  • Fury is a 2014 American war film written and directed by David Ayer. It stars Brad Pitt, Shia LaBeouf, Logan Lerman, Michael Peña, and Jon Bernthal; all members of an American tank crew fighting in Nazi Germany during the final weeks of the European theater of World War II. Ayer was influenced by the service of military veterans in his family and by reading books such as Belton Y. Cooper's Death Traps, a 1998 memoir that underscores the high casualty rates suffered by American tank crews in combat against their better-equipped German counterparts.
Production began in England in early September 2013, with initial filming taking place in Hertfordshire. This was followed by principal photography on September 30, 2013, in Oxfordshire. Filming continued for a month and a half at different locations, including the city of Oxford, and concluded on November 13, 2013. Fury was released on October 17, 2014, receiving positive reviews and grossing US$211 million worldwide.

Especially Grady. He just kind of comes off as a prick for a good half of the film but the scene where hes telling don about how worried he is about making it back recontexualizes it.
He's taking his anxiety out on Norman cause he doesn't know how else to deal with the stress. Makes him way more sympathetic

Or is the film even better when you need to figure out their motives on your own? A striking example of how sometimes less can be more?
The additional scenes are all interesting, but quite a few are noticeably drawn out or are less perfectly acted than the rest of the film, which thrives on almost always keeping the pace up. A quiet scene, like the one at the dinner table, seems so intense precisely because the film otherwise never takes breaks.
Given the film's theme, the wording shouldn't sound macabre, but one of the first and most important guiding principles when writing is: Kill your darlings! Which means nothing other than that you should examine the scenes that are particularly close to your heart most urgently to see whether they only stand for themselves or also advance the story.
The film is almost perfect as it is. Precisely because the cut was so courageous to focus on the essentials.

The line Michael Peña said at 2.20 really hits hard. "Pronto te veo rojo." Translates to I'll see you soon red. A striking example of how sometimes less can be more.
The additional scenes are all interesting, but quite a few are noticeably drawn out or are less perfectly acted than the rest of the film, which thrives on almost always keeping the pace up. A quiet scene, like the one at the dinner table, seems so intense precisely because the film otherwise never takes breaks.
The omission of background information also increases the intensity because you have to sense and feel the reasons for the protagonists' roughness yourself.
Anyway, thank you for uploading! Being able to see the scenes afterwards is a gift.

Pitt is 51 in his movie but almost doesn't look it. His character must be in his 20s, maybe 30s, considering his brother was 16 just before the war. Ayer originally wrote Wardaddy as mid 20s but looking much older due to stress of the war. Ain't no way Ayer was going to pass up on Pitt, so they probably said "fuck it" and cut out the backstory to keep Wardaddy's age a mystery. Wardaddy's backstory perfectly explains his grim nihilistic and realistic outlook on the war, I do wish someone cuts up an extended cut with all the extra scenes back in.

Out of all these scenes the two they really should have kept in was at the dinner table when Gordo started talking about the horses at Faliase Gap and he and Bible started crying along with Gordon. That added a dimension to them that made them more like real people with feelings instead of a bunch of killing machines who had no emotions about what they went through. When he said that all day and night you could hear the shots of men putting the horse out of their misery and it sounded like babies crying, it added so much that the other scenes did not, and that was in such sharp contrast to the officer (who in the movie said, I know who you are and what you are capable of) getting morally wounded in the shelling and War Daddy just walking away like it was nothing, back to the every second reality of one man standing next to another and in an instant, there is only one left.

That was the biggest military slaughter in the Western front. It would be odd that a man would come away from that unmoved unless he was a sociopath or psychopath.
Fury would probably have taken up positions on the American side of the solid wall of men and machines and been there for perhaps 3 or 4 days, first firing into retreating Germans then making sure that no small German groups passed through the line after the fighting stopped.

The extra background on top i see why it was cut. But it explains his characters cool resolve and skill rallying his men when metal starts flying live or die win or lose, he loses no matter what. You know hes the glue, now i see where he finds his coolness and quick thinking under fire. I agree with the decisions made for theatrical release but these add alot for me.

Why do they not prepare some IEDs along the road? I cant recall whats in thevtank after it breaks down, they had shells, nades, willy pete and probably fuel plus that tank would make a good hard point for a barricade. Two men positioned together with enough ammo and the ability to get effective fire ripping into the now scrambling 300 SS less casualties... really depends on the small arms and the ammo count. If the .30 had ammo too and was kept at a fallback position with a clear killzone they mayhave held it, thats my.uninformed uneducated.opinion though.

@alejandrogm1588 the real "War Daddy" was SSGT. Lafayette G. Poole and that is who Brad Pitt's character is based on. He was from Odem, Texas, my hometown. Do a goggle search, he had a very impressive war record.

He's an actor. That's how he has impacted the world. Everyone doesn't have to do everything. Using one's God given talents is all we can expect of others. Especially since most hold themselves to a lesser standard. Never expect more of others unless you are willing to or have lived up to those standards.

I knew Don's backstory a little, but that is damn heartbreaking. It explains so much. I'm guessing Emma reminded him of rose.

Would love it if they released "Fury Cut" which contained all the deleted scenes, restored, special effects added. turning it into a 3+ Hour war Epic.
