London Tramlink in Croydon

  • Today we are in Croydon, which is a major town in south London. Croydon operates a tram network, which links Wimbledon in the west with Beckenham, Elmers End, and New Addington in the east. The network only began operating fairly recently in 2000 and it uses two types of trams: 24 Flexity Swift CR4000 vehicles, built by Bombardier, and an additional 12 Stadler Variobahn vehicles, which are actually very similar to the ones used in Bergen, Norway.
    In the centre of Croydon, trams follow a loop, connecting George street with West Croydon and East Croydon railway stations. This film mostly follows this tram loop on a dismal and drizzly winter afternoon.
    Enjoy!

      Comrade Charlotte they had double decker trams!?!?!??!?!?!?! That’s fucking awesome, nowadays theres fucking health and safety u have to pay like 30 quid for an open bus which used to be free and used daily

    • @grassytramtracks
      @grassytramtracks Před rokem

      Articulated trams are far superior. Double decker models are largely a relic when trying to join different sections was more difficult. Articulated trams load and unload faster, don't have stairs to go up and down, and can carry more people (no standing on the top level), and are guided by the track anyway

    • @grassytramtracks
      @grassytramtracks Před rokem

      @@brokenbritain1930 it has nothing to do with health and safety (after all, we have double decker buses) and all to do with practicality, and the reason you have to pay more for open top buses is because they're only used for tourist buses. Why are they not used for regular bus runs? Because rain exists. The rain means that the bus will fill with water which will corrode the bus, and no one will want to ride on the top when it's cold or raining, which means that half the time no one will want to go up there
