Fishing for Pelagics in August on Oak Island

- As summer slowly roles into fall, the finger mullet start showing up in the surf. This is an excellent time to target new species. Instead of fishing with shrimp and sand fleas for whiting and pompano, we are going to switch over to fishing with live finger mullet for the pelagic predictors. We are talking blues and Spanish and anything else in the surf that's hungry for live finger mullet. We will also try our luck trolling the Cape Fear and will even stop for lunch on Bald Head Island.

Good Spanish. I would say the long runs that broke are 100 %sharks. Unfortunately and def not tarpon. If I was you, I would focus on spot, blue, and ICW fishing. It’s just not a good time of year. Typically I fish for Shark during the summer at night. The peers do not like it during the day but that’s an option too. Go in October and Nov!

I'm here now, going out in the morning low tide and catch some bait for daybreak. I'll update this evening.
I got a chance to go for an hour this evening but no luck. The surf was churned up and the bait fish were nowhere to be seen… at least where I was.
@@SandsintheSurf plenty at the point. Something was crushing them at 3am, I assume drum by the sound. Of course I didn't take anything but a cast net and bucket. Blues killed my mullet on the beach but ate around the hooks. One good spot, one good Whiting and a pomp this morning. Saw some Tarpon cruising around 200yds off the beach.
Awesome fishing 👍. I think we're gonna try to come down for a long weekend in September. I hope the fishing is good.
