- I recently found out about this Pilot Episode called "Welcome To Eltingville," a story about four older teens and their nerd culture club. And within that 22-minute pilot, Pete, the Secretary of Horror, instantly became one of my new fave characters.

Pete is great in the pilot. The comics...not so much lmao
That's a good change, if all four were insane and nasty basement dwellers it can potentially be annoying to watch, unless the writing is brilliant and funny enough you don't care if they're awful people.
If the series got picked up I would've had Pete and Jerry being the most level-headed nerds, sometimes they do have their fallacies and weaknesses, but for the most part they're both approachable guys, while Bill and Josh compete on who's the MOST unhinged weirdo in the plot lol
The same applies to all the characters in the comic (except Jerry)
Same all of them are assholes in the comics. The only exception is Jerry (the blonde with the green shirt) he’s the only one that gets some semblance of a happy ending, being a professional magic the gathering player and dating a hot cosplay girlfriend
Pretty much what I think could’ve been done is something like what they did to Bojack Horseman; start out as assholes and flesh out just fucked up some of the group is in their own toxic ways

I also hope that anime club gets the same treatment. The more attention it gets, the better and what could happen? Maybe anime club merch other then "this is fine dog" or some revival?

Honestly considering how Bill and Josh turned out, Pete and Jerry are the most tolerable.
(Pete is slowly becoming a favorite of mine, sucks he doesn't have much screen time)

Tbh, Josh turned out better than bill and Pete in my opinion.
Sure, he’s still an asshole with the most bogus opinions, but at least his job won’t land him a lawsuit (such as with Pete and his sexwork or Bill and his completely failed business)
Hell, I would even call him a sympathetic character

This also applied before Disney, as Boba did returned in the comics and books I believe
I found that they made Pete too cool in the pilot and not enough of a loser like in the comics. He looks, sounds, and almost acts like he'd bully the other boys around instead of hanging out with them. If it weren't for his hobbies and interests, I could see him being a metalhead, stoner, or a gearhead instead of a nerd.
I think it actually would have helped with the series if it had been picked up. The comics were great but its story works best written, the show would become too unlikeable if the boys were exactly as reprehensible. Making Pete and Jerry a bit more relaxed and only incidentally shitty when roped into the other guys stuff makes it so you have some people to actually root for and room to grow, while Josh and Jerry can still embody and compete for the true altnerd scumbag shit the original comic criticized.
1:58 "as do all sad boys, josh" meanwhile in the comic he straight up said "that's cause you're a fat geek, josh"
sad but funny that since this show never went beyond the pilot the amount of "moments" doesn't go beyond 3 minutes lol

Sadly, he also choose the wrong path at the end.
Since it's been already established that the series and the comics are two different timelines, I choose to believe that Pete it's a lot less fucked up in here, I can't help it, he's my favorite.
Same, actually I wish that in the pilot he turns decent....or at least not so f*cked up like in the epilogue...
I know he's not exactly a good person and i know how he is kn the comics and the epilogue... But him and Jerry are my favorites, and the most torelable to be honest
I tolerated Josh and Jerry towards the Epilogue tbh, even though Josh isn’t a good person either at least his job doesn’t actively harm or exploit people
And to think that Larc Spies was 15 when he voiced Pete DeNunzio.

Alrighty, here’s the deal, I don’t condone or promote any of Pete’s actions or ideologies. They’re gross and irredeemable. However, as long as the fact remains that he’s a fictional character, what’s the harm in indulging in the fact that I really really really like him?

This version is vastly different from the comic too. They all are. Jerry and Pete are definitely the better of the four. Hopefully, this version of Pete can grow up like comic Jerry.

To make matters worse, according to his creator, Evan Dorkin, he's a registered sex offender after the events of the comic and died of overdose. He probably just couldn't take the punishment anymore
