The World's Hardest Hike: Tomaselli Lagazuoi
Vložit
- čas přidán 27. 07. 2022
- There's a good reason this is thought of as the world's hardest hike - this grueling Dolomites hike combines two already difficult routes into one incredibly challenging ascent. First, the hike starts by ascending thousands of feet through the Lagazuoi tunnels, a series of tunnels carved directly into the mountain that were used as buckers during WWI. Then, the route connects to the Tomaselli via ferrata, which is known as being the single most difficult via ferrata in the Dolomites, if not the entire world. But, reaching the summit of Punta Fanes Sud is only half the battle, as the via ferrata then continues back down the other side of the mountain, and the hike ends by navigating through an insanely steep scree field where anyone would be incredibly lucky NOT to fall.
So, after seeing this route, what do you think? Hardest hike in the world? If not, then tell us what is because we need to climb that one next :)
DISCLAIMER: We do not recommend attempting this hike, especially without the proper safety gear and equipment.

Ok, that is not only out of my comfort zone that is way into my terror zone. I found you something new today, in addition to physical toughness you have to be super mentally tough for these challenges. We all know Adam is a mountain goat, but Elise really showed us her stuff on this she killed it, so impressed. Stay safe guys.
Thank you so much for saying that! I've been working really hard on my climbing skills and fitness in the gym, and it felt great to have that translate to real climbs when I needed it. It sometimes took me a little while to get warmed up and confident with how simultaneously vertical and slick the rock was, but once I got used to it I was definitely all in!! ❤️ --E
@@LiveHardxLoveHard FYI, I completed Four Pass Loop. It was amazing.
@@papabeartooth3054 Congratulations! It must be so beautiful there right now. We should have mentioned this before, but did you by chance eat at Hickory House after to celebrate? It's the best barbecue in Aspen and maybe anywhere, and it's always our go-to after doing big hikes, bikes, or trail runs in the Aspen area!
@@LiveHardxLoveHard Sorry I didn't know that, bummer. Maybe next time. Also, I heard the Grizzly Bar in MT, may be out of business after the flood. The flowers were out in force, they were the highlight of the trip.
Not sure words can do this justice, but just want to say a huge 'thank you' on behalf of the viewers. It looks mad enough simply trying to climb this on its own... but to also handle the camera equipment and do the filming, and to edit and present the hike/climb as though we were all there with you. Wow! Thanks so much, and hope the recovery was good!
Thanks so much for saying that! You are totally right that the hardest part of this one was the filming -- especially for poor Adam who often had to go off cable in order to get shots of me climbing! It definitely presents a challenge in terrain like this, but was so worth the effort in order to capture and share this adventure. Really happy you enjoyed it!! ❤️
This is where you guys taught me "3 points of contact". My little mini scrambling is small but I am learning the right way. Thank you.
That's fantastic, Patrick. We started exactly the same way, just doing some small class 3 scrambles like Strawberry Peak and progressing from there. A year or two from now you won't even believe the things you'll be doing! ❤️
So funny. Strawberry peak is my next challenge. Been preparing with rock scrambles at the end of hikes like Stoddard Peak and Rocky Peak in Riverside
@@patrickleborio6305 Haha perfect!
Wow, the bottom of my feet got tingly at some points! Still don’t know how you manage to climb and film at the same time; beautiful footage and graceful incredible climbing. Thank you sooo much for taking us along. What an amazing mountain range!! Be safe!🏜🏜
Thanks very much, Mary! Yes the climbing and filming combo was definitely the hardest part of this one, especially for Adam who was constantly having to traverse off the via ferrata in order to get shots of me climbing. But looking back on the footage I'm so glad we took the time to get those shots because we really wanted to represent this incredible place well! ❤️
This was absolutely off the chart! I can't even imagine how gnarly this was in person. Both of you have a level of fitness that is flat out intense! Loved the new song and the suspense music!!
Thanks Todd! Hikes like this are really interesting, because it's a totally different kind of fitness than a cardio sufferfest. It's more like these brief bouts of intense all-over body effort followed by a rest to catch your breath, and then doing it over and over again. It's almost like doing a weights and bodyweight workout for multiple hours, so the next day your legs are less sore than after something like Rim to Rim, but instead you have a kind of all-over body soreness. In terms of holistic fitness, it's a great complement to the more purely cardio stuff. ❤️
@@LiveHardxLoveHard It's SO impressive, because there's that (what you just explained) AND it's combined with that fear/adrenaline/oh sh!t as you are hanging onto something vertical, with 3,000' of air below you. I could feel that in my arms and legs. GNARLY my friends, GNARLY!!!
@@austinado16 Haha ya that's very true -- and fear/adrenaline has def been known to cause over-gripping, which makes your hands and forearms pump out in a hurry!!
Wow!!!It looks super difficult with spectacular views. Bravo Adam and Elise!!! Glad you guys are back safe. Keep it up and thank you for inspiring us.
