I just got into TIG welding… well actually doing it, anyway, but I’ve been watching videos for over a year trying to get every clue about TIG welding before I start. It’s what I do… saturation. Anyway, not many people talk about ventilation and/or safety equipment. Can you show us what you use as far as respirator (if any) or extractors in your shop etc? I don’t think those gases are meant to be inhaled. Your videos are extremely helpful and I will be signing up for your course in the near future!

Being able to see is a HUGE one! I used to just have one hood and switching processes throughout the day, when it came to tig welding something I never noticed HOW DIRTY my good lens would get from running stick especially, now I have an optrel I keep in its bag tucked away and strictly use it for tig. Made a big difference in my welds.

When I use lots of flux core wire, I tend to clean my mask every hour or so. I have a big bag of individually wrapped lens wipes, so I'll just put handful of those in my pocket every morning. Starting that habit improved my welding and reduced eye strain quite lot.

Just wanted to say thanks for the great education that you are providing. I had a quick question , are you a left handed tig welder? I hold the torch in my left hand , filler in my right . I can only do things when they are comfortable in my hands . If I played golf it would have to be left handed. Im just trying to figure out whats normal. You have done something good here and I really appreciate your willingness to pass on knowledge . Thank you so much !!

I'm trying to weld up some headers and I just can't seem to get comfortable. It just seems when you're NOT welding on a flat coupon, you don't always have control of how comfortable you are. I have to concentrate on all of the parameters you discuss here with a constantly changing angle and frankly I struggle to do it on a flat surface. I used up all of my practice material AND my project material just trying to get an acceptable weld. It gets expensive. Also, isn't "being able to see everything" somewhat dependent on the helmet?
