Hi Doug. Your advice has been spot on in my recording journey. Thank you! I notice you do not wear headphones when you make these videos. Do you use room monitors or just the natural sound of the guitar? I hesitate wearing phones because of the look.
Hi Nathan. I almost never wear headphones for recording, even when doing an audio-only recording. I just don't find them very useful. You're hearing too much bleed from the guitar with most headphones for them to be useful for dialing in tone. For trying to capture a musical performance, I prefer to really hear the guitar in the room. If that sounds good, and I've placed my mics right, hopefully the recording will reflect the sound I was creating in the room. So I'm just playing to the natural sound of the guitar. If needed, I can do a sound check - record a few seconds, listen over monitors, and adjust as needed. The only time I wear headphones is when overdubbing. Another case is the remote duets I do with Teja Gerken and a few others. There I have to use something to hear what I'm playing along with - basically overdubbing with video. I usually try to use unobtrusive ear buds of one kind or another that may be invisible on the video.
Doug, are you using the Tiptonic finger picks here? Sounds great, as always.
No, I'm using gel nails - self applied - at the moment. I'm slowly getting the hang of doing them myself.
@@DougYoungGuitar Well, they sound good. Thanks for answering.
i have your DADGAD book
Can k make ir a simple of this?
Not sure what you're asking. Are you asking if it can be made simpler? It's not very complicated now, but it's always possible to make a different arrangement.
Beautiful rendition. I'm not a fan of the thumb pick though - it creates a sliding or rubbing sound before the sound of the note, instead of a clean sound when the string plucked by a thumb with a thumbnail.
Everyone has different taste, but for me the thumbpick works and sounds far better than my thumb ever does. Just my personal choice, everyone has to pick what works for them.
Beautiful!