Thanks Samridhi! So glad you guys saw this one -- it's for sure one of our favorite adventures we've done in a long time, because of the difficulty and views and also the amazing history of those tunnels. What an amazing place!! ❤️
I’m honestly really happy that I found ur guy’s channel six months ago, you’ve inspired me to work out more, eat healthier foods, and just continue my little adventures as a mini hiker, again thank you guys haha 🙂✨
We really appreciate you telling us that -- the idea that we could inspire you to be healthier and adventure more is totally motivating for us, and makes us feel like the effort we put into the channel is genuinely worthwhile!! ❤️.
The evolution of your climbs since I first subscribed is just amazing 🔥
Thanks Jennifer! We've been working super hard in our training, and very glad to know that it's paying off! Hopefully the best is yet to come, because once we get trad-climbing certified (that may take another year or so) we'll be able to go to some places were virtually no one has ever been! ❤️
Climb hard climb hard climb harderrrrrr! Loved the video. Caught myself holding my breath a few times
Glad you enjoyed it! This whole trip is one we'll never forget, but the combination of Lagazuoi tunnels and then the Tomaselli climb was particularly impactful. We're seriously considering spending part of each year in Europe just because the climbing is SO freaking amazing! ❤️
Well done, what a beautiful hike, those tunnels were awesome, and the views were beautiful, thanks so much for sharing!!!
Thanks Larry -- stoked you liked the tunnels! We felt the same way. It was freaking incredible to be able to climb and experience a place where so much important war history happened, and the Italians have done a fantastic job preserving the tunnels and letting us see like how the soldiers slept, where they got water, etc. That part was like an intense climb and a cool historical experience all at once! ❤️
Second time watching this one! What a climb!! 😃 Thanks for taking us along and for always taking the time to respond to everyone in your comments so thoughtfully. I really love this channel and Elise’s songs!
Thanks very much, Christine! We're really happy you're liking the adventures and also the music -- we've been working very hard on that this year, so it's super nice to hear! It's awesome you watched this one a second time -- we've both found ourselves doing that as well, because this climb was just so epic and we were so happy and we don't want the memory of it to fade just yet! ❤️
Hi Elise and Adam, You both are brave and courageous for even attempting to hike Tomaselli Lagazuoi! This one definitely makes your top 10 video list and it is worthy of multiple views. Thanks for taking us along on your adventure.
Thanks so much -- that makes us really happy to hear! We're always worried when we do really hard climbs that the footage won't do justice to the reality, so it's always wonderful to hear that the epic nature of the experience came through on the video! ❤️
My cardiologist asked me "Why your blood pressure is abnormally high today? What's going on?".....Once He found out I just watched your video in the waiting room, he let go a big sigh of relief!
Haha that gave us a great laugh this morning -- thank you!! 🤣❤️
OMG...wow! That was the craziest hike ever. Nice job. Way to finish safe. You guys inspired my son and I to climb a mountain out at Yellowstone last week. Thank you!
Robert that is so awesome -- there's probably nothing you could tell us that would make us happier!!! What did you guys climb?!?
@@LiveHardxLoveHard Avalanche Peak. We didn't get to summit because I hiked too much the previous two days. But, we made 10k feet and made the tree line. It was spectacular. We will try again next time and prepare a bit more. The scree on the final ascent was a bit too sketchy for my rubber legs. I was worried more about the descent with tired legs. So, we made the wise decision to be safe and retreat.
@@RobertFairweatherMusic That was wise for sure. We've had more sketchy slips and falls on scree than on every other type of terrain combined, and coming down it is a freaking nightmare. Poles are a big help on scree, so def bring those next time if you didn't this time!
They just keep getting better and better! Well done. Thanks for sharing the videos.
Thanks so much, Marcie! It's really a pleasure to share this one, because even while we were on it we realized how utterly unique it was -- everything from those amazing WWI tunnels to the three thousand foot vertical drops was making us excited to share with you guys! ❤️
Love you!!! Le Dolomiti sono sempre dure! Come l'amore!!! Dolomites are alwais Hard! Like love!!!! ...and when you can not clip, you are in Dolomites!!!! Ciaoooo!!!
Haha thanks Stefano!! You are so right about the Dolomites -- always hard, and always beautiful, just like love!!! ❤️❤️
We did today 23/8/22 its true ferrata tomaselli is one of the hardest it needs physical strenght and courage to do...we did the tunnels 3 years ago via kaiserjager up to lagazuoi then down to the tunnel back at the parking...awesome guys..you did a great job👏👏👏
That's awesome -- congratulations! How cool that you have now done both of these as well! 💪❤️
@@LiveHardxLoveHard cheers ,we made it🥂🍻
Simply the bomb!! You are having a magnificent adventure and as always we are very thankful you are safe and sharing this with us! Hope you had some great pasta e vino to celebrate!!
We sure did, Dan! Nothing more fun than going to a good Italian restaurant and replacing lost glycogen with risotto and/or gnocchi along with a delicious chianti! We did it repeatedly!!! ❤️
Okay, the words that came out of my mouth as I watched you both approaching the summit, cannot be repeated here! Crazy awesome guys.... Will rewatch this one on the big screen tonight with my wife! Keep pushing my friends!
