A video I have been meaning to make since I moved to New York! This is an in depth video on the apartment hunting process in New York City, comment which one you think I got. Happy Sunday!
I'm a simple man, if I see a Conover video I click. I like these videos! The exposed brick reminds me of the old apartment actually. :D as someone who has been following the vlog, if you still remember me lol, I think you're going to love the one with the view in the long run because you are a sentimental man, Erik and there will be days when you're going to want to unwind and just look for that inspiration to write, vlog or gather your thoughts and that view will definitely help you.
@@davidwilson6772 I've lived in NYC for all my life and yes price is most important unless you like living paycheck to paycheck and not afford anything else.
Erik Conover 2000 to 3000 where in Queens? The apt in the EV you showed is about 2600 ..I live here grew up here I know the prices all over the city. What I hate about your vblog is you are leading naive ppl on. NYC is dying fast, it's full of transitioning ppl and bars. Super sick pricy everything. Most leave within two years. Also you constantly moving drives up prices ..can you move back to Ohio? Oh yea you will as soon as you marry have 1.2 kuds an but a house in the burbs. Meanwhile NYers are stuck with the high rents transitioning ppl cause.
No offense, but this isn’t HELPFUL unless you’re telling people what’s worth this and that. People don’t want to get ripped off so by sharing your experience while including prices, fees etc, then you’re actually helping. You say it’s “too personal” but ... you chose to expose yourself on CZcams and showing people your journey which is great but don’t give us half ass info. And FYI, for anyone reading this essay lol you can find HUGE apartments for half the price of a shoe box in manhattan in the boroughs, which is just a train ride or uber away from Manhattan. Bronx and Queens are changing and proving people with a better more affordable lifestyle.. do your research!!!
go for the view. you won't be able to use the terrace for like 3 or 4 months a year and you might not have much privacy out there. when you leave your place for the day that's when you go outside. home is about privacy and a nice vantage on the outside ... not being IN the bustle of outside.
OPT FOR THE VIEW over the outdoor space. You'll get to use the outdoor space some times, and mostly seasonally, but not as often as you'll be able to enjoy the view year round, from the comfort of your interior space, regardless of weather conditions.
I love that you are still grinding and making things happen Erik. I’ve watched your ambition and hard work for years now and I really appreciate the acknowledgment of us long time viewers. Keep it up man!
tip: move to Brooklyn or Queens, and live with roommates. Now instead of spending 2500/mo for a 400 sqft studio in Manhattan, you can pay 2500/mo (your share would be 625/mo or 833/mo) for 3 or 4 bedroom 1800 sqft apartment and just commute if you work in Manhattan.
Moving often in New York is definitely not a common thing to do. If you’re moving often it’s most likely because you haven’t found your niche. Most people tend to hold onto their apartments for awhile since finding an apartment in NYC can be a daunting experience.
I honestly just couldn't do it. 3k for a 275sq ft box? I don't care how many cool coffee shops and indie/hipster shows NYC has to offer I'd much rather live in my 1.2k sq ft apartment by the water in Florida and drive a nice car.
Go for the terrace! Its so nice to have that outdoor space that you can just step out onto without having to go all the way downstairs... plus its so much extra space for hosting friends :)
I pick apartment number five for you because it's bigger. has natural light with a fantastic view. The apartment with the Terrance is very nice but because of the wonderful location you will be enjoying the city. That beautiful view in number five will be there when you wake and fall asleep.
terasse. Every little bit of space is needed. Even if you weren't to use it, it still makes you apartment bigger and it gives you breathing space. Plus you can invite your friends over.
Definitely the Terrace Apartment. Outdoor space, especially in the city, is invaluable. Also that one would probably have the best natural light of them all.
Terrace! You can see the city anytime you step outside, but you can't always have a chill, outdoor place to relax or do your work when your're at home!
Erik Conover, you are one of the few CZcamsrs who is putting real effort in making youtube videos, don't give up your dream ! I root you from the bottom of my heart :D !!!! Go Erik !!
I lived in West Village and Park Slope when I lived in NYC. My Park Slope apartment had an outdoor terrace. It was AMAZING! So many parties out on the terrace. I put up strings of lights, had seating and a BBQ grill. It was the place for amazing parties. So if you like to entertain, I would go with the terrace. Otherwise I would still take the Chelsea apartment but with the view. How fun to have a new place! (I lived in NYC for 3 years and 3 months and had three apartments!)
Terrace > View 😉 You'll get used to the view, but you'll always enjoy chilling at your terrace and inviting your friends! So I vote #6 or #5 with the outdoor space✨ 🤗
+Erik Conover your channel is my favorite you tube channel form NYC i may still consider going to New York City for school. I look forward to every new episode from you. I may be in NYC next fall.
I would pick the apartment with the terrace. It's basically additional square footage. I can see myself having my morning coffee out there or doing yoga. But my favorite apartment was the second one.
Different strokes for different folks. I know plenty of people who have moved once every year, sometimes within the same borough, but often times between boroughs (e.g. when they first came to New York City, they lived in Manhattan but eventually moved to Brooklyn, etc.).
trust me! imagine just walking and stretching outside, having drinks in the summer time!!! honestly, just beautiful!!! you can have plants and vegetables
Tough call but I love the private terrace. If you think you'd use the terrace a lot go that way, but if you need the relaxing views to unwind go for the views.
Terrace for sure, it'll make you feel like your not stuck in a box. You still have the rooftop for views(which are even better than your current rooftop views, amazingly enough!) 😊 Good luck to you in whichever you decide!
