    Great video. Followed you step by step. Cleaned everything, including the motor (which was a pain in the ass to assemble again, so much tension on the cables).
    Going from a window that didn't move anymore to a opening time of 2.44 and a closing time of 3.17.
    Thank you very much. Had a great weekend doing this 😀

    When the window is stuck up, you can reach all bolts with a small 10mm wrench. You have to unscew most other bolts first of the whole window assembly (including the guides and motor) to remove the last upper right screw holding the window. This screw will come into contact with the doorframe while unscrewing so it takes a lot of effort to get out. After removing all bolts, I used a plier while pushing on the window to get the last bolt out because my wrench didnt fit anymore.

    If you are having trouble getting the motor to go past the front bar that holds the stationary window in place, there is a bolt at the bottom of that post that faces in, not towards the bottom of the door. I could not get the motor back in place without loosening that bolt on my 1990 Miata.
    And thank you! This is the best video out there on how to fix this issue :)

    Outstanding video and commentary - even the calming music is solid. It’s crazy - I have no issue diving into motor and Trans work but windows are one of the few things that I’ve steered clear of for years. Your video was spot on and I knocked out both windows in short order. I did order the ShinEtsu - worked great. Thanks for the video!!!

    I just also wanted to say thank you for this video. I just finished my driver’s side today on my 10AE. I had only a few things that were different but easy to figure out. I did not have a metal plate next to the speaker and I had an extra screw in the door handle. My speaker also did not easily come out but I left it in and everything still worked.

    Just a quick warning, Don't use Windex or any other ammonia based cleaner for tinted windows, unless you want them to turn purple. Speedy Garage showed using some, but applied it only to the opposite side of the glass from the tinting.

    If you're window is stuck at an awkward height, then there is an option of cutting/bustting the cables that raise/lower the wndow - but only if you're replacing the whole regulator. I had to do this, mine went about 30mins before dark with the window only 1/2 way up, door card loosened but not off, foottered about in the holes and could tell the cable was frayed and near to breaking, couple of tugs by hand it it snapped, I could then pull/push the window up/down by hand. Stayed like that for about 6-8weeks - cold and wet hear and I've no garage - also caught covid and was in hospital for a week with it (still not 100%) so had to wait till it was warmer and dry to do this job at the kerbside.

  • @debglib700

    Has anyone had this problem? Replacing a combination Motor/Regulator. But the window stops before reaching the top! you have to open the door, hold the button up and pull the window to close it! History: I guess a cable cracked (I heard it) and ordered a replacement for the Miata's Drivers side power window. Unfortunately the glass cracked and I had to wait for replacement glass. So today they seemed to be taking a long time and I asked what the problem was. The mechanic said it was stopping (first slowing down) as it approached the top. I saw someplace else online about it having to "relearn" and holding it to open for an extra 2 to 5 seconds and then closing it and holding the button for an extra 2 to 5 seconds. It actually made it worse?? Any advice?

  • @bobbyrice
    @bobbyrice Před 3 lety +3

    Hi, this video is definitely gonna help. But first I'm afraid I have to ask for free advice. 3 years ago my driver's side window on my 2002 NB started getting stuck about 3-4 inches down. I brought it to a crappy garage who said I needed a new window motor. So I replaced that and it worked for maybe a day until it started sticking again. (btw, I had the old motor tested and it wasn't broken at all). Long story short, I found when I added pressure pushing down as I opened the window and got it past that point it would finish opening. Someone in a Firestone said it was probably the regulator. I've been dealing with this for three years and am now forcing myself to confront the issue. Do you have any insight on what to expect to see when I pull the door panel off? Any advice would be great. Thanks.

    • @speedygarage264
      @speedygarage264  Před 3 lety +1

      Hey sorry for the belated response - I would imagine that your regulator is binding, but the regulator is attached to the motor. I doubt the garage would have replaced only the motor and not the regular. It could be the window guides seen on my video that are getting stuck.

    • @bobbyrice

      @@speedygarage264 Thanks for the reply none the less. It actually was the regulator cable hanging up the window. Used a zip tie to fix.

    Can anyone highlight the differences between the process of doing this for an NB vs an NA? I have a 1995 NA8. I believe this video if working on an NB, and a few things just look slightly different (like removing the door card). Any insight will be helpful as I plan to do this myself next week! :)

    • @speedygarage264
      @speedygarage264  Před 2 lety +2

      Hi Jonathan - sorry for the delay - the process is very similar, things might be in slightly different places, especially removing the door card, but once you get in there it should be almost identical. If you have a specific question, let me know.

    • @speedygarage264
      @speedygarage264  Před 4 lety +3

      Thanks for your comment! Unfortunately, you can't just change the window motor on the NB Miata - you have to swap out the whole regulator assembly. While it is technically possible to replace just the motor, you would have to replace the cables and keep them both in perfect alignment which is rather difficult. The motor is built in to the regulator.
