    My rule of thumb is.. If you can easily touch it to change it and you want to take a chance on an aftermarket part then it's okay to try it.. If you have to disassemble a lot of parts to get to it and you can't see it or touch it then go with O.E.M.. hands down!

    I did a rebuild on a 2012 Volvo D13 engine and took the engine apart and guess what??? The pistons were Mahle Clevite with Volvo stamped in it as well...Mahle also makes aftermarket kits for heavy truck diesel engines. Mahle makes performance parts for racing car engines, I can't think you could ever go wrong with Mahle Clevite for heavy duty truck parts.

    PAI is reputable
    CAT uses it sometimes for rebuild
    so im guessing its just as good

    300k miles on overhaul
    still no issues

    When you rebuild an Engine, it's very risky in my opinion to spend that extra money for oem because if you don't know how good your mechanic of choice really is, no matter how good the parts are, the engine will break down soon. And if your doing an inframe, I would never choose to use oem. I would only use Oem if the engine is taken a part completely and every single components are taken to the machine shop.

    I just started managing the shop for our family business. My mechanic keeps insisting that cause I went with PAI is the reason the truck locked up. Even though he didn't prime the oil after overhaul. What's your view on this?

      @quewat3676 Před 2 lety +2

      Get rid of the mechanic.
      I asked my mechanic how he was going to prime the engine right after rebuild with pai..he poured the two buckets ...over the.cykinder head...
      Spread the oil on all the valve train...and goes straight down the oil pan..making sure critical parts are lubricated before dry start....truck started like it sat overnight

    • @crashjose
      @crashjose Před 6 měsíci

      After performing an overhaul your mechanic should prime the oil system thru the fitting in the oil cooler module, that's in the service manual I think you pump 8 qts in total, also I would check the o-rings that goes in the connection tubes between the oil suction manifold and oil pump, those get brittle over time causing oil pressure drops; most probably your engine suffer from oil starvation and didn't last much until a rod bearing spin and may damage the cylinder block.
      Also it's very important to check the bypass valve in the stad pipe for the oil filter, it should be on place and not stuck, very easy to change and not an expensive part that could cause an expensive failure.

      Teníamos motores Cummins big cams, 2 camiones hicimos medias con partes Cummins originales y duraron 3 y 4 años antes de que las camisas se dañaran. A otro big cam y a un N14 hicimos la reparación con partes Felpro y ningún problema. Se vendieron los camiones y aún siguen trabajando bien después de 10 años.

      Por mi punto de vista ..cuando yo era chófer de una copmania bastante grande .. me acuerdo vque nos daban camiones cada tres años...y a pesar que me aferre con quedarme con el más viejito de todo el flete...y le dije a mi despachador que porque cambian de camiones ..si apenas tienen tres años..ni siquiera 200 mil millas..( hacía entregas alrededor del las cuidad)..
      Esto fue lo que me contestó...
      Las compañías..(empresas)..grandes tiene un departamento que se llama (risk management).. departamento de riesgos..que analizan situaciones para . no perder dinero..
      Entonces lo que entendí..es que a los tres años..empiezan las fallas..se acaban las garantías..depende las millas.. etc..y cosas así...y ahora que soy dueño de camión...y por lo entiendo y e visto..que ay que estar listo para las partes vque no te duren..igual que comprar cosas para tus autos. .casa ..ropa....etc..etc...que opinas??
