Growing up as child during that time, I was engrossed in the dark stylized animated shows - from "Men In Black: The Series" to "Godzilla: The Series, to "Gargoyles" and the slightly darker "Batman Beyond". We need lost, unfinished, legendary works and unsolved crimes. We need to know there is a vault of thousands of hours of unreleased Prince recordings in a vault in Minnesota that we'll probably never hear. We need to find out what is in the JFK assassination archives and why Kurt Cobain killed himself. We need for our culture's unanswered questions to gnaw at us so that life is not all tied up in a bow and available to binge at a moment's notice. We will never know what happened to D.B. Cooper or who shot Biggie and Tupac. Be we can speculate, we can investigate, we can dream. We may never find Atlantis, but in our hearts, we want to believe it existed.

The potential is absolutely substantial for this as a full show. The overall subject matter and title of the series made it hard to promote on public cable back when this pilot was released. Nowadays, I personally think a show like this is perfect considering the "mature" orientation a lot of shows have no issues with doing today. If Netflix or another streaming service were to pick up on this almost 20-year old pilot and give it the proper show treatment it deserves, it could very well be a huge hit. Like I said, the potential for this to be a full show is absolute and would really fit well within the "modern" mature-orientated crowd. A man can only dream that such a thing will ever happen unfortunately...

I have to say... what initially brought me here was that I was looking for footage of an animated pilot to be shown briefly in a video I just put out covering a comic book series about a team of capybara bounty-hunters in space. I was looking through a playlist full of cartoon pilots that were never picked up, and this one stood out, becoming my favorite of the bunch. (Don't worry! You're listed in the end credits, and I even linked back to the video here.) Now, you have my attention! Because I found this fascinating, and I've lately been reviewing comic books. I'd be happy to buy this series and cover it sometime!

Huh, I wonder if I can do some things with this show. Oh I have so many ideas. So many beautiful ideas.
Rat Bastard: A wise-cracking, yet generally straightforward and overall very devoted guy who's learned through years of the abusive, downright shitty nature of his run down city that those on top are more privileged than those on the bottom. He routinely wakes up and has no idea why he does so, routinely contemplates suicide and is overall dismissive and closed off from everyone. Eventually, after a self sacrificing manuever, he eventually frees his city at the cost of his own life, which starting in season 4 he started to value it but then he lost almost everyone who made it worth living.
The Girl: A bored teenager who's constantly stuck playing support and seeing how she cannot do anything to get out of her situation, she instead tries to make the most of it and abandons her humanity in exchange for being treated like an object by everyone. Kind of likes Rat Bastard for dumping her and never really enjoying nor pursuing sex with her at the beginning, slowly grows over the course of the show into a stronger character who starts to be able to tell people about her boundaries and actually be able to enforce them. Dies in the beginning of season 4.
The Taxi Driver: A rather chill and dark humored guy who would much rather be dropping crap on others because of how crappy most everyone is to him. He likes Rat Bastard and he seems to get along well with the girl, but he's overall too distant from either one. He eventually learns to be more open with Rat and the Girl, however, it becomes too little too late as after he gets to the end of his character arc after driving kids from one place to another, from rich elites spoiled brats to rich elite kids who are sympathetic but powerless to do anything to kids who are fleeing from terrible family situations or from crime syndicates and gangs, to kids who have loving families who are breaking their backs to just barely feed their families and they decide to do something. Dies at the end of season four
The Police: The main chief dies at the middle of season four. He was a family man, taking care of an upper middle class family that was very well off from the rest of the city. He took his job very seriously and believed Rat Bastard to have not taken his job seriously enough and routinely chastises and dismisses him, which influences his most of his subordinates to do the same, even being a bit neglectful and hostile to Rat Bastard as his fellow cops he commands are for the most part, a bit too rowdy. There are 3 of them who aren't as combative though, a shy, nerdy 17 year old who does not seem to pick up on social cues well and is overall very heavily autistic coded, a young lady who's incredibly assertive, powerful, and constantly picks fights with the other cops, and finally, a big guy who's effectively a total pushover but he does get the job done and works behind everyone else's backs in order to give Rat Bastard the information, and tools he needs to get into places or to figure out the bad guy. These three do not die, but they come pretty close every once in a while. There is also 7 different bullies that are each thoroughly humbled, for now they're named Pride, Lust, Wrath, Gluttony, Greed, Envy and Sloth.
The Main villain: The big bad mostly irresponsible and corrupt government that brought them all here in the first place, and the one that is controlling and giving Rat Bastard all of the orders.
This current antagonist: Make her and her girlfriend two reoccurring antagonists that each become slowly redeemed over the series along with her joining a gang that goes against both the government and Rat Bastard until this group realizes they can team up with Rat Bastard. They ultimately team up to fight the government in the final fifth season of the show. They do not die in the end.
Every season is 25 episodes long.
The World: There will be more antagonists (most of whom are Anti-Villains), heroes (though most of them are anti-heroes), and the entire world will be painted in a "Everyone's pretty shitty because the world they live in is a pretty shitty world." Nobody here should be a straight up good person, and even if they are they're the exception, not the norm.
Rat Bastard should be among the exception and not the norm, however he is still going to keep his original attitude and cynical attitude. Most of thr characters here will be mostly touch and go with Rat Bastard, unless they're involved or want to get involved and pick a fight with the government, then they'll be out of the show as quickly as they get into it. Most characters do die in this show, and there must always be a death for every single episode. Something bad must always be happening on screen, if it isn't then that means that either someone is doing something good and that is noteworthy in a setting where everyone is a crappy person or they're in the upper class area, which even then is the upper class area, you can already tell that the real evil committed up there happens behind closed doors.
