A Simple Drill Press Table

  • How I made a simple table for my drill press. After looking at a lot of designs that seemed overly complicated for what I wanted, I came up with this. It uses components that I've seen in other plans. A fence that swings in and out on a pivot point, removable panels at the drill bit for when they get worn and a means to remove and install the table quickly.
This project was made with plywood cutoffs, solid wood scraps and hardware that was in my shop. I bought the toggle clamps at Harbor Freight.
My circle cutting jig was used to cut the arced slot for the fence hold down. There's a video showing how that jig was made: • A Circle Cutting Jig .

Kudos for not playing music during the non-narrative parts.

Dave, I am slow and a little lost. Could you make a video showing how you use that swinging fence? And why you don't need a fence that moves straight back and forth? Thank you, and thank you for your no nonsense videos!

Hey Dave, Some of us have eliminated the height adjustment handle and installed a counter-weight system. No trouble to just release the lock screw, lift or lower the table and re-tighten.

I'm very new to woodworking and just got a drill press earlier this week (So I have been watching a lot of DIYs for drill press tables etc). This is an awesome design. What type of situation would pivoting the fence be useful for; why would I want a curved channel in the table? Thanks for the info (^_^)

I only use the fence to maintain a consistent distance between the bit and edge of the piece when drilling multiple holes in line (e.g. shelf pin holes in a cabinet) . Then I only have to worry about spacing in one direction. Because the drill bit operates at one point the fence doesn't have to be parallel to it or the table. The curved channel just accommodates the locking knob and movement of the fence.

You can get toggle clamps a lot of places. Grainger, Amazon etc. I got these at Harbor Freight.
