do a video on Realsoft 3D, the overpriced software that went nowhere :)
I absolutely loved Clarisse IFX. As a Houdini user I don’t totally agree with the comments made by other users in regards to Houdini, UR5 / Nanite and other USD capable DCCs having the ability to scatter / instance and do what Clarisse did at the massive scale it was capable of.
To this day I still haven’t found a DCC that can handle the literally 100’s of billions of polygons per scene that Clarisse was capable of. Yes that even includes UR Nanite as there are still many limitations to what nanite is capable of, especially if you need meshes to be animated etc.
In Clarisse bringing in massive amounts of VDBs, simulations, terrains, geo for real world scale environments was liberating. It’s a shame we might not ever see what Angie was going to be capable of. I’m hoping that someday that Clarisse gets resurrected in some form.
But there are some clarisse setups files online
Can't we use clarisse forever and the good news they are cracked lol😂😂🙌
As a longtime Houdini user I have to agree. The same year ILM replaced their pipeline, except for ships (Renderman) in The Force Awakens we had their reps demo the software for us. They built out a scene on a 16Gb middle-of-the-road gaming laptop that couldn't have cost more than $1500 that was many billions of polygons, and then started instancing VDB fire volumes. The demo jock would pop up the task viewer to inspect RAM usage and I don't know that Clarisse ever asked for more than 8gb.
If I saw this at a trade show I'd be really skeptical, but they were just doing it right there in our front reception area on a coffee table. And when we asked about render speeds they were claiming roughly Arnold level at the time (pre hybrid rendering). I've never been more blown away by a DCC since daily driving Wavefront TAV and Alias software and getting to see Prisms for the first time.
It was obviously not a total replacement for a general purpose DCC but what Clarisse did I've never seen anything perform on that level.
You spelled trillions wrong lol I stopped trying to push clarisse after having 10 trillion polys in a scene because I didn't think I was going to be able to push it too far. No other software comes close to the viewport freedom Clarisse provided.
@@InsideTheMindSpaceha! Your probably right! Love your CZcams / Houdini content btw!
@@jordanwright5795 Thanks! I appreciate that. Thank you for your support.
You mislabeled my tutorial footage at 0:23 as being from Isotropix. It's a shame Clarissse was discontinued. There were truly unique tools in Clarisse that were great to use.
Didn't know much about Clarisse. Now I do! Great video as always!
Love it and still use it while I can personally. Got it in 2019 on Black Friday special for $600. I really hope they have something in the works and release something as awesome.
I heard that DNEG acquired Ziva VFX, and it's likely going to become an in-house tool. I'd like to see a video on that. Also, there's a new muscle simulation tool called AdonisFX released last week. I'd like to know your thoughts on that too.
USD environment was its last nail on the coffin.
Then why not open source it.
because they spent millions in R&D. Some of the developers left the company and joined studios in an r&d capacity, taking their IP knowledge with them. You can open source something that's still yours.
Also bcoz there are perpetual license still working
Unreal engine 5 may evolve to replace it
It seems like in a near future it will take clarisse job
I bought a indie license a couple years ago because of the promise of Angie. And we got an incomplete version of it, and then they closed with a lame email and no real explanation. Right when i was full fledge on learning it. Bummer.
Last year I bought a couple of Indie licenses and was hoping for Angie release. But instead we got this.
The biggest reason was mismanagement of the company and taking too long to support 3rd party renderers or coming out with Angie. Solaris took over along with some shifting the work to 2D/3d workflows in Nuke. Don't worry.. blender was never used as a replacement.
bro Dneg just bought Ziva from Unity, please make a vidoe about it
I uneducated guess is that the studio shifts to Houdini Solaris, Both SW are doing the same in terms of layout/scatter and rendering capacity.
its not gone its available for big studios....but not dead.
Whst is the differrence between todaya UE 5 and clarrise??
Pls reply
one is real-time game engine (but of course can do cinematic rendering), one is made for just offline rendering.
The software looks very capable , maybe they are evolving the software into something new, maybe AI is the reason , who knows. interesting video.
I think we will see Clarisse capabilities in Blackmagic Fusion
Why would you think that?
usd and unnreal nanite are the main reason ,As both can handel large sceane without any issue
Nooo not at all, nanite was and will forever be a kid to clarisse when it comes to handling large scenes. Yes Nanite is good but it can't handle a trillion polygons, let alone 100 billion poly. Clarisse was able to hundle even a hundred trillion polygons and still be smooth in the view port.
@@sibomanaambassadeur1596 yes, instancing the same number of assets, with strong scatter tools, sure. Instancing has been memory efficient and how you could build out large scenes going back the the '90s. If you have something you can instance you can create virtually unlimited copies with almost no memory impact. But that doesn't extend to interactive viewport display of said instances without "cheating" or using a more simple representation in most packages.
But nothing out there does it on Clarisse' level without having to drop to bounding boxes or really obvious culling. Clarisse' viewport performance was like nothing I've seen anywhere else. And it could do this on marginal hardware somehow. The best UE5 Nanite demos have been on ridiculous spec systems with 4090s, etc. It was insane how fast Clarisse was with scenes in the billions of polys (and still looking like billions of polys) when I saw it demo'd on a laptop with something like an 9xxM GTX.
@@sibomanaambassadeur1596 I pushed an R&D scene for production to 90 quadrillion prims with Clarisse to prove to my studio what one artist was capable of doing in a short timeframe, among other things.
Clarisse was hella special. Gonna miss it :(
1st comment. 😊
Ooh. Tsk. A-about that… The internet killed the world.
Paid software will eventually died, but open source software is eternal
wait till Blender takeover Houdini, but maybe never...
@@breakthefast7005 houdini will die eventually, sidefx got shut down or something and the codes will get buried along with it, blender is immortal even if the blender foundation decided to ceased it's development it's source code will remain for anyone to fork, and u can't monetize fork of blender because of open-source, that means the next incarnation of blender will remain free
@@zedeon6299 I really wonder what are your professional experiences as it feels like you have absolutely no clue what you are talking about.
@@ArtemGms it has nothing to do with professional use what the hell are you talking about lol, I can name many of dead paid program that professional use but not a single dead open source project
@@ArtemGms your phone os is open source, your browser is open source, your software for streaming is open source, your mom is open source I can name a few more
DNEG has negociated to get perpetual exploitation of the licences. more than half of the workers at Ziva are now hired by DNEG. Unity will keep the IP as it's still a value. To be short : Unity keeps the ownership and IP brand, while DNEG takes the risk to keep developing the software. in this route there is nothing written that will forbid DNEG to distribute the software. It's the Job of DNEG to show to Unity execs that this BRand can still exist and is very very usefull in the VFX industry. If they keep it for themselves alrght, but be sure to find something close to it in the coming years. We have ML deformer for UE5, for the moment we're fine.
But this video isn't about Ziva no?
just using discontinued tools to add ads on it lol......
stopping little timmy from saying "stopping little timmy from saying first"
Unreal bought them silently and then come nanite in UE5
I mean it's a pity those lame Marvel and Star Wars movies didn't get discontinued with it
most disintersting video ever... no solid reason given, ask atleast BlenderBob , he announced this thing 1 year before because he works in vfx industry for years...
the company itself didn't give any reasons and they just vanished, it was a strange case for this one, I hope they could clarify it one day
@@flixmlix8926 yup they need to clear the air, give us some clarity.
