My 20 year old friends and I went to an ancient city for the first time the other day, and we were shitting our pants the first 20 or so minutes. Can’t even imagine a nine year old stumbling across this place by accident. Poor kid is gonna have nightmares for days
F3+B is a godsend for this place. Displays entity hitboxes, their sight lines, and where they're looking.
If you want to take it a step further, find an X-ray texture pack and enable it. Break the Sensors and Shriekers, and even if the Warden spawns, run away the moment you hear it spawn, then watch it from a distance through x-Ray until it despawns.
@@princesscadance197that feels like cheating. Plus I play Bedrock.

This is it boys, Minecraft has officially turned into a horror game
facts bro
nice
I am so excited to get scared

it was always been with the cave sounds
7:42 makes me leave the cave lol
Lol yes
That's the one I heard pretty much on loop the first time I was raiding an ancient city
It was terrifying
When I first played the new update I thought it was the warden spawning and I almost quit the game lol cause I haven’t seen him before
@@sirisaac6225 first time I saw the warden it crawled up right beneath me while I was in a corner. I just had to stand there and watch as it walked about directly below me.
... I learned then that the warden could also smell
In other words I died XD
my first time was horrible i posted it on my yt and I left after i chased me even with night vision 💀
9:24 gives that terrifying but beautiful discovery
4:17 makes me cover myself in a wall and mine to the surface.
Sounds like minecart screenching or nether portal sounds

Astray Archipelago gives Nether and ocean ambience a run for its money
Honestly never felt so on edge playing minecraft than I was when I came across my first ancient city. Shit turned into Outlast
Yeah, once you hear the ground breaking you know shit's about to go down lol
The warden’s theme feels like a nostalgic Mourn of the past, when the city wasn’t overtaken by this relatively unknown parasite we barely know as sculk. Who knows what life was like for those who lived peacefully until the darkness came, but the Warden himself…
Astray Archipelago is how it feels to be in the present of genuine dangers like the sensors and shriekers of the sculk. The Warden is the most where we get horrified when it comes to find and kill us, coupled with the darkness the sculk gives around the area it’s present in and especially the haze from the shrieker and warden, flashing your entire play-through before your eyes…
Ancestry is the gradual realization of the existence of the sculk, and as it builds, to be one of the most dangerous locations unlike anything else you could find in the over world. Maybe even the nether with how differently one must play around a sculk infested area, sneaking around and with the knowledge of wool and a hoe being your best tools to navigate around the dangerous environment…
Ancestry is a theme that sticks with me due to how unsettling it is.
Something very otherworldly and strange about it. The discordant piano breaking through the monotonous droning beat in quick bursts only to be quickly swallowed up again by a more aggressive drone.
Like a city begging to be remembered, only to be quickly silenced and suffocated by an alien fungus unwittingly brought forth.
You should be a writer
@@therealwaterdonkey_4561 I have stories in the works.

This is very well written. Kudos.
Love the description!
9:25 this one calms me down when im exploring ancient cities, literally trying not to trigger a shrieker 4 times
Yeah i always hear this part
My best survival world has my base In the deep dark
This is my favorite one it reminds me of Mission impossible, kinda, I just wish someone knew the name
@@SleetzIscool yo también hice la mía en la Ciudad fue complicado porque generé 6 wardens
Did you know if you wanted to you can use wool to help not set them off. They can not hear you if you are in wool
It’s been years since a game has made me feel genuine dread. And the track at 9:24 made that feeling come back.
Ancestry is chill in my opinion, Astray is what will make me stack up to the surface tho
@@Zmob90no offense but Astray just sounds a bit generic. It sounds like any other horror, creepy music. But much better. Its any other scary music done well. While Ancestry is original and fits the theme and area brilliantly. If you heard this music outside of the ancient city it will seem out of place. While astray fits any theme and feels less special. Its generic but good scary music
@@mahiranindo1967 it sounds like astray if from a horror movie ngl
@@Zmob90 exactly
Ancestry makes you FEEL like you've found an ancient civilization lost to time, its makes you wanna explore more even with all the risks, and when you use the sculking origins addon, it gives a different feeling, since you are a lost soul, it feels like you've woken up in a familliar yet depricated and deserted home, a place that used to thrive now torn to rubble, dust flutters in the air as you look around, seeing the vast city before you cast into darkness and tainted by blue and black just fills you with dread and curiosity.
I love how in the beginning of Ancestry you can hear faint ringing noises that sound like a bell tolling. It's almost like a warning.
