Hi! With BOFXVI on the way, I figured I'd make a video showing off the top 5 songs from the biggest BMS event of each year from 2004 to 2019. This video uses the individual score (個人戦スコア部門) ranking from the official event pages, and is not based on my personal opinion. I hope y'all enjoy the video!

Honestly, thank you for making this video. I grew up playing rhythm games and being able to see the origin of the songs that shaped my childhood was quite special. After listening to the BOFXVI entries, I am amazed at how far the bms community has come. Here's to another decade of BOF and good luck to all the contestant of this year.

The reason why these BMS competitions intrigue me is the simple harmony of both the artist/s' and animators' work into bringing a audio-visual experience. Whether the BGA serves as a visualizer (animation-heavy), aesthetic enhancer (words & text are present), a story, or all at the same time, its will never cease to amuse me.
Don't forget all the animators/BGA creators, they all deserve appreciation along with the artists who worked with them!
to be honest, its really crazy how these song contests had evolved a ton since the beginning until present day. many artists have managed to get recognition from these song contests like xi, sakuzyo, ras, p*light, nora2r and of course, the late SHIKI (may he rest in peace).
and im sure majority of these artists had the dream to compose music, and now most of their music is now in majority of music games thanks to BMS. BMS really shaped the community.
silentroom, frums, billiummoto, kurokotei, and others also became big years later after the composers you mentioned became big.
they were even amazing all the way back in 2004… HOW
2010 was really the point where we started to get the song styles that typically do well these days.

2011 is the most memorable to me, cause my favorite songs back then were Parousia, and the popular conflict. At that time, I never thought they'd make it to top 5, man I wanna go back to being a kid again.

ive only been listening to doujin music activly for a few years and been playing rhythm games on a nd off for the bast 7 years but i love all this music all the same. this talent from the producers to the BGA makers is way over looked by most of the internet. i feel glad and happy i get to experience it here and now

What is BMS?
BMS (Be-Music Source) is basically a rhythm game chart format developed in 1998 to emulate how Konami's beatmania IIDX series of arcade rhythm games work. Each year there are events where composers and chart makers contribute songs for playing with BMS (and this is the important part- nowadays songs that aren't specifically made for BMS are frowned upon, since, well, they're usually illegal). The biggest such event is called BOF (though the organizers have changed the name a number of times, like BOFU, G2R, BOFXV, etc.)
