What a bunch of Shoemakers , if you don't take the engine out, hot tank the block, magnaflux everything , replace the rod bolts, the head bolts, throw all the valves away, check all the guides and seats, magnaflux the crank, check all the clearance, then assemble in a clean room, all you are getting is a quickie refresh rebuild. My dad did this back in the late 50s. But they did it this way back then because he had no garage and was working outside and trying to provide for his new family. Today's diesel is more complex and the trend is to find a pre emissions chassis with matching powerplant and no electronic log.My childhood friend Dan told me that he has a truck with 2 million miles on it and he put 250000 in the past 5 years himself with no mechanical issues. 60 years old and he is still trucking..
