This is part 1 of the pilot of a show that was to be aired on adult swim. Called "Welcome To Eltingville", the show pokes fun at the lifestyle of geeks and nerds. I hope you enjoy
@@redwaytoo Sad, yes. Nerd hobbies were still socially looked down upon, so you either had to hide it or risk getting made fun of. And the idea that anyone past 12 would spend ALL their time and money on it meant something was wrong with you. Angry? No, that’s just them.

My younger brother, my two cousins and I used to act like the Eltingville club when we were teenagers. We used to stay up all night playing video games, watch wrestling, eat pizza and drink Pepsi while arguing over who the best wrestler, tag team or faction is. Then we'd wrestle each other to see who would submit first. Of course my older cousin won against his younger brother (RIP) and my younger brother and I would always have our matches end in a draw. We had fun overall, but times have changed. My older cousin now has a family of his own after he lost his younger brother in 2015. As for my younger brother and I, we're doing just fine. I miss our youth.

Many thanks are owed to RebelTaxi/Pan Pizza. It's kinda refreshing to see a show about geeky stuff/geeks to that isn't all self-deprecation humor. These guys are pretty hostile and rough with eachother.
Though it had classic cartoon network qualities, I think this could've been MTVs flagship cartoon...we were robbed of a classic early 2000s era show, maybe an all-time top 10 adult animated series.
@@asfsd9980 I kind of think Penny proud and her friends were always pretty unlikable 😅 they sold each other out at the drop of a hat and no matter how many times they learned not to do that they did it again later

I'm a bit perplexed by how the comics portray Bill to be very overbearing and unlikable, but here that seems to apply more to Josh. I mean for one thing, Josh should've taken his frustration out on the fact he was scammed with this VHS Tape rather than the petty humiliation he faced because of it.
The problem with this series isn't the lack of cirsing but the licenses. If you've read the comics there are layers of layers of fan jokes. Things that the show cant reference because of license issues.
Agreed, I feel like they went with the Castor Oil refence, because it basically means vegetable oil, as well as with the rule Pete was laying down(rewording it, comic book: &don't use something only you would know about, pilot: &don't use something we all know about,)
In a hypothetical scenario (an extremely unlikely one at that) if this series ever gets picked up for say Netflix or is brought back at a later timeframe since we now live in a more "open minded" society where lovers of animation would get a kick out of a show like this I wonder if they were gonna do a 1:1 recreation of all the comic arcs they'd do that Chapter where the members of the Elltingville Club make an entire day out of watching a 24 hr Star Trek Marathon It gets real bad real fast because even for their universal love for Syfy they start getting burnt out real fast and it gets to the point where they raid their mom's medicine cabinet and start consuming mass quantities of strange prescription pills namely Valium, Xanex, Fentenol, and Caffeine Medication
This pilot was ahead of its time. Or it’s like the Simpsons with comic book guy and only with the internet these types of nerds really started getting noticed
I read the comics. Josh the scifi nerd ends up working at Marvel or DC, not because he loves the series but so he can make his fanfics canon. Bill the comic book nerd is a total sociopath ends up unemployed and a social pariah. As a teenager he attempted to kill his friends by setting fire to the comic book shop, and spread rumors to ensure his friends were single, socially inept, and therefore members of his precious club. Pete the horror geek ends up working for a low budge horror-exploitation studio where he has lots of sex with prospective actresses looking to make it big. he's a complete sleeze. Jerry, the D&D nerd ends up being the most well adjusted. after the group splits up after Bill burns down the comic book shop he ends up playing magic the gathering competitively, gets a girlfriend, and is happy, healthy, and fairly well off.
I think this was pitched too early, and was too accurate of a portrayal of shitnerds for the time. It would have gotten picked up in the 2010's I'm sure.
If the show was pitched nowadays it would have totally been accepted because of it's geek humor, plus Adult Swim could probably afford to produce episodes.
I was there when this first aired as well on Adult Swim 5 years ago. Watching it when I was 13 I couldn't stop laughing and now that I'm 18 and watching it, still can't stop laughing. Glad to see I haven't changed much lol
Nah we need more dogshit shows like Super Jail, Eric Andre and SquidBillies. Lets face it, Adult Swim only ever gave us a handful of good shows like Venture Bros and Metalocalypse, they only really made money off of airing Family Guy and Futurama reruns..
The greatest parody of fandom EVER. It is amazing how many fans there are that are deeply hurt and insulted by this. You would think geeks would be the last people on the planet without a sense of humor.....

it's adapted from "the eltingville comic book, science fiction, horror, fantasy and role-playing club" which was a recurring feature in dorkin's comic "dork!"
Explains how the comic series ends with Jerry being the only one to move on from the club and have a successful life in nerd culture while the other three wallow in their own self-induced misery.
It's a damn shame Eltingville never got picked up for syndication. I love slice-of-life comedies about abrasive weirdos bickering with one another on the margins of American society. Aside from this pilot's source material and "The Anime Club," I can't think of much else that uses a similar approach. Also, I'm surprised at how much more likable these versions of Jerry and Pete are. Pete in the comic is arguably the worst of the bunch next to Bill, but here he's just sort of gruff and sarcastic. Jerry is still the quiet, reserved member of the group so he's automatically the best.
Try out the anime Genshiken, it's pretty different in some ways (and set in Japan, with associated over-your-head references), but still great. AND was made into a whole series. Two, in fact, but it skipped a load of the books.
Yeah. To be fair, I actually love Seth McFarlane's shows, even if they can get a bit on one's nerves. We do need more intelligent humor though, I agree completely.
