From the interview, I gather that the musician lets the poetry drive the performance. Tamil and Telugu industries produce too much crap and fewer poetic gems (directors push them). Kudos to the Malayalam directors. I have learned the language through their movie songs.
I am a malayali, but let me say, music has no language. BTW, he is not from Tamil Nadu, he is from Andhra. Music has no barriers sir. If we weigh all his songs put Malare Mounama or yaar yaar sivam in one scale and all his other songs in the other, Malare or yaar yaar sivam will have more weight.

@@Sabu7512 I know he is from Andra. Like Ilayaraja, he can speak all the South Indian languages. He works really well when he gets good lyrics... See he knows what is conveyed. He talks about.. Language does have a impact.... I am learning Malayalam.. To me, it is not just a closer sibling..but I love the sounds... I can convey the reason.s.. They use a lot of soft consonants. that ride on 'a'...na, nna, njaa, ma, ya... Tamil directors have a range of 'needs'. They can have demands to bring in songs not connected to the theme of the movie too. Malayalam movies mostly have thematic songs...that blend with the story line and scene (outdoors)