It reminds me to Venus "sound"
Ancestry is so terrifying... one of the few times ive actually enjoyed horror in a video game!!!! I love the sound design of this.
bro i was literally just strip mining, there was no sign of a deep dark biome in the area, and then suddenly ancestry started playing and it scared the life outta me dude 😭 it immediately felt like something dangerous was following behind me (there wasn’t anything there), so i just turned around and fuckin booked it outta there, the music didn’t even stop until i was all the way up at like, y = 50 😭
11:12 So beautiful and eerie. I always thought this part meant that I was alerting the warden, which freaked me out
I swear, they did that on purpose😭😭.
🤩❤️😊
never thought minecraft would become a horror game
It’s more a play on terror.
Just the pure threat of the warden is what scares you not the warden it self
Because the warden itself is actually kinda derpy
But in its environment it’s terrifying
It’s mostly scary when the warden is lurking around trying to find you
@@fender_ghost ofc its the deep dark.
@@fender_ghost
Exactly, it makes you feel a sense of dread knowing how powerful the Warden is.
"Ancestry" coupled with the sounds of the Warden, the heartbeat speeding up, and the darkness effect gave me a rush I never expected from something like Minecraft.
This was the last music I listened to in my hardcore world, which I continued for 1 month. I found Ancient city and I was very happy about it. I made all my preparations and entered the city, then I escaped the first warden by chance, but I don't know what the hell I was doing there, I continued on my way. Then I heard I woke another warden. I quietly tucked into a corner and imprisoned myself using wool. I felt the Warden getting closer to me with every second, and I never made a sound. He literally sensed that I was there, and I even began to hear my own heartbeat. Then ı whole minecraft adventure, killing enderdragon, killing wither, covering all my armor and tools with netherite, my beautiful home flashed before my eyes and I felt death even to my bones. Just then, the Warden used a shockwave and I dig as far down as I could. And then. my first death, I used one of my immortality totem, I died once, then once again, one more again, and one more again. And as I finally realized that I had spent all my immortality totems in my ınventory and that I would never be able to get rid of it no matter how hard I dig, this music continued to play when I died one last time and permanently. So.... Darkness destroyed my adventure too.. 09:29
Wardens can "sniff" you when you're idling, so the best way to evade them is to continuously move using sneak
Your story is very exciting, like final words of hero in legend
Wow
How much damage does the roar even do? U had 3 totems so u had to die 4 times for real death. U had netherite tools and could dig very fast. I don't see how the warden could do the roar that quickly and with a range that you couldn't escape with even with netherite tools to dig with : /
@@mahiranindo1967 Believe me man, I don't even know how its range reached me even though I was digging as fast as I could with my efficiency 5 netherite pickaxe. Firstly I dig down but I reached the bedrock, then even though I dig as much as I could on the opposite side but my 3 totems and even netherite protection 4 armor were not enough for this monster...
9:25 I think most people are waiting for the nice wind instrument in the background is beautiful
🤩🤩🤩❤️
Apparently I was mining under the deep dark and safe to say, hearing ancestry at 1am in a dark mine, triggered my fight or flight response hard
I recently triggered a shrieker while i was stripmining and the scream followed by complete darkness and heartbeating made me nervous for the next 60-90 minutes.
@@AliasSchmalias
Stripmining is risky because of The Warden lurking around in the depths. One wrong move and you’re a dead man.
After experiencing the Warden and Ancient Cities, I can say that "Ancestry" is doing an amazing job to help you feel the mood of this place. The melody is so unnerving and somehow calming at the same time, corrupted sounds and bells ringing are just *chef's kiss* . Maybe it's just me, but this song has some strong Lovecraft vibes
Man when I heard Astray Archipelago play for the first time when I first ventured into the ancient city gave my entire body goosebumps.
Me too definitively 💀💀💀💀😭
How to deal with warden: DON'T
Run.
@@BaterWucket exactly😂
@@BaterWucket
Nah, running is the *worst* thing you can do. Sneak out of range first, THEN run.
@@OneBrokenEgg Most certainly. What I meant to say, though - running is effective almost every time. Almost. If you are lucky enough to get away quickly so big guy can't reach you, even with his KAMEHAMEHA, then you're good. When I spawn William, I usually sneak first. That's the first line of defense. Although if I'm sure he's about to sniff me out, or even worse, roars at me, then it's time to move your ass and flee.
@@OneBrokenEgg also, sometimes sneaking out of range is hard to do / impossible. If you don't have any speed boosters, and Willy spawned near your location, then you're kinda screwed.
Astray archipelago sounds like something straight out of a creepypasta ngl
All this gives us an actual feeling to the deep dark and this isn’t just some other weird biome, but it’s it’s own separate place.