Paul so glad you saw this one and are re-watching with your wife! The views and the drop-offs were totally astonishing in person -- really hope they come through well on the big screen!!! Honestly, if you guys ever want an incredibly romantic vacation spot with lots of hiking and trail running, the Dolomites is your place!
It's so easy to take for granted how good a job you did of filming this one as the views and the perspective are amazing. Well done guys - it looks terrifying!
Thank you very much. We really appreciate you noticing the filming, which was by far the hardest part of this whole crazy adventure. Some of the ways that Adam had to contort his body -- and/or unclip from the cables and free solo to a good location -- in order to get the right angles were pretty nuts. But so worth the effort to be able to show you guys this incredible place!! ❤️
This is ridiculously amazing! I love watching these impossible, but yet possible hikes! Definitely inspiring 🙌
Thanks so much, Ana! That makes us really motivated to hear -- as long as you guys are stoked and inspired by watching these adventures, we're excited to keep filming them!! ❤️
This series of videos from the Dolomites are absolutely incredible. I'm adding it to my list of places to go for sure!
Greg that is exactly what we love to hear! You will not regret it, and in fact we would recommend that you move it to the very top of your list. There is only so much that we can capture with the cameras, but believe us when we say it is mind-blowing in person. We've hiked and climbed all over the world and this is probably our favorite place we've ever been -- it's the combination of spectacular scenery, incredible hiking trails, and great people. Just plan that trip, and thank us after!! ❤️
@@LiveHardxLoveHard Have you guys ever seen a UFO? ((Asking because you spend a ton of time in the mountains, so figured you may have seen some rare/interesting things))
@@MS-tc2fs Well we have definitely seen a few flying objects over the years that we at least could not identify. Generally we assume that they are some kind of military test aircraft (we saw one giant black wedge-shaped thing moving oddly slowly through a canyon once!), because there are a lot of military bases out here in the Southwest. So yeah, maybe someone else could identify that wedge thing but we definitely did NOT know what it was!
@@LiveHardxLoveHard nice! which canyon was the wedge sighted in?
I witnessed an anomalous craft (diamond shaped craft with lit panels covering the exterior, hovering over the treeline in a field at night, disappeared entirely after ~30 seconds) with my family 21 years ago. Been interested in the topic ever since, so it’s interesting to hear of other peoples’ experiences.
living for this content guys thank you again hope you're having/ have had the absolute best time!!!
Thanks very much, Carl! Really happy you're enjoying these adventures. We are definitely having an amazing time -- don't want to have too much recency bias because we've been blessed to do a lot of great adventures, but honestly we're pretty sure this is the most fun we've ever had on a trip. It's the fact that we can do such crazy intense climbing in the morning and afternoon, and then by that evening be back in a beautiful little village eating a delicious Italian meal -- just really the best of both worlds! ❤️
@@LiveHardxLoveHard sounds surreal and incredible, and as you say varied as well with the village vibe later on, perfect !
Not only are your videographic skills going to new levels, but Elise's climbing! Wow thanks for all the hard work!
Thanks so much for noticing, Eric! I've really been putting in my time in the climbing gym, and it's so nice to see it actually start to pay off on the mountain!. Of course we still hopefully have many years of practice and improvement in front of us, and looking forward to sharing all that with you as we gradually acquire new skills! ❤️ --E
That was crazy beautiful! What a day you had. So inspiring and definitely somewhere I would like to visit. As always thank you for sharing.
Yes Jason it was incredible! We of course made sure to wait for good weather for this one, because we weren't about to get caught up there in a thunderstorm. Super psyched you're wanting to visit -- we highly recommend moving it to the top of the list. Once you're there you'll see. It's just utterly amazing in person, and the opportunities for epic hikes are virtually endless! ❤️
Absolutely amazing hike and adventure. Those views were epic. Not to mention the colorful vivid landscape that made it seem unreal.
Lots of cool history adding the two together . Right up your guys alley.
Thanks very much -- glad you liked the history of it as well as the adventurousness! It really was pretty fascinating -- Adam got super into reading about the battle for the mountaintops between Italian and Austrian troops in WWI, which is how most of the via ferrata originally came to be!
What a mind blowing hike! Simply amazing! On my list of hikes to do before I die for sure. Thanks for documenting it.
That is fantastic to hear!!! We strongly recommend not only this hike, but just the Dolomites in general -- it completely blew us away, and we're intending to go back often until we can complete at least a few hundred of the thousand or so epic hikes they have there! ❤️
Fantastic, so impressive! Loved the dialog at 6:00..LOL! Almost seems like on “hikes” like this, taking a pair of rock shoes along for certain sections might be useful. Elise, very smart of you to forgo Adam’s lunch spots, for sure 😀. Love the way you are showing us these places and adventures, great angles on the filming. Keep up the fun, and adventure. You guys are a great team. 💪👏👍
Thanks much Paul, and that was absolutely something we considered when we were packing our gear for this trip. Ultimately, we decided not to bring the climbing shoes because we figured we could use the cables to assist us when necessary (as we did on this one when it was really vertical and slippery). However, once we acquire more trad climbing experience we will definitely be bringing our climbing shoes, gear, and a rope back to the Dolomites so that we can also do some of the incredible but sketchy climbs where there is no via ferrata available! ❤️
Just discovered your channel! Excellent video! Exciting hike and great mindset.
