With travel restrictions in place through January 2021 here in England, I focussed my attentions on a stretch of river close to home which I'd never seen before. This fishing film follows me through my mission to find some fish at the affectionally named Salmon Pastures stretch of the river Don in Sheffield, UK

The weather threw everything at this one but spring is just around the corner :)
With the river up like that it tells you were all the snags are on the river bed I make a note of any smooth bits as that's a clean bottom. Take a photo of the swim in that state and draw a circle around the smooth bits and then you will know were to cast next time you fish that swim in normal conditions. That's a specialmen barbel fishing tip?
Cracking film again. Just shows how hard natural waters are. Keep em coming.
Thanks for watching Terry mate!
Love these kind of sessions
Really enjoyed this mate brought back some memories trotting a float through 👌 can’t wait for matches to start again!
Lots of rubbish in the river and on the banks , nice to see grayling and trout coming out 👍
I love how chuffed you look catching the first grayling. I find I get that with river fishing, it's a bit more wild and unknown, although I love commercials, rivers give you that bit of a buzz that can't be beaten! Well done mate, lovely seeing Sheff on the vids as well 🙏👍
Cracking video Jamie , well done mate
Thanks Stephen mate!
Great video mate 👍
Loved it , thank you ! Wish I could escape work !
proper fishing. takes me back fishing small rivers before tackling the might River Trent lol
I like these simple fishing trips with little tackle ... and on the small river it can be very exciting. who needs a fly rod there?😄
Haha yes I hear that's a good way of catching them on that stretch :)
Anothe great vid. Interesting to see the river in flood from same spots you fished. Loving the music too, it’s a track we use on our holiday Vlogs 😂😂😂
Another good one Jamie. Tough going but at least you chose challenging venues not like some of the others on YT. Tough sessions but rewarded again by not blanking.
That’s my favorite way of fishing! Just a little bit of equipment, a rod and a net...
nice video Jamie ;)
lady of the stream, i love catching them on the upper severn
Great video as everJamie - my sort of fishing. It’s just a shame that so much litter & rubbish lines the banks!
That looked like great fun, well done bud, more of the same please, these little challenges are exellent viewing.
Take care stay safe, regards to Dad and T,
Keep it lit.👍 my friend.
Nice one Jamie. Is it just me, or does any one else think that like the crucian, there's something so deeply traditionally English about grayling? Just like yards, and pints. Just lovely little creatures. Nit sur the males enjoy being called the lady of the stream LOL.
Now then, am I going mad, or did I really glimpse a penguin by an English river?
As is the norm, I enjoyed every last minute, even with the building suspense over the water levels.
So glad you're keeping well and safe my friend. Keep up the good work. TTFN
That section is great for the fly..a lot of the big fish have been poached by the eastern europeans but its thick with grayling
That place should be called the grayling pastures lol 👍👍
Well done mate and that is the million dollar question where do them little grayling go when the river is up and moving at such speeds ?
I've fished here twice and it's a treat. Not being funny, but I wish you'd picked up the blue litter in that first swim - couldn't take my eyes off it.
Love these vids my kind o fishing. Is this a free stretch and where do you park for it .
Fished those pegs for years has a kid alot of the best swims have been messed up by works
Mantab yes keren ok 👍👍👍👍 good fishing
Jay go to meadowhall brige as u go in parking bay good samon
Buzzing, beats a gudgeon and a perch on Sunday. Not a touch from the barbel I don't think, seen some big trout up that part!
Well done Jamie got to admire your stubbornness not give up on catching a few fish and great enthusiasm on returning to same spot ,only time I've been down there was 1970 at salmon pastures college having just started work for Sheffield corporation waterworks and if you went down to rivers edge you'd probably needed a tetanus jab !!!LOL.
Haha thanks Albert, was it badly polluted back then mate?
@@CatchFishingChannel Yes definitely, the last spot you fished opposite the big wall just up from Washford Bridge there used to be a row of terraced housing .We used to go to woodburn playground and walk back to the wybourn where I live at 5hat time(early sixties) via the terraced housing and if it was hot we used to knock on one of doors and ask for a drink of cold water. The old lady used to give us a drink and warned us not to play down by 5he River as she said at night there was loads of big rats down there!! So I always remember her warning .
Just went carp fishing on my channel and got my first. Ever tried it?
That first peg you was in there the fast water is iv had barbel upto 7lb from that peg caster and hemp in a feeder
Let me know when you are going again and I'll come with you buddy. I'll watch you and buy exactly the same tackle as you, I've fished that stretch for 30 years, that stretch all the way to Rotherham and all the other way to Stocksbridge including Club Mill Rd and I've never caught a barbell or even seen one in real life! In 30 years and I only fish the Don, nowhere else! I fish the peg you mean regularly, where the little arches under the footpath are, opposite one up access and then the scaffolding yard, where that orange water comes in to the river from that pipe up in the wall on the other bank. There is a pipe half buried going out into the river from our bank, I normally start there 👍
@richardburns5925 iv caught 3 barbel on the don 2 in this spot on pastures and one up near tinsly not fished it in years though could be different with all the floods that have happened
@@broughton90 I've had everything but barbell, tomorrow I'll be at New York stadium catching roach, dace, perch, grayling, skimmers, small chub, all small stuff 3 to 4oz. And I'll be there at the weekend as well, there must be barbell in, there's everything else dude 👍
@@richardburns5925 theyr 100% there mate 3 caster on size 12 hook maggot feeder full of caster and hemp can't go wrong mate
@@broughton90 I'll try that dude, I've got a strong feeder rod and reel, Rotherham is where your coarse fish are now, it's all grayling at Sheffield👍
Never seen you fish a float!
Have you fished harthill res
At 13.20 you asked the question where would the fish have gone? At the rate that it was running through there I would have thought the north sea but I was wrong.
Hahaha it was a bit severe wasn't it Malc mate!
It's not moving as fast as that on the bottom at most 1/2 the speed as the surface
I have gone fishing on river with feeder setup, and put #16 hook, and not one fish bite. When hook got stuck in bottom debris, i tied #10 on same line, and catch 3 fish, so i wont be fishing with hooks under size 10 again.
Did you enjoy them
can we still fish in lockdown or this pre
Yes in England we've been able to fish in Lockdown mate 👍