People keep talking about Ancestry, and yes it's a beat, but the part of this whole track Im in love with is the Wardens theme
You're not the only one enjoying this theme,I also love this theme
Yeah it sounds like a western standoff that you're 100% not gonna win, lol
I wish i could convince my friends to travel into an ancient city with me. Because let me tell you, there's no worse feeling than opening a chest and hearing a shrieker and knowing that when you close that chest, all you can do is run and hope you don't get lost
I had no idea Ancient Cities were a thing in Minecraft. So you can imagine my surprise when I found one when I was randomly mining. The first thing I heard was 9:24. The sheer amount of dread and awe I felt was astounding.
Warden theme sounds like the begining of a breaking bad episode
7:41 is what I first heard down there. I had never been so jarred since I heard the music in the End after killing the Ender Dragon….
It also didn’t help when the music started when I accidentally spawned the warden… 😰
9:24-end is the stuff iv been waiting for AKA the stuff that I heard when the warden was stalking me
Sometimes, when you break any sculk component, a screench Can be heard. This Can prove only one thing. The sculk is alive, feels pain and is contious. he is aware of the past as well as the presence of the player
One of the devs suggested that sculk could acutally be sentient. This means that our enemy is not the Warden - it's the sculk itself. Warden is only a small part of the body, being depleted to protect the rest of this unholy organism. We can see sculk as glowing, multiple stains scattered all over the city, but it's the one, whole being. This is creepy as fuck...
Also, it's the most noticeable while breaking sculk sensor. It's like *muffled scream of anger and pain* , then it collapses.
@@BaterWucket And its actively glowing. And it grows with soul energy. Its sends the Warden to protect it self.
@@BaterWucket which one + need source, sounds cool tho
And when it comes to the sculk being our enemy and not the Warden, it's my personal theory, but I came to that conclusion after watching the video I sent ya.
7:41 this song randomly came while strip mining and I didnt know what it was anyway I shat my pants
Fact : warden theme is from Minecraft dungeon
All this songs will be in the game in the new deep dark cities??
@@Valstarka idk
hey also astray archipelago
Yeah his theme is called "Fizz" from Minecraft Dungeons
In wich DLC of MC Dungeons does this soundtrack belong?
this sounds like everywhere at the end of time hell sirens
I ventured into the deep dark in my survival world the night before typing this comment and found an ancient city. I was on peaceful mode because this was a relatively new world and I wasn't stupid, plus I didn't have any way of dealing with a warden. And even though there was no danger, the music and the constant clicking of sculk sensors and the howling of shriekers made my skin crawl. Goes to show the tension this place holds.
I didn't manage to snag all the loot though due to inventory space, so I've screenshotted the coordinates and I plan to go back down there to get everything (there's still some shrexy stuff down there), but this time at least I plan to make sure that the difficulty is higher, at least then I'm fair game and not a complete pussy.
Call me a coward if you want, but I've played around with the Warden, and it's nigh on impossible to escape.
I understand where you’re coming from, as I did the same thing. When 1.19 released, I played on Peaceful so I could explore an Ancient City if I managed to find one. I’m telling you man, those Sculk Shriekers make my blood run cold.
I know how you feel, I accidentally summoned a warden one time and then he got mad at me then put me down to 2 hearts and I somehow managed to put on peaceful without dying, the warden is a fricking beast
This sent me goosebumps when i bumped into a sculk shrieker and this soundtrack playing

You know for 11 years that I’ve been playing this game you get used to the dread and anxiety that going to a dark cave or mineshaft brings you especially since the game is rather quiet and at any moment you either hear a cave sound, a skeleton, or worse a creeper explosion so you always felt you had to watch your back. This Warden shit though is a whole other level of dread that I can’t even comprehend. Every time I mine and I see the first signs of skulk I immediately do not want to go in just so I don’t encounter a Warden or especially when I’m strip mining deep underground and start to hear the Ancestry music.
ancestry is so creepy but same time so beautiful song
when I was mining, I started to hear a weird creepy noise whenever I mined a block, at first, I was scared, but then I decided to power through my 1x2 mine, then i found it, this little cave was infected with this weird block, I found the things detecting my noise and broke them, but I still heard it detect me. so looked above, and it was just darkness, so I put a torch... then I saw a massive cave filled and covered with this weird fungus, I didn't dare to step foot in it, I was going to block it off, but then when I put the first block in, I heard ancestry. I ran away, went up the long mine as fast as ever, even up in my house the song was still playing.