So happy you found us! Really glad you're checking out the Dolomites series too -- those climbs were such life highlights for us, just epic stuff over there. ❤
Wow... I've had some adventures, but you guys take the cake. Still need to tell you about Camelback and Mt. Sinai and one I call "Assault on Calvary"... Another time. The down is crazy, too bad you can't wing suit down. :)
Haha you are reading Adam's mind! He really wants to carry a paraglider up some of these things and paraglide down. I think he's crazy, but also have to admit it would be really cool. ❤️ --E
OMG!!!! You two just keep finding more challenging hikes, and this one is over the top! I'm just so afraid I'm going to read about you two on the 5 o'clock news, and it won't be good. I love your adventures and videos, but be careful!!!! 😬
Thanks Phyllis, and don't worry! We were really vigilant about clipping into the cables on the sketchy parts, so the farthest we would have fallen in those dicey places was about 15 feet. Of course that wouldn't be a fun fall and we might get pretty scraped up, but it wouldn't be 5 o'clock newsworthy. You know we have too many adventures still to do to go out like that!! ❤️
Well that has got to be THE best (if not scariest) honeymoon video I've ever seen! That whole range looks like a climber/hikers paradise. And did I finally detect a little "debris" on Elise's right knee? You guys are human after all!!! Can't wait to see how you top this! Also can't wait to hear your new song "We Be Climbin'." Thanks, and stay safe!
Haha thanks Tom, and you are right about the knees -- we both left some fairly substantial skin and blood tributes in the Dolomites! But obviously so worth it to get to climb these majestic peaks. Meanwhile, we're thinking the rap song may actually have to happen!! ❤️
Scree's the worse. Like marbles sometimes.
Glad you made it back safe and sound.
Awesome views! Amazing skill and endurance and teamwork.
Yes James! The scree was so much worse than even the most vertical rock. It didn't look that steep on camera but in real life it really was -- it took us forever to get down it and we were scared the whole time about slipping and sliding all the way down! But still, such a fun adventure overall and well worth the gnarly descent to get that incredible experience on the summit!! ❤️
@@LiveHardxLoveHard Those scree traverses is where I was most worried for you. I could tell how dangerous it was. I have descended scree piles, not nearly as steep, that had me worried for my life. No cable to break your fall in those situations. Glad you're OK.
PS. One vote here -- for more "Rapping from Adam." We be climbing ...
@@JamessTunes Haha Adam says it's going to happen, and when he puts his mind to something it usually does!
This was incredible. Not only you walked up the tunnel and the via ferrata... you also filmed it! Thank you for sharing
Thanks very much, Nathalie -- yes the filming was definitely the hardest part especially on the really crazy steep sections of the via ferrata. There were for sure a few curse words uttered as Adam was trying to contort his body in order to get the right angle for a shot, but in the end it was so worth it to capture the experience of this incredible place!! ❤️
@@LiveHardxLoveHard so worth it thanks for sharing! It makes me want to go back to the Dolomites. But for the hikes at the bottom of the mountain 😀
This is 100% on my must-do list for Italy now! Thank you for the awesome suggestion :)

WOW! i hope i can get over there someday... The Dolomite's look incredible... Nice ascent up the Tomaselli.
Thanks Mark -- yes we could not possibly recommend this area more highly. You will not regret a trip here, and our advice is to make it as long as possible. We had almost three weeks in the area, and it was not nearly enough to do all the amazing climbs we wanted to do. But we'll be back -- and you must definitely go! ❤️

Haha thanks so much -- that was actually a little mountain goat who came along the trail with us for about half a mile! Really happy you liked this one, and we're definitely starting to think along those same lines in terms of work and travel. We've really seriously started sketching out the financials for what it would look like if we were to early retire in the next 18 months and just adventure full time. Maybe we'll even do a video on the idea once we figure out a plan!! ❤️
Amazing! I don't think I could ever climb with you guys now, you have crossed my line of danger lol And a wholehearted yes on the "We Be Climbing" song as long Elise sings it.

Y’all are absolutely nuts - can’t even watch this!
Haha you gotta at least watch the first part -- the Lagazuoi tunnels up through a mountain are an amazing historical thing even before we get to the truly crazy climbing! ❤️
Quite an adventure! I always enjoy the scenery that you capture on video and this one was spectacular. What a beautiful day you had!
Thanks very much -- yes we were really lucky to get such great weather for this climb! One thing we noticed about the Dolomites is that when rain comes it is often later in the day, so the strategy of getting up before dawn for this climb really paid off! ❤️
The views were absolutely stunning! Definitely on my bucket list now. Wow! Great work guys!
