  • Hey guys! Today we will be looking at the engine sounds of cars included in Forza Motorsport and seeing how their sounds compare to Gran Turismo 7. We will also compare tracks as I tried to set each one in the same location and during the same time of day. All cars are 100% stock. 25 different cars are included here with timestamps down below. As a person who has heard every single one of these vehicles multiple times in person, I can say without a doubt the sounds itself are much better represented with Forza’s showcase even though majority of the sounds are over exaggerated, especially with exshaust notes.
Gran Turismo I’m not sure what exactly how they differ from Turn 10 in terms of recording set up, but the Dodge Viper GTS really stood out as appalling in terms of how they represented that vehicles sound. It sounded as if it was recorded from 200 foot away upwind. I have sneaking suspicion gran Turismo doesn’t even record majority of the actual vehicles like turn 10 studios does, this would explain the stark disparity and why almost nothing in GT sounds natural.
Fun fact the vehicles neither game actually records is the Aston martin Valkyrie, Enzo Ferrari.

Fun fact. Cars in GT7 are recorded on a dyno, scanned by hand every inch with hand-held lasers, and exported at 8k to future-proof them. This takes roughly 270 days PER CAR.
The interior cam always sounds slightly muffled in GT7 due to them recreating how it sounds in a helmet, using binaural audio.
In my opinion, ALL SOUNDS in FH4/FM7 were better than the new FM8. Side note, when you change exhaust in GT7 the sounds change along with the style of exhaust, 100% unique to each car. So yes, these stock exhausts in GT7 obviously are quiet. Put the racing exhaust on with headers and anti-lag (yes GT has that) and some sound absolutely nuts.

They all sound pretty similar to me if not better in gt7 because the sound of the increasing load being represented. As for the "muffled" sound, the original comment pretty much already summed that up. Forza uses a more exaggerated sound for stock road cars to make them artificially louder/ more exciting sounding. You can achieve a similar effect by changing the exhaust system on your car in GT. As you could probably tell especially on the older race cars, GT has loud cars but they don't make road cars louder than they are in stock form.

This comment section shows the biggest problem in gaming community, most people think loud = better, its clear that they have no clue how car sound recording works
anyone who has heard engine notes of these cars in real world videos or real life knows GT7 is way more realistic in terms of the camera distance from the car while FM is just faking the loudness like it's being recorded from a mobile phone, not to forget completely wrong engine sounds in most of the cars especially at higher RPMs

      @NukeMyHouse Před 4 měsíci +34

@@nicog4638 I haven't driven any of the cars in this specific video, but I have driven several supercars IRL which are in both games, and GT7 blows FM out of the water. Forza sounds are horribly overexaggerated, they have way too much mechanical noise and other crap masking the actual exhaust note of the car, and they're often so loud it sounds like the audio is peaking, like they were recorded at too high of a sensitivity. A lot of cars are nowhere near as violent sounding or as loud in stock form as FM pretends they are. The smoothness and "softness" of GT7's audio is wholly realistic for most of these cars.
Oh, and FM also does a horrible job depicting the shifts in automatic cars such as the Chiron, Demon, Supra etc; the shifting is slow and they sound almost like manuals instead of the near-instant shifts that GT7 accurately depicts.

gt7 sounds more realistic in terms of mixing, believe it or not. They add a lot of low frequencies so that the car can feel heavy like irl. Which means you gotta turn up your volume to really make it feel more realistic. Forza instead has a neutral mixing most times so everything feels like its syntetized and fake, literally when cruising around in forza it feels like ur driving a mosquito, while in gt7 it feels like an actual car. But yes ofc some car sounds might sound a bit dead compared to irl, even tho its way better than the annoying light sound of Forza. Forza focuses on first impact, making the game boring; while gt focuses on long term experience, making it more enjoyable to drive a car.

And this video never showed the interior sounds or from a audience point of view and Gran Turismo made that damn near perfect especially with good headphones. And something A LOT of people that obviously never has been close to these cars don't know in real life is the shifting from the gearbox and that's a huge factor for me and Forza absolutely failed at that where every single car shifts the exact same slow almost manual like speed. This is a part of where GT is leaps and bounds ahead of Forza. Like you can hear in this video a LFA has that kinda slowlike shift but then a more advanced modern DCT like in the GTR R35 has that awesome banging in gears and also they nailed the Porsche PDK perfectly.