I logged out. by the time of writing this, i haven't gone back down there.
finally an experience for the warden, the 1.19 snapshot is out!!!!!!
but its experimental, but it also has everyone's favorite sculk monster!
Favorite? More like every Minecraft player’s worst nightmare. That thing is terrifying.
Ancestory makes me feel like fighting some kind of impossible to beat boss
Pro tip: if a bunch of screamers have spawned in a group, quickly place TNT, activate it, then run like hell.
I still think the Deep Dark should of been an entire cave biome that spanned the whole bottom of the world
It fells like waching Anihilation
9:30 cause sme to have such a huge sense of panic and urgency. I just got back into minecraft and accidentally spawned a warden and have been terrified ever since.
Warden theme uses electric guitar+acoustic bass+acoustic guitar+strings synths as instruments
First time I heard the soundtrack it was Ancestry, when it first began, I thought I triggered a cave sound (I was strip mining) and it didn’t sound right for how long it was going and a minute later, I came out in a deep dark cave that led to an ancient city and realized it’s gotta be a new soundtrack, and I loved it
I love 10:45, we finally have an intense song in the soundtrack
This started playing while me and my friend were hiding from the warden, i diddnt know they added new music for it. It scared the shit out of me.
I heard Ancestry twice in a row making me think biomes have their own OST, was clearing out sculk to find the diamonds hidden underneath
Is it weird that I think ancestry is the best song in the game??
nope. this song is beautiful
Ancestry archipelago sounds like a return to the Halloween pack way back when
I just noticed this, The Deep Dark is the only biome in Minecraft that has it's own soundtrack.
"Ancestry" is an interesting title... what sort of ancestry is being implied?
The Warden's theme sounds like a western standoff... but one that you definitely will *NOT* win.
And Astray Archipelago is just nightmare fuel.
“Ancestry” plays exclusively in Ancient Cities, so I think the implications are clear.
@@OneBrokenEgg I've heard Ancestry play in the standard Deep Dark too, though.
The song ancestry is good
One music out of all these that caught me is ancestry. It's not horrifying in a way like your running and hiding from the warden compared to the other songs. This one feels like you really stumbled upon something out of your understanding of design and architecture in basic Minecraft. The structures are built so unique compared to the villages, runes, and mansions we see in Minecraft. And the items you find in the infected and abandon ruines are rare finds and goods. Even more strange is when I played the games you find bones in the chest and a good amount. It's not a world your use to being in cause it isn't your world you use to know. With the music, the atmosphere, the buildings and even the warden. Your not entering an old abandon mine shaft...your entering some place that feels enchanted and far lost to time. Reversing and continuing in the background of the music as you step through the lost runes to time and infection.
Ancestry makes me feel like im running from unknown and hiding from it ..
( it was scary af)
9:50 the best
So stupid that they didn't add the first two tracks, they are so cool as well. I know they are from dungeons but still...
thanks
Must say they really made this place feel of
I was mining for diamonds at level -58 and I heard the third one play out of nowhere and was freaking out thinking that something scary was gonna happen. I didn’t realize that there was a deep dark biome right above me. Afterwards I heard a lightning strike. All the way underground near bedrock? I just quit the game afterwards.
Bro had a scuffed world
I like the music of the old deep dark better The new one, although it is scary, I feel that they made it very simple and that any horror game could have that music
Not been a huge fan of Lena’s songs thus far, but these are actually pretty fitting
I heard ancestry while strip mining and i was so confused and excited and i saw this and found out that i found an ancientncity
A 7 year old would shit themselves how is this rated 7+
Minecraft is more of an 11+ game now.
Ancestry is te best song of Minecrfat
Heard these while branch mining, had no idea the deep dark was a thing. Thought a creepypasta was in my game lol
Did anyone else notice that the warden theme sounds similar to cacti canyon from Minecraft dungeons.
The deep dark theme might be the best music an any video game. I mean it captures it so well... it sounds so silent... matches it so well
I thought this was a kids game not a horror game
You’d be mistaken, my friend.
Astray archipelago Sounds like something laughing or kind of cackling at the beginning of it
8:01 that was the moment i got scared by the strange sounds

The game gets darker and darker and darker with each update Minecraft has some crazy lore myths such as is Minecraft legends and Minecraft dungeons and Minecraft connected how did the soul sand valleys created who created the overworld structures why are there zombies skeletons and big spiders roaming the world was the creeper a golem or a failed experiment do the illagers farm villagers for experience and to create totems with mythical powers or to take the villagers souls to create vexes or why are there abandoned villages so many mysteries to be solved
When i go into an ancient city there always comes that ancestry soundtrack, its so annoying and it makes ancient citys much more scarier