So glad to hear that, Mike! You will for sure not regret taking a trip here, and please make it for at least a week longer than you think you'll need because there are SO many great hikes and climbs you won't want to miss!! ❤️
wow its breath taking i am heading of to Austria so looking forward few of those hikes amazing stuff guys
That is great to hear! We are just about to post another epic Austria hike today -- you will not regret doing these Austria adventures!! ❤
I will tell you what I think……..this is wonderful! Adam, as you said we are so proud of Elise. For a woman to do this is incredible. You have a wonderful partner. The views are so amazing. I love being on top of the mountains too, looking around and down is the best. We have tall mountains where I live in eastern Oregon too. Glad you are always safe. Don’t want to loose either of you. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks very much! Yes this one was definitely more challenging for me than for Adam, because of all the upper body strength required. But such a fun climb! We will hopefully be doing some Oregon climbing this summer on our way up to visit Adam's relatives in WA and climb Rainier. Def let us know if there's anything out there that we absolutely need to climb! ❤️ --E
When we go to Italy (at some point) we'll have to hit you up for the info on all of this. You inspire me to push into challenges beyond basic hikes. That SCENERY!!!
Yes Thomas, please do! Via ferrata tethers are really easy to use, and it's a kind of hiking that is just so incredibly rewarding in terms of the views and adventure. We'll be delighted to give you the details and also some beta on climbs you would like before you go. ❤️

Oh yes, please do it! It's almost a year ago now since we went, and both of us still remember it like it was yesterday. Going up and down those vertical faces with incredible views in every direction is something you will never forget. Just trust the iron and have the best day ever -- and please let us know afterwards how you liked it!! ❤️
I think the takeaway here is that all the “crazy stuff” you have done back in the USA has led you to this point and properly prepared you for success in The Dolomites. Well done!
That's well said, Bob, and definitely something we've been talking about on these harder Dolomites climbs. It's important to have not just a fitness base but also a technique base and, for lack of a better word, a vertigo-tolerance base for some of these really difficult climbs, and we've been working hard to acquire all three of those over the last few years. Hopefully this principle will transfer back the other way too, and the confidence gained from the Dolomites climbs will help once we start incorporating some trad climbing elements to even more difficult Sierra adventures! ❤️
You two are always amazing. Like it would have helped that at some points I put my hand out to “hold you”..nerve wrecking but just amazed to watch. YOU ROCK..💃🕺
Haha that is the sweetest thing ever! Well next time we're in a really dicey high-altitude predicament we will know that you're there to catch us, at least in spirit!! ❤️
You guys are unbelievable... So much fun as usual 🤗💪🏽
Thanks Edu -- glad you saw this one it is for sure one of our all-time favorites. What a climb!! ❤
I love your guys vids, but that was some next level climbing. Awesome and terrifying at the same time.
Yes! So happy you liked it!! We're always afraid the camera won't to justice to how it actually felt to be there, but awesome and terrifying pretty much sums it up!! ❤️
Imagine building and digging all these trenches and tunnels while wighted by all your military equipment, in the freezing cold and ice of winter, and under artillery fire.
Yes!! We were thinking about that off and on the whole trip -- just the incredible bravery and fortitude of the soldiers from that era. Not to mention they were also the ones who originally placed all the metal via ferrata lines up these crazy rock faces so they could climb up and down to strategic points (without harnesses, in many cases!).
That was something else! What a climb. I know you have the harness and all but the gradient on that mountain was insane. Love the music. Very well done. And don’t you just love the rocks in those mountains. They are interesting colour. This was very special and very exciting. Thank you for taking me to a place I will never have the chance to go. Too difficult and scary for my capabilities.
So glad we could take you along, Anna, and we absolutely did love the rocks! Adam especially loved not just the color but also the feel of them -- it's a really unique kind of rock, and he could not get enough of climbing on it and is already agitating for us to go back again next summer! ❤️
It is a special, unique composition of limestone. Limestone is a relatively soluble rock creating amazing peaks, faces, ridges, valleys and caves. Dolomites is chok full of these features. It is also a friable rock and can make climbs dicey or sketch as Elise puts it, 😁
"Gianni Costantini" to Mt. Moiazza Sud is often considered the most difficult ferrata in the Dolomites: it can take you even 12 hours to complete and has many points where cables are not present. An adventure, as many say. But of course "Tomaselli" has always been mythical as well.
Thank you -- someone else was telling us about Costantini this summer as well, so we will definitely have to do it next time we come! ❤️
Amazing and epic thanks for sharing. I will be interested to see what is up next once your back home after such an epic trip.
Thanks Andrew! We've def got some cool plans for once we get back, weather and wildfires willing!! ❤
And I had a hard time on the High Line trail in Glacier hahahaha. Terrified of heights. This looks terrifying but so epic! Have the best time.
Haha we love the High Line trail, Grace! We had an opportunity to trail run it about 5 years ago and still remember it vividly. But ya, if that one was scary for you then this one would for sure be over the top! ❤️
I vote yes for the song ! LOL. Thank you for yet another stunning and exhilarating video.
Haha yes Toni -- Adam says the song is gonna happen! 🤣🙈
Wow, you guys are amazing! Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Randy! We were so looking forward to sharing this one with you guys. We'd been planning it ever since we first planned our wedding/honeymoon three years ago, and then had to wait through two straight years of Covid. But this has most certainly been a honeymoon worth waiting for!! ❤️
Adam scared me and I wasn't there great shots of that drop.