Terrace apartment for more play space to video. Also get lightweight storage unit and put sports/outdoor equipment away, nice and neat and waterproof. Could have outdoor yoga class, private trainer classes, music lessons,, etc. Invite other folks and have nice outdoor living room for chats, interviews, like Erik, Up On The Roof. Winter wonderland activities too. Of course BBQ and roof top beach party. Room with no ceiling, the best!
FOR ANYONE INTERESTED IN MOVING TO NYC/ surrounding boroughs: Actually it is customary to make 30-40x the monthly rent and if you need a co-signer they need to make 100-110x the rent on their own! Yes this is absolutely true and I am a Native New Yorker. So let’s say a $1500 studio (super difficult to find anything cheaper). One would need to make 45-60K a year (30-40x) if needed, the co signer would need to make $150-165K.... oh and your credit score needs to be at least 720+ in MOST places. Plus to move IN they are usually asking for first, last, security AND brokers fee for the yearly rent usually 10-15% (definitely more than one months worth). In this example that would be 1500+1500+1500+1800 or 2700 (10 or 15%) = $6300 -7200 just to move in to a $1500/month studio and that’s NOT including moving fees, furniture and decor. Rule of thumb here for many starting out is to have at least 10K to even THINK about moving out on your own. NYC is incredibly expensive and New Yorkers believe if you can make it here you can make it anywhere. The opportunities are abundant and it really is for those that want this particular experience.
#2, #3, were my favs. #6 was cool for the terrace. You deserve something nice and open. Please go with one of them with the open floor plan. Definitely not #4. Can't wait to see which one you choose!
i would go with the patio space, but that's only because I like to host and already host dinners no matter the size or layout of my apartment. So if you don't already do that, then you probably wouldn't start just because you have the space. And that's okay! You can always go to other peoples parties. plus there's that roof top.
I like the last apartment the most. What is the general housing market like in New York? How empty swept or large selection? I just saw a video about the rise of New York’s Super Skinny Towers ... Best regards from Germany, Stefan
Bonus. Didn't see much of the apartment itself but how nice would it be to have your own personal outdoor space? Just to step outside anytime you feel like it without leaving home, have your morning coffee, entertain? It will be an extension of the apartment in the good weather months.
We've been here 12 years. Rented one year. Bought an apartment and have been there eleven. We're probably the exception for new comers. We were in our forties and had the down payment for a co-op.
Smart video Erik! I go with terrace.... #6 I believe! Good luck w your search!....I moved here in 2014 and have lived in Harlem, LES, UES, Murray Hill and now my beautiful place all to myself on the gorgeous and peaceful Upper West Side. I'm on the Hudson btwn Riverside Drive and West End. Picturesque and quiet, which is what I need after 12 hr workdays. In between Riverside Park and Central Park. It took awhile to find. My requirements were : elevator, doorman, washer/dryer in building and less then 2 blocks from subway. Man did I luck out! Hope you'll be joining the West side...it is the Best side 🤘🏼
I mean, if ur asking, Obviously the terrace. I don’t know how much more it is, or how it works in your budget, but you’re basically getting double the space.
The last one in WV is the sickest! I live in BK and I totally get wanting more natural light. Plus you can’t beat the view but go with patio for brunches and bbqs
ok random question that is way premature (i'm literally 14)...but is LA or NYC the best for film/youtube? I've been attached to being a filmmaker since i was six and now that I'm older and finally started a channel, I'm really interested in moving somewhere with more opportunity (when I'm older). anyone have any experience?
lexamazing You seem really passionate about filmography, so I am I. I am 18 now, going to college so I am studying a lot and not filming much which is my passion.. I was thinking about that as well. I feel like LA gives you more options for collabs and such, but NY is more unique I guess.. Really depends on a person... Where do you think you would feel better?
LA has become dull, every content creator (Vlogging etc.) has become centralized in that area. NYC is definately something different, but you would need to focus on a place thats got a bit of everything.
Depends on what kind of film work you want to do. I feel as if you could really be anywhere for CZcams. The traditional film industry is strong in both places. It is much bigger in LA, but there’s still a bunch of great films & TV shot in NY. Also worth considering Atlanta, New Orleans or Chicago. Those are all smaller markets, but sometimes it can be easier to start a career in a smaller market first. 😉 but you’ve got lots of time to figure out what’s best for you.
At this point in my life I would pick the view because I am so busy that I wouldn't have time to enjoy the terrace, but maybe I would change my mind in a few years.
A video I have been meaning to make since I moved to New York! This is an in depth video on the apartment hunting process in New York City, comment which one you think I got. Happy Sunday!
Erik Conover hopefully you chose the bonus!
Love the terrace one but you travel a lot so you might want the view if you are not going to entertain anyone. Great video.

why don't you give the approximate prices of these apartment,
that's most meaningful thing.
Thats quite personal. Lets just say they range from $2,000 to $3,000+ per month.

Lydia Green he's saying for 300sq ft it's between 2000 n 3000. Dude is so not honest. Typical CZcamsrs scammer's.
Erik Conover how is that personal? Thats the most important thing
I was wondering the same and that's why I came to the comment section, actually that's the second most important thing

So damn true xD

No... really?🙄
This is just a waste of space on CZcams when you don’t mention the price
Why don't you mention the rents of the apartments?
because the price would scare a lot of his viewers away haha!

i used to live in soho in a studio with my dad it had a patio and it was the best thing ever. barbeques every night
At this point in my life I would pick the view because I am so busy that I wouldn't have time to enjoy the terrace, but maybe I would change my mind in a few years.
Vieww !!!
