  • Tim Mahioney and Anthony Bruneni are back with episode 3 of the DIY 'Till I Die budget build! After sucessfully flashing the tune (only 100+ HP before adding mods), they are ready to see if it can actually even handle only 100 HP and if it can make that number if some hard parts are failing. They discuss the dyno, how ours specifically is a heartbreaker and more!
Foillow the guys throughout the duration of the build right here,

Wow nice video and good job with the tuning. I can’t say enough how awesome this series is because of how realistic and relatable it is to a lot of our situations. Most people who have old trucks have em or got em in a similar condition like this. Having a pristine OG truck isn’t very realistic and this series does an awesome job of highlighting real world scenarios.
Just purchased a stealth 64 with y’alls sale for my lb7, excited to work on that while this series is going on.

Love these vids! I was going to pick up or order a newer dually. I’ve decided to snag an ‘01 crew dually LB7 and just build it how I want it. Thanks so much!!

We love LB7 content, bubble nose is my favorite. That 2 tone though, old fashion.
Would the stock trans be able to hold more than +100hp with a line pressure increase and better fan/radiator?

In regards to the transmission... It may, but you are tempting fate.

I love my LB7. Picked it up in 2019 with 170k on the dash and 72k on the new motor and built transmission. Just need to fix the little issues inside the cab

All things being equal, direct drive is a better gear for a dyno pull. 329 seems low for a lb7. But 100 over stock is a nice gain. Those 5 speeds are very fragile. First 3 gears are bullet proof but drive and overdrive are weak. Get a built trans in that thing and it should make in the neighborhood of 500 pretty easy

Heard 500 is the limit of a LB7, well stock internals

@@SubePelayo928 a friend of mine made 650 on stock internals with a turbo, injectors, cp3, and built trans. Ran stock tuning and kept the timing down and ran in that form for around 2 years and he ran it hard. It did scatter eventually but it wasn't the engines fault. (left the oil cap off after am oil change)

@@shanejarratt9800 when I bought my truck in 2019, the previous owner put a new engine in it in 2011 and had the trans built in 2016. The transmission shop owner built it to his specs of what he would run in his own truck. Gave me receipts for everything. My truck now has injectors, edge CTS tuner and straight pipe. It gets up and goes. But I don’t think it’s anywhere near 500hp. I’m think 350-400wheel

@@SubePelayo928 Not to reiterate what @shanejarratt9800 just said but we've also seen trucks pushing upwards of 650 on stock internals as well.

Hoping that wasn’t a max effort tune

    • @bradleydavidsankey

On a stock 5spd a 100whp tune is about all that is usually "safe". They clearly state it's a 100whp tune and the truck came in 105whp above the bone stock calibration, I'd say they're right on the money as advertised.
Having ran on that dyno it definitely is a heartbreaker.

I need to talk to your “ mechanic” who changed that water pump in “ only a couple of hours”. As I mentioned in my comment from last video I’ve done 2 water pumps now on mine in my 20 plus years of ownership & even with everything going as planned still takes me every bit of 5-6 hours or more . I cannot understand WHY the engineers decided to make it to where the harmonic balancer needs to be removed to access those two lousy extra bolts to remove the pump , making it a lot longer job than necessary, but it is what it is I guess. I’ve got a 7” lift & 35” tires on mine which makes it even tougher due to added height , plus I had to get a large enough wrench first go -around to remove stupid Fan clutch , and a large enough Breaker bar & socket & torque wrench to remove/ re-install harmonic balancer bolt property. Still interested in seeing all you do with this one here in your build videos , and have a great weekend guys . 😎👍