Thanks John! Seriously psyched that the vertiginous shots worked out -- our greatest fear in filming is always that the camera won't do justice to what we were actually seeing or feeling, so it's really good to know you were feeling it!! ❤️
Thank you very much for taking us on your climb and hike I would definitely never ever make it to Italy so I would thank again for taking us there through your videos
That's great to hear, and so glad we could take you there. It's such a spectacular place, and it does make it even more fun for us knowing we're taking you guys along on especially the really crazy adventures!! ❤️
Thank you again for filming this! No way am I going to go here.... Yes I'm sure I could do it, but the exposure would make my legs just pump in fear. So here's to you for doing this and the Italians for putting those cables in place so that you can "class 5" climb it without all the hardware that would be necessary.
Seriously Gary -- we were so grateful to the people who put in the cables because they were very solid and safe yet also remarkably unobtrusive. You could look at the mountain from even a couple hundred yards away and never see them. What a gift! ❤️
Just watched this video. You guys are unstoppable. I cant imagine how scary that climb was in places. I was nervous just watching yee climb this one. Really really steep and so high. Yee are such an interesting couple, with amazing climbing skills, doing what yee love to do, and making captivating videos. Thank you for sharing your adventures
Thanks so much, Peter -- we really appreciate those kind sentiments. We're delighted you are enjoying the videos -- we're having a great time making them, and will keep on working on both our climbing and filming skills in order to hopefully keep having cooler and cooler adventures! ❤️
I did this hike a few weeks ago. Super difficult. Your video makes it look easier haha. I took the cable car to Lagazuoi while going up but hiked all the way down since the cable cars were closed by the time I returned on my way down. Also, at Lagazuoi there is a rifigio which is a great place to enjoy your well deserved meal !
Huge congrats, Ashish -- it's definitely a Dolomites rite of passage!! Yes we considered doing the cable car, but the allure of adding several thousand feet of vertical plus being out there all alone before the car started running won out. Did you find that the down climb was almost harder than the up? That crazy slippery scree ravine on the way down was totally nerve-wracking!! It would have been better with poles, but since we knew we wouldn't use poles on the via ferrata parts we didn't bring them. ❤️
Wow! That woman is amazingly strong. i would've never guessed it if I had not seen it! Excellent performance to both!
Thank you so much! I've really been working hard on my climbing skills and fitness in the gym -- so glad that it's now paying off when it matters! ❤️ --E
You guys are lean mean climbing machines.very exciting glorious Alpine endeavors.just bloody beautiful stuff.
Thanks David! So glad you liked this one -- it's definitely one of our all-time favorite climbs. Everything from the amazing tunnels to the crazy steep drops to the views -- just loved all of it!! ❤️
Your Channel is Grossly Underrated.
Thanks so much, Chris -- that's very kind of you to say!! ❤️
@@LiveHardxLoveHard I was thinking the same thing. There are girls who live in their car and have 100K subscribers. This is one of the best channels on CZcams and you have 28K. I guess viewing suffer fests is a niche market. Awesome video. We need Adam to rap to bring the channel to the next level!
love you adventures & the enthusiasm you both share - a very special relationship keep sharing your adventures
Thanks very much, Jim -- we're delighted you're enjoying the adventures and the vibe, and we will def keep sharing! In fact one day, hopefully not too long from now, we hope to early retire and adventure full time!! ❤️
Amazing video! We’ve been wanting to do the Tomaselli this year but ran out of time during our vacation 😅 I really appreciate all the good shots you made from the climb up, but also the way down. A lot of people don’t show too many details of the way down and we heard it’s not to be underestimated. Thanks for sharing this 🙂
Thanks Julia -- yes you are absolutely right. For us the way down was by far the scariest part. The way up is very physically challenging but quite safe. The way down is not physically demanding, but it is scary in places and you need to go carefully because a slip in the wrong spot could lead to a disastrously long slide. But overall, it's really a fantastic day out and you will for sure love it! ❤️
Thanks for taking me to the Dolomites and teaching new English words like grueling and dicey. Gonna be there in middle of September, inshallah.
Haha that is wonderful to hear -- and what a perfect time of year to visit!! We hope you will climb some of these via ferrata, and also make sure to hike the Seceda Ridgeline in Ortisei, which is absolutely beautiful. Excited to hear how you like it!! ❤️
Absolutely amazing climb! Spectacular views up there!
Thanks Miguel! OMG the views were just astonishing. We ended up staying on top for a pretty long time just to really soak it in with our eyes. It was a summit we will never, ever forget, that's for sure! ❤️
So cool to see the ferrata me and my gf did three of weeks ago! The galleria was crazy, we also did it uphill. Fascinating tunnels that were actually used by the Italiaan troops to get to a position overlooking the Austrians safely. Totally out of our world.
