    I'm a reformed Russell stan. I used to defend everything he did. I followed him from OKC to Houston, was super happy when they beat the Thunder to move on to the second round for the first time in like 5 years. Then the Wizards happened, now hes on the Lakers and I really see the problem was always him. He has great qualities. Possibly the greatest offensive rebounder in history for his size. However, his decision making, those costly turnovers...he actually is a net negative and players have to drastically change their games around him.

    • @AleksandarAcanski

      He uses his immense talent and athleticism to buff his own stats to the detriment of the team.
      Oddly enough, I've come to believe that he doesn't do it because he is a selfish player.
      I used to, but I don't anymore; I actually think he believes that what he's doing is what's best for the team.
      Westbrook has the potential to be one of the all time greats.
      I think he still has enough good years in him to turn this ship around.

At the beginning of the season I wasn’t too worried but now I just cannot defend him man. He may be playing a little better than the start of the season but like you said, the turnovers, the free throws, almost everything about his game ain’t doing good or good enough for the team. Like seriously we could’ve gotten Demar Derozen, WHO IS BALLIN OUTTA HIS MIND RN IN CHICAGO, but instead we got Russ and it’s just....it saddens me man, he gotta get his act together.

  • @bfe954
    @bfe954 Před 2 lety +3

    When you put together a roster really really well…players multiply each other’s strengths and cover up each others’ weaknesses. If you look at Golden State…Draymond’s inability to shoot consistently well is covered up because they have incredible shooting around him, and he’s allowed to focus on his strengths of playmaking and defense. The Lakers have too many players who do the same thing well but not enough of something different. Lebron makes everyone around him better…except Russ because he is a similar player as far as skill set but way less effective than Lebron. You’d be better off with a role player who can shoot and makes good decisions than Russ. I don’t know what the logic was to bring Russ, AND Rondo who again…3 players who do the same thing

    • @SLICENSLASH
      @SLICENSLASH Před 2 lety

      Yup, CJ McCollum would fit perfectly on this Lakers roster eventhough he's an inferior player to Russ in terms of carrying a team.
      I look at the reasoning for getting Russ was that he works like an "innings-eater". He doesn't miss games, always plays aggressively, piles up assists & rebounds, and raises the tempo of your team. He's actually done all those things pretty well, the problem is they didn't account for his presence on the floor lowering the IQ of the team, or all the constant turnovers.
      The challenge is can Russ elevate his brand of Basketball to be a part of championship calibre team, rather than lower the team down to his level of middle of the road Basketball he's played since leading a team on his own?

    I love Russ but I think when you compare him to a guy like CP3 it is the perfect example in the talent vs impact argument. Russ is like 6'4, stupidly athletic and despite being injured by Patrick Beverley that 1 time has essentially never missed any significant time. He may also have some of the most ridiculous career numbers at face value for any guard ever, but he simply achieves those numbers in a way that does not cause winning basketball. CP3 is smaller, nowhere near as athletic and gets injured way more but if you look at his career resume he gets steady numbers that don't jump out at you but he always makes his team better. Sometimes if you are putting up alot of numbers you are just taking numbers away from your guys that they would have put up anyway so you are not actually adding any "impact" to the game you are just hoovering up the numbers. Whereas a guy like CP3 won't try to force anything he will just play solid D, get everyone involved and make the right chess move to get wins. Mind over matter.

So, Westbrook scores 20 points a night, but if he played actual point guard he might have 10 points a night, but facilitate 25 points for his teammates. In other words his 10 extra points are actually costing the Lakers many more points, and therefore costing them the game.

      He’s proven playoff loser at this point. He’s put up horrendous numbers in the playoffs with teams that are better suited to his needs compared to this Lakers team. I can’t think of any reason why the results will be any different this time.

    I idolized Russ til I saw him play in my rec league and damn near lose to a team that didn’t even beat us that bad. He was out there stealing rebounds, smoking layups, and getting his cookies took and there was a Chinese kid in a goku shirt playing in that same game
