoid clone and randy beyblade to force him off of blood, and set play to bully him at high blood. The only reason we didn't see this last patch was because of how comically skewed risk/reward with Nago was last patch. Nago nerfs lower the stock of his counter picks inherently, as his pick rate declines as well.
Additionally, we saw a half dozen top players dabble with Baiken too, including Diaphone, LK, and a few Japanese players.I would argue release Baiken was FAR better than release Bridget, but we didn't see nearly as many people stick with her either.

Bought the game cuz of Brisket lol. I'm terrible, but maybe I'll be better with practice in the past and this winter patch that might have helped her

I feel like bridget is starting to experience a case of fgc overhype. I call it the trunks effect where he got buffed in season 3 and everyone started playing him like TrUnKs iS ToP TiER nOw, and that was never really the case tho. Turns out, trunks is just really popular character in the show and people just wanted to make him work. You see him "everywhere" and boom, now he appears to be top tier. Same thing happened with Kage in sf5 when he got mad buffed recently. Every content creator was coming up with the "IS KAGE TOP TIER NOW?" and you had daigo trying him out for a while too, and such. Spoiler, he's still sucky, same as trunks, and the fgc was just really excited.
Bridget doesn't seem to be that scary, it's just the fgc that's overcooking way too hard rn

It might just be because I play Pot, but I feel like the two 50/50s she gets when you block her yoyo aerial move is rough. It's hard to consistently guess two coin flips every time she gets in.

She's pretty match up dependant, due to her low hp and low damage she has to be at risk a lot more often than most. This whole challenge is just removed with pot, making her busted against him. Far from broken against most though
I really thought it was just a low level thing- since recently i’ve been going against so many Bridgets at floor 7-8. I see so much Bridget players at my level and usually it’s kill or get combo’d and pressured to death.

I made Hotashi’s new Bridget Combo better that allows me to start combo at 60% meter and end with an RC, a super, and 25 meter. As well as having a route incase of missing fast RC that breaks wall with no super.
Bridget’s archetype is a devious mid dispenser. Having that command grab makes her pressure genuinely scary