We didn’t do the second climb btw
Maurits that's awesome that you were just there -- and good for you guys for doing it the uphill way! Apparently about 90% of people take the cable car and then do Lagazuoi downhill, but it's so much cooler going up -- you really get a feel for what those soldiers lives must have been like in there. As you say, out of our world and really marvelous to experience!❤
WOW🫣Heart wrenching for me as you two climb your way up. I’d have to say this is the most amazing and beautiful place you have shared. (@ least for me)
Stay safe & healthy 💜
Thanks Debbie we're so happy to hear that!!!! We never know for sure if the camera will really convey the majesty of a really epic place, and we're super happy that it did. It was definitely one of our favorite places we've ever been -- right up there with Kilimanjaro, Cloudripper, and some of the other great Sierra climbs! ❤️
Damn. Some of those shots of Elise getting vertical looked so amazing. Such a cool video.
That's awesome to hear!!! It's really hard to capture verticality with these cameras, but we SO wanted to do it on this hike because intense verticality is Tomaselli's most defining feature. Really, really happy to hear that came through!! ❤️
Had time fast forward on the down i could look .You guys are crazy.lol be safe.
Haha the down is definitely the worst part, Jackie! But we took it super slow and careful, and even on that crazy scree we had a few slip and slides but no falls! ❤️
nice work! so glad you posted this, I'm in Brunico for World Champs next year in may and I'd looked for via ferrata hikes nearby but this didn't show - only an hour's drive away, great to know about! It's a gorgeous area
Oh heck yes -- what a perfect way to take a break from the hockey! May should be a beautiful time to go, and you will def remember this one for the rest of your life!! ❤️
In May is a little too soon for high altitude ferattas. It's going to be snow and ice complicating the route ten fold. Choose lower altitudes, for example Sci Club 18 in Faloria right next to Cortina d'Ampezzo. Feratta season is July, early October in Eastern Dolomites but snow can fall anytime after mid September and most rfugios are closing down around that time.
@@eugenpaval excellent advice, thank you :)
Brilliant climb. Thanks.
Thanks Francis! One of our all-time favorites for sure -- what a rush going up those faces on Tomaselli!! ❤️
the best video you've done so far.... the Dolomites rock ! ;-)
Thank you, that is great to hear! And totally agree about the Dolomites -- we never thought anywhere could be better than the Sierra for hiking and climbing adventures, but the Dolomites just might be. We will for sure be coming back again and again in the future, because there are literally hundreds of incredible trails here! ❤️
hates of to you guys.. such interesting , scary, slippery and adventurous and views are incredible
Thanks very much, KK -- this really was an incredible and exhilarating hike, beginning to end. It was so cool that we're actually looking forward to repeating it not for a video, but just for the awesome fun and challenge of it! ❤️
OMG! I almost fast forwarded a few times. Knowing that you posted this video, I assumed you made it. Phew! 😲
Haha when we were climbing up and I saw Adam's foot slip, I almost wanted to fast forward the climb myself! There were for sure a few scary and challenging moments, but we really took our time and made sure to stay safe (except for a few skinned knees, but you always have to make some sort of sacrifice to the trail gods for a hike like that!). ❤️
Yea, I have another suggestion for you guys: Cesare Piazetta in the south wall of Sella. You already did Brigata Tridentina (Pisciadu) in the same massif. Sella also has the Mesules which is absolutely insane in exposure.
Eugen thank you that is a wonderful suggestion, and we actually just did Piazetta Piz Boe and loved it! We'll put out the video for it in a couple of weeks. We did not have time to do Mesules on this trip, but will definitely do it on the next trip -- we love the Dolomites so much, and will for sure be coming back often! ❤️
Phenomenal, congratulations!!!
Thanks very much -- we felt so much joy and satisfaction doing this hike, very glad we could share it with you! ❤️
Omg, this is simply outstanding video friend. It looks so good but I would definitely never dare to try something similar.
Thanks so much -- really happy you liked it!! And no worries -- extreme heights are definitely not for everyone, but glad we can take you to some of these places via videos! ❤️
That was bonkers.... on that scree you just need to full send it down lol (I'd probably be tip toeing down too)
Haha yeah we're not above sending it on scree either (well Adam isn't, anyway), but if you'd seen this one in person you'd be like...no. The issue was extreme steepness with very little depth to the scree, so you couldn't "ski" it down because there was nothing to sink your foot into so you'd just slip, fall and then slide. It was nasty for sure!
You are such a crazy pair, but lovely pair 😘👌.. I just rush home when your posting is on so I watch on my big screen.. So incredible scenery.. Unique... Absolutely amazing.. Cheers to you 👍🤗🥂
Awesome Serge!!! So happy you saw this on the big screen -- that's perfect for a climb like this, and about as close as you can get to actually being there in person!! ❤️
@@LiveHardxLoveHard sure is Elise, was scared most of the video 🤢
Well, that left my palms a little sweaty! You guys are fearless with that exposure. I agree, I hate loose rock on the down.
OMG Aamon that loose gravelly stuff on a steep downslope is the worst!! It was pretty funny, because Adam was super calm and confident the whole hike until we hit that loose part, and then he was super freaked out. Probably it comes from being so big and tall -- it gives him more confidence when he's climbing, but more stress when descending on ice or gravel because he's got so much further to fall if he slips! ❤️
Oh guys, this was the third of your videos I broke out in sweat just watching you two - and I didn't miss that😅
Still I am happy that you are able to enjoy your honeymoon-journey in Europe so much 😊👍
Although I don't want to motivate you to try even more dangerous things, I have to repeat that I love what you're doing and that you developed so much over the last year, especially in your climbing-abilities!
