This week we visit Corralejo and have a walk around the town to see what things are currently like here. Corralejo seems to have responded the best to a call from the tourism minister to attract remote workers. Hotels here are offering discounts for long stays and bars are opening their doors in the daytime as co-working spaces. We also noticed that the surf schools were taking more people out over the last few weeks too. Of course, despite this short term boost to the local economy the overall number of visitors is still a long way from usual numbers at this time of the year. Other areas of the island are still extremely quiet, particularly Caleta de Fuste.
We had lunch today at La Playita on Town Beach.

It does look quite busy considering! We are/were booked into Thalasso Spa in Caleta in June, however they have just contacted us to say they are not now opening until November, so they are offering us Royal Level next door. They say lack of flights to the Canaries. 👎🏼. Anyway, wherever we stay, we’ll just be grateful to come back to Fuerteventura! ❤️

Great video ladies. I absolutely love Corralejo! I remember spending a wonderful evening at La Playita on the final night of one of our holidays there. Their paella is fantastic, and they even did a veggie version for my wife and daughters. I see you were along at Waikiki ... have eaten there often too, and I remember 'A Place in The Sun' filmed there. It's so good to see the numbers of people starting to increase. Happy days! :)

Can't believe not only was u in my favourite place . But our favourite restaurant as well . La Playita. Is Brilliant spent so many evenings there over the years. The best most friendly people you will meet . Say hello to Mohammed the owner and his boys next time your there😪. Miss it so much . We always joke with him that we fly 4 hours just to get one of his beautiful steaks🥩🥩🥩🥩🥰.. it looks so beautiful there we never see enough of you seemed a short video.

Same day i was at caleta on beach and corralejio - toro bravo - for dinner.
If you ever go down south there is a great place called El Pellizco. They do a prawn cocktail served in half a pineapple! It sounds weird but its actually really, really good. The owners dont speak much English but I am sure that wont be an issue for you. The menus are in Spanish. Really good place and they do some really nice food.

Hi Shelly, no carnivals at the moment due to social distancing but we will have a cheeky Guinness or 2 on Wednesday and raise a roast to my dad who was from Wexford 🇮🇪

Hi Girls good to see you out and about with a smile on your face,s,im feeling sorry for Coleta and a lot of this is down to the UK goverment and it,s handling of the lockdowns also i see a problem with the new restrictions on buying property and the lenth of time you can stay on the island.I think a lot of british people will think twice on buying or keeping thiere property on the Island,also will people like the changes that are taking place,We had been looking at buying aplace aroun Coleta but looking at the new requirements and restrictions at the moment idont think its worth it.

Funny enough we have had a lot of Swedish and Belgians in Torrevieja the
last couple of weeks, so people are travelling, but obviously not from the UK.

Well the Spanish entry requirements are still centred around testing and I personally don’t see that changing any time soon. If the EU can agree a universal method of proving vaccination status (which includes the recognition of a UK certificate) then it’s possible fully vaccinated people may not need a test to enter. But will they still need one to return to the UK? Lots of questions and no answers but I’d be astonished if a vaccine was a requirement for entry.

We took out a sim only phone contract with Vodafone. It has unlimited data. We use it in a spare phone and tether using a hotspot to give us wifi everywhere. The shop is in Puerto del Rosario, you’ll need proof of address and residencia. €42/month but they have offers like first 3 months half price etc. If you get a good signal with Vodafone it’s a great option until fibre is available. We average 40-50Mbps download speeds, usually between 2-5Mbps up.

Dunas Club in Corralejo have an offer for remote workers on their website. Lots of Airbnb listings offering long term stay discounts too. Other hotels in Corralejo that you could approach for a price are Bristol Sunset Beach, Surfing Colors and Buenida

What do you think about the EU only allowing brits to visit their countries for maximum 3 months in every 6 months, do you think it will deter people from trying to buy and retire? I’d like to retire to FUE or mainland Spain but under these rules it’s impossible. I’d appreciate your thoughts. Thanks 🙏
For anyone wanting to retire here they would need to apply for residency anyway, as we did, then the 3 month rule doesn’t apply

Definitely, if you just want a light lunch. We do a lot of walking and don’t find salad particularly filling 😀

Where are you living and are you renting
We bought a house in one of the villages, 10 minutes from the airport and Caleta de Fuste. 30 minutes to Corralejo. Suits us perfectly
We have been to the island for 20 years I’m 65 soon got to make my wife to think like me an move there please help xx

Good question. Been a rule here since August last year and no sign of it changing anytime soon. On an island where it’s easy to observe distancing outside it’s incredibly frustrating and will no doubt put tourists off if it continues into the summer!