Forza is great, but they add a wierd amplification to the sound that I can’t quite identify that makes it sound “synthetic”. Almost like they are giving it there own spin to the sound. I’ve driven some of them. The lambo and the 458 in forza are absolutely wrong, in particular the Ferrari has the wrong pitch, and the gearbox is nothing like that, it looks like an old f1 gearbox from the old 360 (I drove that too in real life). In gt7 the gearbox is quite wrong too for the 458, but the sound is nicer thus not perfect. In both games it looks they forgot that the 458 is a dual clutch transmission with practically seamless gear changes.

I barely even drive my car in 7 because the sound is so off and weird; it sounds like a blender (I do like the XK-R racecar though, that one sounds much better). FM4 does V8's in particular better than pretty much any other game in either series in my opinion. Forza - still using synthesized exhaust sounds where you can hear an echo towards the top end of the RPM. They also tend to crank the exhaust volume up higher to make it more pronounced, but less realistic. Third, how did they get the LFA engine note completely wrong? It doesn’t sound like an LFA, which you’d think would be an easy sound to acquire.
Gran Turismo - the use of synthesized sounds are present, but much less pronounced. They add in other sounds to help combat this issue, like when shifting. Notice how the Hellcat has a pronounced supercharger whine (same as the Ford GT, but much less pronounced like the real thing) but Forza does not. Why? Why doesn’t Forza add the coolest part of the Hellcat to the game?

If the camera were in the cabin or hood views, I'd agree, but from behind the car, you'd barely hear the supercharger at all--just glorious thick American V8 noises. Unfortunately, neither of these games capture it well. Also, can't speak for GT, but FM unfortunately fails to capture how powerful and deep they sound at idle (true for a lot of loud-from-factory cars).

Polyphony for a long time had a problem acknowledging the existence of a single clutch or manual and had some of the worst sounds imaginable. Nowadays, things have gotten so much better. The exhaust is spot on and shifting is just short of perfect. The manual physics without a wheel and shifter could use some work.

Both are a bit of a mixed bag, some cars have improved and some haven’t. GT7 has come a long way, Forza was always the leader previously. Its car to car, clearly some cars are still synthesized. One thing that hasn’t been properly represented is the true difference in sheer volume, everything it leveled out.
A GT3 cup car in real life is deafening and has a distinct vibratory harmonic that you feel in your head. A 7B7 can be heard on the other side of the track and completely wipes out the sound of everything around it.

The one gripe I have about Gran Turismo is that the shifting is super quick. In GT4 shifting was slower and more realistic, it was either 5 or 6 that made shifting almost instant since then. Gear changes simply don't sound very satisfying whatsoever.
It also kinda bothers me too how slow the actual gear shift animation is in Sport and 7. The driver looks like he's taking his sweet time to shift and it doesn't match everything else that's going on. Reminds me of that one bus driver video where he's being all dainty with his shifts.

Every GT7 player should experience a:
    1. full racing exhaust nsx ( I choose 2002 because you get it easy with a bit of money)
    2. Full Racing exhaust 964 911
    3. an 8k rpm R35

GT7 lacks that brief period of decreasing revolutions especially in manual gearbox cars. It's REV REV REV SHIFT REV REV REV whereas in FM the engine sounds more realistic it's REV REV REV CLUTCH SHIFT SMOOTH REV DECREASE REVS CLIMBING AGAIN

Specifically note the Aventador SV on Forza sounds too gritty, where it's clean and higher pitch on GT.
Having not heard these cars in person I can't say if either is objectively better but I much prefer the art direction of Forza in the engine audio department. It almost sounds like Forza is giving us the engine sounds with the hood up and mic inside the engine bay, where GT sounds more like recordings of the car from 20 feet away.

The shifting in fm is bad its way to slow and its almost the same for every car, gt7 has much better shifting and sound

Damn, I love seeing GT and Forza fanboys arguing in the comment section as if their lives depend on it
This "war" between GT and FM is pretty childish and silly

With road cars?? As far as I know there’s no road cars in ACC. Also gt7 doesn’t have the same gt3 cars as acc. It has gte and super gt cars not gt3 ones

Forza is much more syntetized, louder, but GT 7 has more precise sounds. Clear and pure engine sound second thing is when you put racing exhaust system on your cars sound is incredible. And this is not working in forza