Already looking forward to your next adventures - please take care and stay save!
PS: I dropped you something via your Blog-Page - if that one is still active 😊
Thanks so much, Andre! We're really happy you're enjoying the honeymoon adventures, and don't worry, we've got a couple coming up that are really fun but not too scary -- one of them will be us trying to hike all of Rome in a day! ❤️
OMG.!! Sick Vert.!!! You Kats are total Gangster.!!! Amazing Footage.!! Thanks for sharing.!
Yes Randy!!! It was vert like we have never experienced before --so glad it came through on camera because in person it was NUTS. Very glad you enjoyed!!! ❤️
That is not a hike, but more of a pure mountain climb! Wow that was incredible!
Haha ya it got SO vertical once we got to the Tomaselli VF! ❤️
You guys definitely have some balls of steel! At some point my legs got shaky just watching you! Lol it's nice that those ropes were bolted into the rocks but I think my mind would get The Best of Me and worry about them breaking loose! Amazing hike and I'm very proud that you were able to lead the hike along the way!
Thanks Kari, and you've definitely hit on the biggest mental hurdle for this kind of climb. It's really important to trust the cables, harness, and tethers or else you end up over-gripping your holds which wears your hands and forearms out really fast and makes a long climb impossible. But the way to get used to it is just to practice top-rope climbing in a gym, which is a nice safe and controlled environment, and then once you've done that enough it's a lot easier to trust gear outdoors in the wild. ❤️
@@LiveHardxLoveHard Thank you for that insight. It makes a lot of sense because I think I would have just been hanging on to the rope the entire time but it sounds like you definitely cannot do that and you have to really just climb on the rocks like you guys were doing.
@@kari4295 Yes we probably use the rocks more than most people, because ultimately we want to add actual rock climbing to our adventure repertoire and via ferratas are great practice for that. But whether you use primarily cable or rocks the main thing is to be relaxed and not over-grip (which is especially easy to do with the cable), and find good footholds to use your feet as much as possible.
@@LiveHardxLoveHard Makes sense! Thanks!!!
Great video. Thanks for sharing. May I ask what cams you use? Thank you. Best regards
Thanks Carsten! We use the GoPro 10 and the iPhone 13. We did a video a few months ago on how we shoot action shots if you want to see more detail on exactly how we use each of them for specific shots.
@@LiveHardxLoveHard Great, thanks for the reply. Will definitely take a look at your recommended video. All the best
very awesome thanks for taking us along, when you climb/scramble sometimes you forget about the elevation gain due to the adrenalin lol.
Shawn that is totally and completely true for us as well. On this one, we were so adrenalized and locked in that we also lost all track of time. When we finally got down and realized how many hours had passed we were kind of shocked. And only then did we even start to process how tired our bodies were. But like you say, during the climb and down climb the adrenaline just makes you not even notice! ❤️
Breathe taking hike, wow! Great video.
Thanks Dave! Breathtaking in more ways than one, too -- we were definitely sucking some wind on that one! But seriously, the vertical drops really did make for incredible views, because there was just nothing to block our sight lines. We literally reminded ourselves just to stop about every 15 minutes and appreciate the views, because it's not often in life you get a perspective like that! ❤️
to call this a hike is a very modest appraisal.
Haha fair point, Lothar. It's definitely at that nexus where hiking meets climbing! ❤️
Wow that tunnel section is really cool! Could you imaging living in those bunkers!? Those climbs! You guys are crazy 😂
Steven that's all we were thinking about the whole way up Lagazuoi! It was pretty crazy in there -- long quarter mile stretches just vertical and pitch dark -- and we were thinking about these guys just living in the void for maybe weeks at a time. The good thing was that it definitely made the hard parts of our day easier -- whenever something got really dicey, we were like, well, it's better than living in a tunnel while getting bombs dropped on you!
World Class hike, video, people!!! You're just totally unique, outstanding and lovable!!!
Thanks so much, Jean -- that's very kind of you to say! It truly is a world class hike. We've been fortunate to have adventures all over the world over the past decade, but the Dolomites are truly unique and a place we will for sure come back to repeatedly. Delighted that you liked the video!! ❤️
@@LiveHardxLoveHard Emphasis on lovable!
Very nice climb, probably my favorite so far.
Love watching you two, but Adam, better leave the singing to the misses.
Lol, awesome job.
Monty
Thanks so much, Monty -- delighted that you liked this one! We both feel the same -- it was one of our all-time favorite climbs. And yeah, Adam's rapping career might be over before it started 🤣
Whenever there is clipins or chains to hold onto usually my fear goes out the window. Brain empty.
Something about it, like if something goes wrong it was much more out of my control and that fact dulls my fear down to near zero.
But when my fate is basically ALL in my hands thats when I have fear, like I was more scared of those narrow footpaths that you showed in the video than the vertical climbs with the clipins.
Yes!!! I feel exactly the same way. I just decide to trust the cables and feel confident and good, but that slippery sliding gravel with long dropoffs is scary AF!! ❤️
